Initial Creek Campground Introduce
For local users in Montana and neighboring areas seeking a tranquil and less crowded camping experience in a natural mountain setting, and searching within the category of "camping near me," Initial Creek Campground, located off Forest Service Road 2846 in Nye, MT 59061, USA, offers a potentially ideal retreat. Situated in a more remote area, this campground promises peace and quiet for those willing to navigate the access road. The reviews provide valuable insights into the campground's environment, limited services, key features, and crucial information regarding accessibility.
The environment surrounding Initial Creek Campground is characterized by its location in a mountain area, likely within or near a forest. One reviewer mentions riding along a trail to reach the campground and notes the presence of a nearby stream, suggesting a natural setting with the soothing sounds of flowing water. The existence of "primitive sites scattered around the area, most closer to the stream," indicates a relatively undeveloped camping experience focused on immersion in nature. Another reviewer highlights the "breathtaking" views available both on the road leading to the campground and from "on top of Horsemans Flata," suggesting that the location offers scenic vistas and opportunities to appreciate the surrounding landscape. The overall environment is one of relative seclusion and natural beauty, appealing to those who prefer a less manicured and more wilderness-oriented camping experience.
The services and amenities at Initial Creek Campground appear to be quite basic, consistent with a more primitive camping setting. One review explicitly mentions the presence of "one outhouse," indicating that restroom facilities are limited and likely non-flush. The availability of a nearby stream suggests a potential water source, although its potability would need to be confirmed and appropriate water treatment methods employed. The mention of "clean site" implies that campers generally maintain the area's cleanliness. The existence of "primitive sites scattered around the area" further reinforces the notion of minimal development, likely lacking amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings (beyond possibly makeshift ones), or designated parking spots for each site. The initial part of one review mentions that the location is described as a "livestock trailer parking area," which might be a point of confusion but could indicate a more open area suitable for parking, even if not specifically designed as individual campsites. Given the limited services described, campers should be prepared for a self-sufficient experience, bringing their own water, cooking equipment, and waste disposal bags.
The key features of Initial Creek Campground include its remoteness and the resulting peace and quiet, as emphasized by one reviewer who stated, "there is rarely any crowds and you can get some true peace and quiet." The proximity to a stream is another notable feature, offering a natural element and potential for enjoying the water. The breathtaking views from the access road and nearby Horsemans Flata are a significant draw for those who appreciate scenic beauty. The campground's primitive nature and the scattering of sites suggest a more individualized and less structured camping experience. However, a crucial feature, and one that requires careful consideration, is the access road. Multiple reviewers comment on the road conditions, describing it as "rocky rough," "gravel the entire way and narrow at parts," and potentially challenging for vehicles with low clearance. One reviewer explicitly advises against bringing a camper or trailer longer than 16 feet due to the narrow and tight nature of the road, especially if encountering oncoming traffic. Despite these challenges, one reviewer argues that the road condition is a worthwhile trade-off for the solitude and lack of crowds. The road also presents potential height concerns for some drivers, although another reviewer with a 4WD or AWD vehicle found it manageable without even needing a lift. Therefore, the access road is a significant factor in determining if Initial Creek Campground is a suitable choice.
No specific promotional information is mentioned in the provided reviews for Initial Creek Campground. As a more remote and likely publicly managed campground (given the Forest Service Road address), it may have a standard fee structure, if any, rather than frequent promotions. To obtain information regarding camping fees, permit requirements (if any), and seasonal accessibility, it is recommended to contact the managing authority, which is likely the Forest Service, at the provided phone number: (406) 446-2103 or +1 406-446-2103. They would be the best source for up-to-date information on any costs associated with camping at Initial Creek and any regulations or guidelines that visitors need to be aware of.
In conclusion, Initial Creek Campground offers local users seeking "camping near me" a secluded and quiet mountain retreat with scenic views and proximity to a stream. Its primitive nature and the challenging access road are important considerations. While the limited amenities cater to a more self-sufficient camping style, the potential for peace and solitude away from crowds is a significant draw. The breathtaking views along the way and from nearby areas enhance the overall experience. However, potential visitors must carefully assess their vehicle's suitability for the rocky and narrow access road and be prepared for a primitive camping experience with limited facilities. Contacting the Forest Service directly will provide essential information on current conditions, fees, and regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip to Initial Creek Campground.

Initial Creek Campground Reviews
I didn't stay here but stopped riding along the trail to get there, it's back up a rocky rough road, wouldn't recommend a car with low clearance. Clean site, stream is nearby, one outhouse. Few more primitive sites scattered around the area, most closer to the stream. If you don't mind the ride up, and like less people, probably a good fit for you. If I wasn't already staying with someone at another campsite, I'd have stayed up there. Would not bring a camper or trailer longer than 16' up there though, and the road is tight if you meet someone while going up, it will be tough. Even though this says it is a livestock trailer parking area.
Aug 15, 2023 · Tyrel ManleyNot sure why the roads condition is meriting bad reviews on this. The road is not for those scared of heights but the views while on the road as well as on top of Horsemans Flata are breathtaking. My fiance and I love Initial Creek CG since there is rarely any crowds and you can get some true peace and quiet. A simple 4WD or AWD vehicle can handle the road, it doesnt even have to be lifted. And if that's the price for ditching the crowds and loud folks, then it's a good price to pay for those seeking some solitude!
Jun 16, 2020 · Seth P (SethP2343)High mountain campground is now accessible with the improved Stillwater mine road. New water well being installed, clean restrooms, primitive camp sites, makes this a great getaway campground. Listen to the west fork of the Stillwater River roar all night as you sleep.
Sep 18, 2020 · Mark LangleyAn amazing, primitive campground. Not for the faint-hearted. Apprx 8 mile gravel driveway. No running water except the creek which is cold, clean and drinkable. No electric. Six numbered campsites as well as others not numbered in the trailer ahead. Nice restrooms close by. Would definitely recommend.
Jul 16, 2021 · Mervin StoltzfusBy far the most dangerous road I have ever been on. Came up at night and shook something loose in my soul. Took me a couple months to recover. Never ever again.
