Citico Creek Campsite 9 Introduce
For local adventurers seeking a truly secluded and primitive camping experience within the 'camping near me' category, Citico Creek Campsite 9, located near Vonore, Tennessee, offers a unique opportunity to get away from it all. Based on recent customer reviews, this campsite is ideal for those who value solitude and direct access to nature, particularly water activities, but it requires campers to be fully self-sufficient due to the limited amenities. Potential visitors should be well-prepared for a remote setting with no cell service, restrooms, or trash disposal.
Situated near Vonore, TN 37885, USA, Citico Creek Campsite 9 is described as "awesome if you want to be away from it all" and "very secluded," indicating a remote environment far from the conveniences of developed campgrounds. The location along Citico Creek offers "easy water access" to "clean flowing water," making it appealing for swimming and water lounging, as noted by day visitors. A unique feature is a "small rock island across from camp site an rope swing," suggesting opportunities for water-based recreation. The campsite itself is "nesselde in the Forest with level lot," implying a relatively comfortable and shaded area for setting up camp. The surrounding environment is characterized by backroads that "go on forever," emphasizing the remote nature of the location. One reviewer noted seeing only four vehicles pass during an overnight stay, highlighting the low traffic volume. The road leading to the campsite is primarily gravel, and drivers should be prepared to "drive slow and watch for pot holes and on coming traffic as roadway is narrow at times." This secluded, forested environment with direct creek access offers a genuine escape into nature, but it comes with the responsibility of self-sufficiency and awareness of the potentially challenging access roads.
The services at Citico Creek Campsite 9 are extremely limited, emphasizing its primitive nature. A significant point highlighted in the reviews is the absence of essential amenities: "NO TRASH BARRELS and NO BATHROOM." Campers are explicitly instructed to "Take your yard cleaning hardware and trash bags as previous visitors seem to leave a mess, burnt wires, cans, cigarette butts and trash." This underscores the importance of a strong Leave No Trace ethic for anyone choosing to camp here. There are "two-burning pits at this (x2 camp) site," indicating designated areas for campfires, but campers must "take your own fire burning wood." There is "no cell service," which means campers should not rely on mobile communication and should bring any necessary navigation tools and emergency preparedness supplies. The remoteness of the location also means there are "no stores, stations or shops near by," reinforcing the need to bring all essential supplies, including a "full tank of gas." Despite the lack of formal services, the easy water access to Citico Creek is a significant natural amenity. The availability of parking space suggests that day visitors also frequent the area for swimming and water lounging. For anglers, the creek is noted as a good spot for fishing in the evening (if permitted), representing a recreational service provided by the natural environment. The low traffic volume contributes to the sense of seclusion and peace.
The key features of Citico Creek Campsite 9 revolve around its natural setting and the opportunities for a primitive, self-reliant camping experience. The "easy water access (clean flowing water)" is a major draw, offering opportunities for swimming, wading, and potentially fishing. The presence of a "small rock island across from camp site an rope swing" adds a unique recreational element. The campsite being "nesselde in the Forest with level lot" suggests a comfortable and shaded area for setting up tents. The availability of "two-burning pits" allows for campfires (with self-supplied wood), enhancing the traditional camping experience. The "low traffic volume" and the overall "secluded" nature of the campsite are significant features for those seeking peace and quiet away from crowded areas. The absence of fees ("no fee") makes it an attractive budget-friendly option, but this also likely contributes to the lack of maintained amenities. The observation that "day- visitor's loved this spot for swimming and water lounging" indicates that the creek is a popular natural feature. The potential for evening fishing (if permitted) adds another dimension for outdoor enthusiasts. However, the crucial features also include the "no cell service," "no stores, stations or shops near by," "no trash barrels," and "no bathroom," all of which necessitate careful planning and self-sufficiency. The gravel road access with potential potholes and narrow sections is another important logistical feature to consider.
The reviews explicitly state that there is "no fee" to camp at Citico Creek Campsite 9. This lack of a camping fee makes it a potentially attractive option for budget-conscious local users. However, it also likely explains the absence of maintained amenities like trash barrels and restrooms. Since there is no formal campground management mentioned in the reviews, it is unlikely that there are specific promotional offers. The primary "promotion" is the free access to a secluded natural environment with creek access. Local users should be aware that camping here comes with the responsibility of self-sufficiency and adhering to Leave No Trace principles. The lack of fees also means that services like trash disposal and restroom facilities are not provided, and campers are solely responsible for managing their waste and sanitation. While there might not be monetary promotions, the opportunity to experience a secluded natural setting with water access at no cost could be considered a significant benefit for those seeking a primitive camping experience.
For local residents seeking a truly secluded and primitive camping experience within the 'camping near me' category, Citico Creek Campsite 9 near Vonore, TN, offers a unique opportunity for a free getaway in a natural setting with easy access to clean flowing water, a small rock island, and a rope swing. However, potential campers must be fully prepared for a self-sufficient experience, as there are no restrooms or trash barrels, and no cell service or nearby stores. The remote location requires a full tank of gas and careful driving on gravel roads with potential hazards. While day visitors enjoy the creek for swimming, overnight campers can appreciate the low traffic and secluded atmosphere, with the possibility of evening fishing. Remember to bring bug spray, your own firewood, and trash bags, and be committed to leaving the area in better shape than you found it. Citico Creek Campsite 9 is best suited for experienced primitive campers who value solitude and are fully prepared for a no-amenities environment.

Awesome campsite if you want to be away from it all. Very secluded and no phone service so bring everything you need and a full tank of gas because those backroads go on forever if deciding to pass this site and come out the other end. Stayed the night and only seen four vehicles pass.

Aug 11, 2021 · A. CrossSpacious campground with two firepits and great access to the river. Very nice spot for a quiet camping trip. There are 14 different Citico Creek campsite along Citico Road and they are first come first serve. We arrived around 3 pm and found the first few we passed were taken. So arrive at a reasonable time for a weekend trip or a potentially busy holiday. Be prepared to pack out your trash and bring your own firewood.
