Based on reviews from fellow outdoor adventurers, Horseman's Campground is highly regarded as a "great place for trail riding and primitive camping with horses." The campground itself is specifically designed to accommodate equestrians, providing a convenient basecamp for exploring the extensive trail network in the surrounding area. While the campground primarily caters to horse owners, its access to hiking and bike trails makes it an attractive option for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region.
The environment surrounding Horseman's Campground is described as offering "natural beauty galore," including "breathtaking stone cliffs, waterfalls, creek crossings, scenic vistas and plenty of hills." This suggests a diverse and picturesque landscape that provides a rewarding experience for trail riders, hikers, and bikers alike. The terrain is noted to be challenging in places, with hills that can provide a good workout for both riders and their horses. This varied topography adds to the appeal for those seeking an active outdoor adventure.
For equestrians, Horseman's Campground boasts three main trails: the blue trail (approximately 8 miles), and the red and orange trails (each 3-4 miles). These dedicated horse trails offer ample opportunity for exploration and enjoyment of the scenic surroundings. The availability of these specific equestrian trails makes this campground a standout choice in the "camping near me" category for horse owners in the region.
In terms of services and features, Horseman's Campground offers a primitive camping experience. Reviews indicate the presence of an in-ground restroom and grills for cooking. Notably, one reviewer mentioned "no water" being available at the campsites, while another pointed out a water trough at the campground for horses. However, both reviewers strongly recommend bringing your own water, especially if you plan to camp. This highlights the need for self-sufficiency when camping at Horseman's Campground.
The trail maintenance by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is mentioned as sometimes leaving "much to be desired," so visitors should be prepared for navigating some natural obstacles along the trails. This suggests that the trails offer a more rugged and natural experience, which may appeal to those seeking a more adventurous outing. However, it also underscores the importance of being prepared for potentially challenging trail conditions.
One important environmental factor to be aware of is the clay soil, which tends to be "on the muddy side" and is not ideal after periods of heavy rain. Equestrians and hikers should take this into consideration when planning their visits, especially after significant rainfall, as trail conditions may be affected.
Despite the primitive nature of the camping facilities and the occasional trail maintenance issues, the overall sentiment from reviewers is positive, emphasizing the great horse trails and the secluded nature of the spot. The combination of excellent riding opportunities and the natural beauty of the area makes Horseman's Campground a compelling option for local users interested in equestrian activities and outdoor exploration.
As a local offering within the "camping near me" category, Horseman's Campground provides a unique focus on equestrian camping and trail riding, while also offering access to other forms of outdoor recreation. The primitive camping experience allows for a closer connection with nature, and the secluded location offers a peaceful retreat. While specific promotional information was not provided, the primary draw is clearly the access to quality horse trails and the scenic environment of the area.
For local residents searching for "camping near me" who own horses and enjoy trail riding, Horseman's Campground in Poland, Indiana, is a must-consider destination. The dedicated horse trails, the natural beauty of the area, and the opportunity for primitive camping create a unique and rewarding outdoor experience. Imagine spending your days exploring the scenic trails on horseback or foot, surrounded by breathtaking cliffs, waterfalls, and picturesque vistas, and then returning to a secluded campsite under the stars. Horseman's Campground offers this opportunity for local users seeking an authentic and engaging outdoor adventure. While it may require a bit more self-sufficiency due to the primitive amenities, the rewards of the stunning natural environment and the excellent trail system are well worth it for those who appreciate a true outdoor experience close to home. Be sure to plan accordingly, keeping in mind the potential for muddy trails after rain and the need to bring your own water.

Horseman's Campground Reviews
Great place for trail riding and primitive camping with horses.at the Horse campground. Hikers and bike trails can be acessed via this location as well. Trail maintenance by the DNR leaves much to be desired, so be prepared for navigating some natural obstacles. ...but never less OPSF offers natural beauty galore, breathtaking stone cliffs, waterfalls, creek crossings, scenic vistas and plenty of hills, that get you and your horses in shape. Clay soil tends to be on the muddy side - not the place to be after lots of rain. For equestrians there are three trails: blue ( aprox 8 miles), red and orange ( 3 - 4 mi each) . There is a water trough at the campground for the horses but I recommend to bring your own water if you plan to camp here.
