Historic Hune Covered Bridge Campground Introduce
Looking for a "camping near me" experience that combines natural beauty with a touch of history? The Historic Hune Covered Bridge Campground, located at Cullen Rd, Wingett Run, OH 45789, USA, offers a unique camping destination steeped in local charm. You can contact them at (740) 373-9055 or +1 740-373-9055 to plan your visit. This campground's prime feature is its proximity to the historic Hune Covered Bridge, a local landmark that adds a picturesque and historical dimension to your camping experience. Situated in the scenic Wingett Run area of Ohio, this campground provides an opportunity to connect with nature while appreciating a piece of the past.
The environment surrounding the Historic Hune Covered Bridge Campground is undoubtedly a major attraction. The presence of the amazing covered bridge offers a beautiful and unique backdrop for your camping adventure. The location alongside a river suggests opportunities for water-related activities and the soothing sounds of flowing water. The area is described as a beautiful location to visit, implying a scenic setting with natural appeal. However, it's important to note that the tranquility of the environment may vary depending on the time of the week. Reviews indicate that while the campground is quite during the week, weekends can see an increase in local activity, with the area being used as a parking lot and drop-off point for river access. This is a crucial consideration for those seeking a peaceful retreat throughout their stay. Despite this weekend activity, the fundamental beauty of the location and the presence of the historic covered bridge contribute significantly to the campground's environmental appeal.
Services at the Historic Hune Covered Bridge Campground appear to be somewhat basic, focusing on providing campsites within a scenic environment. The availability of a "big site next to river" suggests that there are different types of campsites to accommodate various camping setups, possibly including larger sites suitable for campers. The weekend parking and river access activity by locals indicate that the campground serves not only as an overnight stay for campers but also as a point of access to the river for recreational purposes. While not explicitly stated, one can typically expect essential campground services such as designated campsites, potential restroom facilities (though the type and condition are not detailed in the reviews), and possibly water access points. However, the negative experience of a camper returning to find a non-camper parked in their site's driveway highlights a potential lack of clear demarcation or enforcement of parking regulations for campsite users during busy times. It is recommended to inquire specifically about available services, including restroom facilities, water hookups, waste disposal, and parking policies, when making a reservation.
The features of the Historic Hune Covered Bridge Campground are centered around its natural setting and the iconic covered bridge. The proximity to the river is a significant feature, offering potential for fishing, kayaking, or simply enjoying the riverside ambiance. The availability of different site sizes, including a "big site next to river," caters to various camping needs, from tent campers to those with larger recreational vehicles. However, a crucial feature to be aware of, as pointed out in a review, is the orientation of the driveways on three of the four sites. For those with small campers backing into these sites, the camper door will open towards the adjacent campsite, which might impact privacy and convenience. This is a practical consideration when selecting a site. The presence of the historic Hune Covered Bridge itself is a unique feature, offering a picturesque landmark to explore and photograph. The campground appears to cater to those seeking a more traditional camping experience focused on the outdoors and the unique local attraction.
Promotional information for the Historic Hune Covered Bridge Campground is not explicitly provided in the given reviews. However, the campground's inherent appeal lies in its beautiful location and the novelty of camping near a historic covered bridge. For those searching for "camping near me" with a blend of nature and history, this campground offers a unique draw. The quiet atmosphere during the week could be a promotional point for those seeking a peaceful escape. Conversely, the river access might appeal to those looking for water-based recreation on the weekends, even with the associated parking activity. To learn about specific rates, site availability, and any potential discounts for weekday stays or longer visits, it is best to contact the campground directly at (740) 373-9055 or +1 740-373-9055. When making inquiries, it would be wise to ask about site-specific details, especially regarding driveway orientation for campers, and to clarify parking policies for campers versus those using the river access.
In conclusion, the Historic Hune Covered Bridge Campground in Wingett Run, Ohio, offers a "camping near me" experience with a distinctive charm, thanks to its beautiful riverside location and the adjacent historic covered bridge. While the environment is generally appealing, potential campers should be aware of increased local activity and parking for river access on weekends. The campground offers various site sizes, but those with smaller campers should note the driveway orientation on most sites. For those seeking a blend of natural beauty and historical interest for their camping trip, contacting the campground directly at (740) 373-9055 or +1 740-373-9055 is recommended to gather detailed information about services, site features, and any current promotions to ensure a well-planned and enjoyable stay.

Historic Hune Covered Bridge Campground Reviews
What a beautiful location to visit. The covered bridge is amazing! Sadly, some people don't have any respect for history.
Sep 09, 2023 · Bud JacksonNice campground. Quite during the week but on the weekend the locals use it as a parking lot and drop off point for the river. I was in the big site next to river came back from town and some jerk had parked in the drive to my site and left to go down river 😡. All that was said when they returned is it's not a big deal we do it all the time. Also if you are taking a small camper the driveways on 3 of the 4 sites are are the wrong side. You will be opening your door to the adjacent site if you back in.
Sep 26, 2017 · James BlackNice little campground. It only has 3 spots though. Mostly quiet, but there were a Eurosong number of people going in and out for access to the river. Only facility is a pit toilet. Only a few minutes from many of the trails in the Marietta section of Wayne National Forest.
Jun 15, 2019 · Ford McElroyGreat little campground. The bridge is closed, so make sure you follow the NF Website detour directions to get to the camping area (I didn't pay attention, since I had been to the area before):"Hune Covered Bridge is currently closed due to a land slippage. To access the campground, please follow the detour route below. From Route 26 North Of Hune Covered Bridge, Near Wingett Run:Take Scottown Road (Twp. Rd. 35) across the Little Muskingum River. After a short drive, turn right onto Smith Road (Twp. Rd. 408).Follow Smith Rd./408 south along the river until you reach the campground."
Nov 14, 2020 · William DePaepe3-4 non-electric sites next to the Little Muskingum river. Very peaceful and quiet area. Pit toilet at site. Camp sites have fire rings and picnic tables. Nice access to shallow river for kids and dogs to play in supervised. Note that the Park Ranger, who visits occaisionally is rather firm about having dogs leashed.
