The primary feature of Hocking State Forest Horseman's Camp is its direct access to an extensive network of horse trails within Hocking State Forest. According to a visitor's review, these trails are "well maintained and beautiful," suggesting a commitment to providing a quality riding experience. However, it's important to note the reviewer's advice to "be sure to have shoes on your horse, as the trails are very rocky." This highlights a key characteristic of the terrain and emphasizes the need for proper preparation to ensure the safety and comfort of your equine companion.
In terms of services and features specific to equestrian campers, the reviews provide valuable insights. Picket lines are provided at the campsites, allowing horse owners to securely tether their animals. Additionally, the camp requires riders to "bring something to pick up and haul your manure up to the bunkers they provide," indicating a commitment to maintaining the cleanliness of the camping and picket areas. This is a standard practice in equestrian campgrounds to ensure a pleasant environment for all visitors and to adhere to responsible land management.
While the camp is described as "small and fills up quickly," this suggests a popular destination, particularly during peak riding seasons. One reviewer mentioned that "there is also electric hook up on a few sites," which can be a significant convenience for those traveling with horse trailers or needing power for other amenities. However, the limited number of electric hookups underscores the importance of booking well in advance. The same reviewer also advised to "take a map from online as they are hard to come by, and the trails are not marked very well for the view points," highlighting the potential need for proactive navigation planning.
The phone numbers provided, (740) 385-4402 and +1 740-385-4402, offer direct contact with the campground, which is essential for making reservations, inquiring about specific site availability (especially those with electric hookups), and obtaining the most up-to-date information regarding camp rules, fees, and trail conditions. One of the reviews, while recounting a personal health emergency, still expresses a positive sentiment towards the campground and the riding experience, stating, "Fantastic place to ride." This speaks to the quality of the equestrian facilities and the overall appeal of the location for horse lovers. The reviewer's intention to "someday to come back" further underscores the positive impression of the camp and the surrounding trails.

Hocking State Forest Horseman's Camp Reviews
We came from Alabama. We met with friends at hocking hill camp ground got a beautiful campsite and the weather was perfect got to ride two great days. The trails are well maintained and beautiful sites. But on day 3 I got sick went to urgent care but that didn’t help. Friday I went to er at hocking hills hospital were they determined I had pneumonia. after 3 days of treatment there they sent me to Fairfield medical center in Lancaster Ohio. There I had surgery to relieve the fluid around my lungs. It has been a really rough week but on the road to recovery thanks to the doctors and nurses at both hospitals. They were wonderfulI plan to be released tomorrow Monday 9-23-24. I’m sure I will never forget this trip. But I do hope someday to come back 🤠
Sep 22, 2024 · marsha robertsonFantastic place to ride. Be sure to have shoes on your horse, as the trails are very rocky. Be prepared for lots of steep hill climbing and great photos. You also must bring something to pick up and haul your manure up to the bunkers they provide. Its requied to pick up your picket area. Picket lines are provided. There is also electric hook up on a few sites. Overall the camp is small and fills up quickly. Take a map from online as they are hard to come by, and the trails are not marked very well for the view points.
Oct 02, 2018 · G B BaylonVery nice place with nice people. Our area was very spacious and quiet. We were able to go to all of our points of attractions with a small drive, come back and eat lunch and head out again. There is a nice beach and extra stuff in Logan to do. This is a rustic place so its pit toilets and the showers are rustic.
