Mountwood Park Campground Introduce
For local users in West Virginia and the surrounding areas seeking "camping near me," Mountwood Park Campground, located on Borland Springs Rd, Waverly, WV 26184, USA, offers a natural retreat with a variety of features and accommodation options. Situated within Mountwood Park, this campground provides access to a scenic lake, mountain biking trails, and opportunities for wildlife viewing. Reviews from visitors offer insights into both the camping and cabin experiences available at this location.
One reviewer initially booked a stay at the "Lake House" within Mountwood Park but ultimately chose other accommodations upon arrival. Their detailed feedback provides valuable information about this specific lodging option, which might be relevant for local users seeking more than just a traditional campsite. They noted that the Lake House appeared to be a converted public restroom building, with two separate apartment-like units. While the interior was reported as "spotlessly clean" and the kitchen and large bathroom were described as "new and quite functional," there were some drawbacks. These included a narrow hallway entrance, a lack of closets and artwork, and no TV or WiFi (which was known in advance). The furniture was described as "plain and sturdy." Ventilation seemed to be an issue, with translucent material instead of windows and sliding glass doors lacking screens, preventing fresh air flow. The reviewer also mentioned a strong fragrance of cleaning products. However, the back deck was highlighted as spacious with a scenic lake view, although it was noted that traffic noise from Route 50 could be present. Deck seating was limited to a wheelchair-accessible picnic table, suggesting guests might need to bring additional seating. Despite these drawbacks, the reviewer praised the host, Briana, as "delightful and an excellent communicator" and acknowledged the affordable pricing and the building's proximity to a mountain bike trail.
While the first review focused on the Lake House, the second review offers insights into the general camping experience at Mountwood Park Campground. This reviewer described it as a "great place to take a break and enjoy some squirrel and chipmunk games," highlighting the presence of wildlife. They also mentioned seeing deer, emphasizing the beautiful natural environment. For those interested in wildlife viewing as part of their "camping near me" experience, Mountwood Park appears to be a promising location. This reviewer recommended the "top of campground upper loop" for camping, suggesting it has fewer campers and more wildlife activity. They further advised that if camping, it would be preferable to go to the "3rd or 4th level" of the campground, implying that levels 1 and 2 might be more geared towards "permanent summer spots" and potentially harder to navigate ("harder to get in and out of"). This provides valuable location-specific advice for local users planning to camp with RVs or larger vehicles.
The second reviewer also noted that the "cabins are nice and at the upper most part of the campground very peaceful spot." This indicates that Mountwood Park Campground offers cabin rentals in addition to traditional campsites, providing another accommodation option for local users who might prefer a more sheltered and comfortable stay, especially those seeking a "peaceful spot."
Based on these reviews, the environment of Mountwood Park Campground is characterized by a beautiful natural setting with a lake, wooded areas, and abundant wildlife such as squirrels, chipmunks, and deer. The presence of a mountain bike trail near at least one of the lodging options (the Lake House) suggests opportunities for outdoor recreation beyond camping and wildlife viewing. The campground seems to be tiered or looped, with different levels offering potentially different experiences in terms of crowding, wildlife activity, and ease of access, particularly for larger vehicles. The upper areas are described as more peaceful and potentially better for wildlife viewing.
In terms of services, the availability of cabin rentals is a significant offering. For campers, it can be inferred that standard campground amenities such as restrooms, water sources, and possibly picnic tables and fire rings are available, although these are not explicitly detailed in the reviews. The mention of "full hook up" or specific utility connections at the campsites is absent, so local users with RVs should inquire about the availability of these services when making reservations. The positive feedback about the host, Briana, indicates that customer service is a point of strength, at least for the Lake House accommodations. The office phone number, (304) 679-3611 or +1 304-679-3611, is provided for inquiries and reservations.
Key features of Mountwood Park Campground include its scenic location with lake access, the presence of mountain biking trails for outdoor enthusiasts, and the opportunity to observe local wildlife. The availability of both traditional campsites and cabin rentals caters to different accommodation preferences. The affordable pricing mentioned in relation to the Lake House might also extend to the camping options, making it an attractive choice for budget-conscious local users. The tiered layout of the campground, with recommendations for the upper loops for a quieter experience and more wildlife, is a unique feature to consider when choosing a campsite.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. There are no mentions of discounts, special packages, or seasonal events at Mountwood Park Campground. Local users interested in learning about current rates, availability, and any potential promotions should contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers. Information about park entrance fees, if any, and specific rules and regulations might also be obtained through direct inquiry or by visiting the official Mountwood Park or West Virginia State Parks website, if one exists.
In conclusion, Mountwood Park Campground offers a "camping near me" experience in a beautiful natural setting near Waverly, WV. With a lake, mountain biking trails, and abundant wildlife, it appeals to outdoor enthusiasts. The campground provides both traditional campsites, with recommendations for the upper loops for a quieter and wildlife-rich experience, and cabin rentals located in a peaceful area. While one review detailed some drawbacks of the Lake House accommodation, the overall sentiment towards the park's natural beauty and recreational opportunities is positive. Local users seeking an affordable camping or cabin getaway with access to nature and outdoor activities should consider contacting Mountwood Park Campground for more information and to make reservations.

Mountwood Park Campground Reviews
We planned a three-day stay at the Lake House, but chose to seek other accomodations once we arrived. Our host, Briana, was clearly disappointed, but she treated us with consideration. On arriving, we almost drove by the Lake House because we thought it was a public restroom for the archery course. We suspect the building was originally built as a public restroom and was modified to create one apartment from the men’s room and another from the ladies’ room. The front door opens to a narrow hallway, at the end of which hangs a dustmop and broom. The back deck is spacious and has a scenic view of the lake, but traffic noise from Route 50 competed with birdsong. Deck seating is limited to a large picnic table with wheelchair access. Guests would apparently need to bring along any additional deck seating. We do not recall seeing any closets. The walls contained no artwork. There is no TV or wifi, which we knew in advance. The furniture is plain and sturdy. The units are nonsmoking, as indicated by the sign on the front door.In lieu of windows, translucent material covers openings in the walls and ceiling. Sliding glass doors to the deck lack screens, leaving no opportunity for fresh air ventilation. The fragrance of cleaning products was strong. On the plus side: Brianna is delightful and an excellent communicator. The interior was spotlessly clean, and the kitchen and large bathroom looked new and quite functional. The building is located near the entrance to a mountain bike trail. Also, pricing is quite affordable.
Jun 13, 2024 · Arlene ArmstrongGreat place to take a break and enjoy some squirrel and chipmunk games. Deer wonder by, it is just a beautiful place. Pack a lunch and enjoy. Would recommend the top of campground upper loop . Less campers and more wildlife activity. If camping would recommend at least going to the 3rd or 4th level .. level 1 and 2 seem to be more permanent summer spots. 1 and 2 would be harder to get in and out of. Cabins are nice and at the upper most part of the campground very peaceful spot.

Sep 17, 2024 · Susan DeyarminGreat park, excellent value. Just off the highway with immaculate restrooms/shower house. Adjacent ATV trails male this an excellent weekend adventure.
Oct 11, 2023 · Bill PiersolSelfishly I don't want too many people finding out about this place lol. But you need to know this place is a gem! Randall is the best host I've ever had. It is the perfect camping spot and you can bring your quads/atv's and ride the trails right from your campsite. I will absolutely be back to this place, probably with a larger group! Randall is the best, anything you need and he is there in a few minutes or just a phone call away.
