Highland State Recreation Area Group Camping Area Reviews
Posting review based on my hiking experience:The hiking trail was very well maintained with trail markers and maps regularly. There are 3 loops : Red (around 2 mi) , Blue & Green (around 5.5 mi).I would rate this as a easy trail for hiking. It is pretty flat with slopes here and there, which aren't too crazy to climb. The only bad experience that I had was that there was horse poop through at many spots where the horse trails and hiking trails are common. So, you should watch your steps. There weren't too many bug/mosquitoes that's a good thing. On a whole, I loved the hike. Would strongly recommend this park.
Aug 03, 2020 · Sai Prudhvi NagireddyI like this place more for the ample bathrooms via vault toilets, but for the cross country ski trail head that is here. Some nice wide multi use trails and red, green and blue arrows marking the 3 trails.
Jan 16, 2023 · Greg TracyWhile I have not camped here in a group, I regularly enter the hiking trails at Highland State Recreation Area via the group camp area. It is one of the nicest group camp sites I have seen at a park in southeast Michigan. It has plenty of space so that even very large groups can spread out and not feel that they are on top of one another. I've seen some corporate groups (like an outdoor recreation retailer) do events there for their employees, as well as your typical scouting and other recreational groups.
Dec 11, 2019 · Ryan Michael DinkgraveGreat place to camp and head out on a Chief Pontiac Trail backpacking hike.
May 16, 2021 · Michael SchultzNice youth organizational campground. Sites are reserved first come, first serve. Nice swimming area at temple lake with a pavillion you can rent for family picnics. Lots of hiking and horse trails. Most of the land was once owned by Edsel Ford.
