Hiker's Camp

Cannon Beach Trail, Seaside, OR 97138, USA

4.0
Nice place to go see on Tillamook Head. I came from the further entrance by Seaside. There is a shorter way up from Indian Beach. Either way you come up, you will be climbing uphill, but it's not that bad. If you are hiking through and needing a place to camp, plenty of places to setup a tent. Also, they have shelters and a covered picnic table area. They have a bathroom up there also, that is maintained and full of TP and appears clean for being way out there, but does have a horrible smell.Continue 1/8 of a mile West to what should be an amazing view. Unfortunately for me, it was cloudy. - Aaron Johnson

Hiker's Camp Introduce

For those seeking an immersive outdoor experience and searching for "camping near me" with a touch of adventure, Hiker's Camp, located along the scenic Cannon Beach Trail in Seaside, Oregon, offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature. Situated at 97138, USA, this campground distinguishes itself as a hike-in destination, promising a more secluded and wilderness-oriented camping experience compared to traditional drive-up campgrounds. Nestled along the iconic Tillamook Head, Hiker's Camp provides a basecamp for exploring the rugged beauty of the Oregon coast.

Based on available customer reviews, Hiker's Camp appears to be a favored spot for those venturing along the Cannon Beach Trail. The primary access to the campground is via hiking, either from the Seaside entrance or a shorter route from Indian Beach. Regardless of the chosen path, visitors should anticipate an uphill trek to reach the camping area. However, reviewers suggest that the climb is manageable and well worth the effort for the experience that awaits.

One of the notable features of Hiker's Camp is the provision of established camping infrastructure within a natural setting. For those preferring tent camping, the reviews indicate that there are "plenty of places to setup a tent," suggesting designated or at least suitable areas for pitching shelters. Additionally, the presence of "shelters" offers an alternative to traditional tents, potentially providing more robust protection from the elements, a welcome feature given the often unpredictable coastal weather of Oregon. A "covered picnic table area" is also mentioned, offering a communal space for meal preparation and enjoying the outdoors, regardless of light rain or strong sun.

The availability of a maintained bathroom facility is another significant aspect of Hiker's Camp, especially considering its remote, hike-in nature. Reviewers note that the bathroom is generally kept stocked with toilet paper and appears clean for its location "way out there." However, one reviewer does mention a "horrible smell," which is not uncommon in backcountry facilities and something potential visitors should be aware of. The presence of any restroom facility in a hike-in campground is a valuable amenity, contributing to a more comfortable and sustainable camping experience.

A key attraction for visitors to Hiker's Camp is its proximity to breathtaking views. One reviewer specifically mentions continuing "1/8 of a mile West" from the campground to reach a viewpoint that "should be an amazing view." Unfortunately, this particular visitor experienced cloudy conditions, highlighting the importance of weather in fully appreciating the coastal scenery. Nevertheless, the potential for stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean, the rugged coastline, and possibly even Tillamook Rock Lighthouse makes Hiker's Camp an appealing destination for photographers and nature enthusiasts.

One enthusiastic reviewer strongly recommends a multi-night stay, suggesting that to "REALLY SEE ALL OF CLARKS MOUNTAIN..?" one should "HIKE IN FROM SEASIDE, CAMP OVER NIGHT IN BIVOUACK FOR AT LEAST 2 NIGHTS!!!" This implies that the area surrounding Hiker's Camp, likely encompassing Tillamook Head and Clarks Mountain (a historical name for part of Tillamook Head), offers extensive hiking trails and natural beauty that warrants more than just a brief visit. This recommendation speaks to the immersive experience and the opportunities for exploration available to those who choose to camp overnight at Hiker's Camp.

Given its nature as a hike-in campground, potential visitors should be well-prepared for backcountry camping. This typically includes carrying all necessary gear, such as tents or bivouac sacks, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, food, water (or a means to purify water), navigation tools (maps, compass, or GPS), appropriate clothing for varying weather conditions, and a first-aid kit. Leave No Trace principles are crucial in such environments, requiring campers to pack out all trash, minimize their impact on the natural surroundings, and respect wildlife.

While specific services and features beyond the shelters, covered picnic table, and bathroom are not detailed in the provided information, hike-in campgrounds often prioritizeLeave No Trace ethics and minimal development to preserve the natural character of the area. It is unlikely that Hiker's Camp offers amenities such as electrical hookups, water spigots at individual campsites, or dump stations, which are more common in drive-up campgrounds catering to RVs. The focus here is on a more self-sufficient and wilderness-oriented camping experience.

Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the very nature of Hiker's Camp – its location on a scenic hiking trail, its access to coastal views, and its provision of basic camping infrastructure in a wilderness setting – serves as its primary appeal. For local users searching for "camping near me" who are drawn to hiking and a more rustic camping experience, Hiker's Camp naturally promotes itself through its unique location and the opportunities it offers for outdoor adventure.

To obtain the most up-to-date information about Hiker's Camp, including any fees, permit requirements, regulations, or specific details about the shelters and camping areas, it is highly recommended to consult the relevant managing authority, such as Oregon State Parks or the local parks and recreation department. They can provide essential information regarding reservations (if required), trail conditions, safety guidelines, and any current advisories for the Tillamook Head area.

In conclusion, Hiker's Camp along the Cannon Beach Trail near Seaside, Oregon, offers a distinctive "camping near me" experience for those willing to embark on a hike to reach their campsite. With tent camping areas, shelters, a covered picnic table, and a maintained bathroom, it provides essential amenities within a beautiful and rugged coastal environment. Its proximity to scenic viewpoints and extensive hiking opportunities, particularly around Tillamook Head, makes it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a more immersive and adventurous camping trip. Remember to be well-prepared for a hike-in camping experience and to check with the managing authorities for the latest information and regulations.
