Horse Cave KOA Holiday Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Horse Cave, Kentucky area? Consider the Horse Cave KOA Holiday, located at KOA AVE, 489 Flint Ridge Rd, Horse Cave, KY 42749, USA. You can reach them by phone at (270) 786-2819 or mobile at +1 270-786-2819. Based on recent customer reviews, the Horse Cave KOA Holiday offers a mix of amenities and considerations for potential campers.
One aspect consistently praised by visitors is the cleanliness of the restrooms and showers. This is a significant factor for many campers, and the positive feedback in this area suggests that the Horse Cave KOA Holiday maintains good hygiene standards for these facilities. Additionally, the office area and store are described as very nice, with the added bonus of a neat little coffee shop. This can be a convenient feature for campers needing supplies or a morning coffee.
The staff at the Horse Cave KOA Holiday are also noted to be friendly and helpful, which can contribute positively to the overall camping experience. A welcoming and accommodating staff can make a difference, especially when addressing any concerns or needing assistance during your stay.
However, some reviews highlight certain aspects that potential campers should be aware of. One reviewer mentioned that the campground felt more like a parking lot than a traditional campground, with sites arranged on ledges due to the hilly terrain. This resulted in their assigned site being barely long enough for their travel trailer and tow vehicle. Campers with larger rigs may want to inquire specifically about site lengths and layouts when booking.
Another significant concern raised was the functionality of the sewer hook-up at some sites. One visitor reported a sewer pipe sticking out of the ground at an unusable height, preventing them from using the on-site black water disposal and requiring them to use the dump station instead, despite paying for a full hook-up site. While the management did offer a partial refund for the sewer portion after a complaint, it's something to be mindful of, and perhaps confirming the functionality of hook-ups for your specific site at check-in would be prudent.
Noise from the nearby Interstate is another factor to consider. One reviewer found the continuous traffic noise extremely disruptive to sleep. If you are sensitive to noise, this location's proximity to the Interstate might be a drawback. It's worth considering this if a quiet and secluded camping experience is a high priority for your search for "camping near me."
Another review detailed an experience with severe weather (high winds and tornado warnings) that led the campers to leave for safety. They had booked two nights but only stayed for a partial first night. They requested a refund for the second night but were denied based on the campground's cancellation policy. While this situation involved extreme weather, it highlights the importance of understanding the cancellation policy when making a reservation, especially during seasons or in areas prone to unpredictable weather.
Despite these concerns, the reviewer who experienced the unusable sewer and the Interstate noise still gave the campground a 3-star rating, primarily due to the clean restrooms/showers, the nice office/store with a coffee shop, and the friendly staff. This suggests that while there are drawbacks, there are also redeeming qualities to the Horse Cave KOA Holiday.
In summary, if you are looking for "camping near me" in Horse Cave, KY, the Horse Cave KOA Holiday offers:
- Clean restrooms and showers.
- A nice office area and store with a coffee shop.
- Friendly and helpful staff.
- Proximity to attractions like Mammoth Cave (mentioned by one reviewer as a planned visit).
- Various amenities typical of a KOA campground (though not explicitly detailed in these reviews, KOAs generally offer a range of services).
However, potential campers should also be aware of:
- Sites that may feel more like a parking lot and be situated on ledges.
- Potential issues with sewer hook-ups at some sites.
- Continuous noise from the nearby Interstate.
- A cancellation policy that may not accommodate situations like early departure due to severe weather.
For local users searching for "camping near me," the Horse Cave KOA Holiday presents a convenient option with clean facilities and friendly service. Its location near attractions like Mammoth Cave could be a significant draw for those planning to explore the area. However, it's advisable to consider the potential for noise and to confirm site suitability and hook-up functionality when booking, especially if you have a larger RV or are sensitive to noise.
We encourage you to weigh these points based on your priorities for a camping experience. If clean amenities and a friendly staff are paramount, and you are prepared for potential noise or site configurations, the Horse Cave KOA Holiday could be a suitable choice for your local camping needs. Consider contacting them directly to inquire about specific site details and any concerns you may have before making a reservation.

Horse Cave KOA Holiday Reviews
In our experience this was an OK Campground, but certainly NOT great. It felt more like a parking lot than a campground, and since it was on a hill, it was on ledges. Our assigned site was barely long enough to accommodate our travel trailer and tow vehicle. The Sewer Pipe was sticking out of the ground so high that it was unusable (you know "what" does not run up hill). I had to use the dump station as opposed to being able to discard of our black water at the site. They did, after I complained about this, extend me a small refund towards the sewer part of the "Full Hook-Up" price that I paid. Beware, that this campground is located very close to the Interstate and the traffic NOISE was continuous, and I personally found it extremely difficult to get a good night's sleep due to the noise. The only reason I even gave this place 3 Stars was because the Restrooms/Showers were very CLEAN, which we did appreciate, and also the Office Area/Store was very nice and even had a neat little Coffee Shop. The Staff was Friendly & Helpful.
Apr 11, 2025 · Doug TrimmerThe KOA was very nice, plenty of amenities and scenery. We booked 2 nights, March 4/5. We arrived before dark, easy set up and had dinner. It was very windy and rainy, no big deal when RVing as you go with the flow. Our concern came about 8pm when we had wind gusts between 45-55 mph and tornado warnings. We decided to pack it up and head to a nearby hotel for safety reasons. On Wednesday, we visited Mammoth Cave as planned. The wind and rain had let up slightly so we decided to move on and head north. The reason for the lower review is that we did not stay one night of the 2 we had booked. My wife asked if we could get the second night refunded as we would not be staying They said due to their cancellation policy they would not refund either night. Most of the time I understand cancellation policies and deal with it. I felt that due to the extreme weather and the fact that we were the ONLY RV in the campground they could have been a bit more accommodating.
Mar 07, 2025 · Randy JohnsonA great campground. We stayed in one of the treehouses and it was lovely. My daughter LOVED the treehouse. There was a nice shower, comfy beds, and a full kitchen. The campground is close to the interstate, so there is a bit of noise, but it's manageable.
Mar 25, 2025 · Bonnie MulliganThis KOA is so pretty, clean and conveniently located off I-65! It has Conestoga wagons, teepees, treehouses, cabins, easy to park rv spots—even a 43 ft. fifth-wheel and they all have nice picnic tables. The people in the office are very nice and helpful. The pool and playground areas are great as well!! It was quiet and we felt safe here. There is a dog dog park too.The surrounding countryside is also beautiful. We will be stopping again on our way back south in the fall and hopefully tour some caves!!!
Apr 07, 2025 · Lisa HarrisonOur family of five took our Class C RV to Horse Cave KOA over fall break. It was one of our favorite campgrounds we ever stayed at. The staff was fantastic and the amenitities were great. The whole family couldn't get over how incredibly CLEAN the bathrooms were. So nice. There is some noise from the interstate, but it's the price you pay for the convenient location. We didn't really notice it after a bit.
