Pine Grove Campground Introduce
For local residents and travelers seeking a spacious "camping near me" destination in the scenic landscapes of Montana, Pine Grove Campground near Absarokee presents a noteworthy option. Located in Absarokee, MT 59001, USA, this campground is described as large, offering "plenty of spaces for campers, RVs and tent camping," making it suitable for a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts. While one review expresses a desire for better maintenance by the forest service, others highlight positive aspects such as available amenities and a pleasant overall experience.
The environment of Pine Grove Campground is likely characterized by the natural beauty of the Absarokee area, which is situated in south-central Montana, near the foothills of the Beartooth Mountains. This region is known for its rugged terrain, forests, and access to outdoor recreational opportunities. The name "Pine Grove Campground" itself suggests a setting with a significant presence of pine trees, which typically provide shade and a pleasant forest atmosphere for camping.
In terms of services and amenities, the available information indicates the presence of water pumps, providing a source of water for campers. This is a significant convenience, especially for longer stays or for those who prefer not to carry large quantities of water. Additionally, the campground is equipped with two trash dumpsters, allowing for proper disposal of waste and helping to maintain the cleanliness of the area. These basic but essential amenities contribute to a more comfortable and responsible camping experience.
One particularly positive review mentions "absolutely amazing...fire wood cut and ready for use" and "easy access to the bathrooms." The availability of firewood on-site can be a significant convenience, eliminating the need to gather or transport it. The phrase "cut and ready for use" suggests that firewood might be available for purchase, although this is not explicitly stated. Easy access to bathrooms is another crucial amenity that enhances the camping experience, particularly for families and those who prefer more comfort than primitive camping offers.
The size of Pine Grove Campground, with "plenty of spaces," suggests that it might be able to accommodate a larger number of visitors compared to smaller, more secluded campgrounds. This could be beneficial for those traveling in groups or during peak seasons when finding available campsites can be challenging. The accommodation of both RVs and tents further broadens its appeal to different types of campers, indicating potentially varied site configurations to suit different needs.
However, it's important to consider the comment regarding the need for better maintenance by the forest service. This suggests that while the campground offers space and some amenities, the upkeep of the area might be perceived as lacking by some visitors. Potential campers should be aware of this and might want to seek more recent information or reviews to understand the current condition of the campground.
Despite the comment about maintenance, the positive feedback regarding the availability of firewood and easy bathroom access indicates that some aspects of the campground are well-received. The overall impression is of a large campground in a potentially scenic pine forest setting, offering basic but important amenities like water and trash disposal, with the added convenience of firewood (possibly for sale) and accessible bathrooms.
Given its location near Absarokee, Pine Grove Campground likely provides access to the natural attractions of the surrounding area. The Beartooth Mountains are known for their stunning alpine scenery, hiking trails, fishing opportunities, and wildlife viewing. Camping at Pine Grove could serve as a base for exploring these nearby natural wonders. Local users might find it a convenient option for weekend getaways or longer camping trips to enjoy the outdoors.
While specific promotional information or details about fees are not provided in the reviews, the mention of firewood being "cut and ready for use" could imply a purchase option, which could be considered a service for campers. To obtain more comprehensive information about Pine Grove Campground, including reservation policies, fees, specific amenities at each type of site (RV vs. tent), and any current conditions or alerts, it would be advisable to contact the forest service directly at the provided phone number: (406) 587-6701 or +1 406-587-6701. They would be the most reliable source for up-to-date details and any promotional offers that might be available.
In conclusion, Pine Grove Campground near Absarokee, Montana, offers a spacious camping area suitable for a variety of campers, including those with RVs and tents. It provides essential amenities such as water pumps and trash dumpsters, with the added convenience of potentially available firewood and easily accessible bathrooms. While one review suggests a need for improved maintenance, the overall impression is of a large campground in a likely scenic pine forest setting, providing a base for exploring the natural beauty of the Absarokee region and the nearby Beartooth Mountains. Local users seeking a well-equipped and spacious "camping near me" option should consider Pine Grove Campground and contact the forest service for the most current information.

Pine Grove Campground Reviews
A big campground with plenty of spaces for campers, RVs and tent camping. I just wish that the forest service would maintain the area better. There are water pumps and two trash dumpsters.

May 29, 2023 · Tex RorieLooks pretty, wish we could stay after drive up. Said open on website, but closed when we got there. Tent area 🏕 open, but not main for someone with trailer. 😔
May 11, 2021 · TNice space easy access for 4wd, spaces are small for RVs had a large Grizzly in camp on July 10th
Jul 18, 2024 · Michael MullThis campground is one of my favorites and is typically my first choice for camping if my family is with me primarily because of the bathroom access and water wells. It has several water well pumps and bathrooms throughout the entire camp site. The sites are well maintained and all of them have a table and fire pit. I did have an encounter with a bear one of the weekends I went up this year, so I do emphasize the importance of proper food storage and cleanliness for the sake of safety for you and your neighbors. There is couple of lakes right up the road that have good fishing, and are great for kayaking and canoeing. The road up is passable by all vehicle types but is very rough at times, so an SUV/crossover or larger is recommended.
