Hilltop Campground Introduce
Are you a local camper in search of a peaceful and roomy "camping near me" option in the Cameron, Montana area? Hilltop Campground, located in Cameron, MT 59720, USA, presents itself as a noteworthy choice, particularly for those seeking a quieter and more spacious alternative to the campgrounds directly situated on Cliff and Wade Lakes. While not immediately on the shores of these popular lakes, Hilltop Campground offers its own distinct advantages, making it a valuable option for local outdoor enthusiasts.
Embrace the Tranquil and Spacious Environment: Hilltop Campground distinguishes itself by providing a "much more quiet and spacious" camping experience compared to the often busier campgrounds at Wade and Cliff Lakes. This serene atmosphere allows campers to truly relax and enjoy the natural surroundings without the potential congestion and noise associated with more centrally located campgrounds. The spaciousness of the campsites likely provides greater privacy and room to spread out, enhancing the overall comfort of your stay. Imagine enjoying a peaceful evening around the campfire, undisturbed by the close proximity of neighboring campers. For local users who prioritize tranquility and ample space, Hilltop Campground offers a welcome retreat.
The campground's location at a slight remove from the immediate lakeshore also contributes to its quieter ambiance. While the primary draw of the area might be Cliff and Wade Lakes, Hilltop Campground offers a peaceful haven just a "short hike or drive" away. This proximity allows campers to easily access the lakes for fishing, boating, and other recreational activities while returning to a more secluded and calm campsite. The surrounding environment likely features the natural beauty of the Montana landscape, potentially including forests, meadows, and scenic views of the nearby mountains.
Potential Services and Amenities: Specific details about the services and amenities at Hilltop Campground are not extensively outlined in the provided reviews. However, based on the context of campgrounds in similar natural areas, we can infer some likely offerings. These typically include designated campsites suitable for tents and possibly RVs (though this is not explicitly confirmed), basic restroom facilities (which could range from vault toilets to flush toilets), and provisions for campfires, such as fire rings or communal fire pits. Given the mention of quiet and spacious sites, it's reasonable to assume that the layout of the campground is designed to maximize the natural setting and provide a comfortable camping experience. To obtain precise information about available amenities, such as water sources, trash disposal, and any specific regulations, contacting the campground directly or checking official listings would be advisable.
A Strategic Overflow Option: One reviewer astutely suggests using Hilltop Campground as an "overflow campground if you can't find a site at Wade or Cliff." This highlights a practical benefit for local campers who might find the popular lakeside campgrounds fully occupied, especially during peak season. Hilltop Campground offers a convenient alternative, allowing you to establish a basecamp and still enjoy the nearby lakes. The reviewer even suggests the possibility of moving camp to a lakeside site the following morning if one becomes available, indicating the proximity and ease of transitioning between these campgrounds.
Access to Cliff and Wade Lakes: While Hilltop Campground isn't directly on Cliff or Wade Lake, its location offers convenient access to both. The reviews mention that it is only a "short hike or drive" to either lake. This means that campers at Hilltop can easily enjoy the recreational opportunities these lakes provide, such as fishing, boating, swimming, and scenic enjoyment, without having to stay in the potentially more crowded lakeside campgrounds. This balance of accessibility and tranquility can be a significant advantage for local users who want to experience the lakes but prefer a quieter camping environment.
One reviewer noted that "Lake was very busy and couldn't fish most of the time but the camp ground was very quite and spaced out." This further emphasizes the contrast between the potentially crowded lake areas and the peaceful atmosphere of Hilltop Campground. For those whose primary goal is a serene camping experience, with the option to visit the lakes as desired, Hilltop Campground appears to be an excellent choice.
Why Choose Hilltop Campground for Your Local Camping Trip?
- Quiet and Peaceful Atmosphere: Enjoy a tranquil camping experience away from potential lakeside crowds.
- Spacious Campsites: Benefit from larger lots offering more room and privacy.
- Convenient Access to Cliff and Wade Lakes: A short hike or drive allows you to easily enjoy the lakes' recreational activities.
- Strategic Overflow Option: A reliable alternative if lakeside campgrounds are full.
- Potential for Scenic Views: Located in the beautiful Montana landscape near popular lakes.
Recommendations for Local Users: If you're seeking a "camping near me" option that prioritizes peace and space while still providing easy access to the attractions of Cliff and Wade Lakes, Hilltop Campground is worth considering. Its quieter environment and larger campsites can offer a more relaxing experience. For local campers who value tranquility over immediate lakeside access, this campground presents a compelling alternative. When planning your trip, consider the proximity to the lakes and the ease of accessing them for day trips or activities. To obtain specific information about amenities, reservation policies, and any other details, contacting the relevant authorities or checking local camping resources would be beneficial.
Getting More Information: As direct contact information for Hilltop Campground is not provided in the reviews, local users interested in learning more should consult local camping guides, online mapping services that might list campgrounds in the Cameron, MT area, or contact the Madison County tourism office for information on campgrounds in the vicinity of Cliff and Wade Lakes. Hilltop Campground Reviews
This is a great campground. My only strike against it (4/5) is that you come here to go to the lakes (Cliff/Wade) and this campground isn't right on either. But it is much more quiet and spacious than Wade or Cliff. And it is only a short hike or drive to either lake.If all else fails, use this campground as an overflow campground if you can't find a site at Wade or Cliff, and then move camp the next morning when someone leaves!

Jul 01, 2021 · Becky GaddisNice campground, clean with small clean pit toilets. There is running water at the campground. Beautiful lakes, probably need a kayak or raft to fully enjoy the water. Water is blue like a tropical island. They ask 15 dollars a night.
Jun 22, 2021 · PaulLovely campground. Spots are private. Not far from wade and cliff lakes. We had a nice time and a deer came through our site!
