Island Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" seeking a tranquil and secluded riverside experience, Island Campground near Idleyld Park, Oregon, appears to be a "tucked away gem." Based on the limited but positive user reviews, this small campground offers direct access to the Coquille River, a swimming hole, and a fishing spot, making it an attractive destination for those who appreciate natural beauty and water-based recreation. While one review highlighted an issue with previous campers' behavior regarding waste disposal, the overall sentiment points to a lovely and fortunate find for those seeking a peaceful getaway.
Environment and Location: Island Campground is described as "small" and "secluded," suggesting an intimate and potentially less crowded camping environment. Its location directly "along the Coquille River" is a significant feature, providing campers with immediate access to the waterway. The river setting implies opportunities for enjoying the sights and sounds of flowing water, as well as potential for wildlife viewing. The mention of a "great swimming hole" indicates a specific area of the river that is suitable and enjoyable for swimming, likely enhancing the recreational appeal of the location, especially during warmer months. The presence of a fishing spot further adds to the allure for anglers. The overall environment seems to be one of natural beauty and tranquility, offering a respite from more bustling campgrounds. While the density of trees or specific landscape features are not detailed, the riverside location in Oregon suggests a potentially lush and scenic setting. The "minimal bugs" reported by one reviewer is also a notable environmental aspect that can contribute to a more comfortable camping experience.
Services and Amenities: Based on the user reviews, Island Campground offers some essential amenities. One reviewer specifically mentions "clean restrooms," which is a significant positive for camper comfort and hygiene. The presence of "fire pits in every site" suggests that campers can enjoy campfires for cooking and ambiance, provided local fire regulations permit them. Additionally, "picnic tables" are available at each site, offering a convenient space for eating and other outdoor activities. The negative comment about a previous camper leaving toilet paper indicates the absence of provided personal potties and underscores the need for responsible waste management, but it also implies that individual campsites might have space for portable toilets if campers choose to bring them. There is no mention of other amenities such as showers, electrical hookups, or water spigots, so it is reasonable to assume that these may be limited or not available. Campers should be prepared for a more self-sufficient camping experience regarding water and other utilities, beyond the provided restrooms, fire pits, and picnic tables.
Features and Activities: The primary features of Island Campground revolve around its direct access to the Coquille River and the recreational opportunities it provides. The "great swimming hole" is a major draw, offering a place to cool off and enjoy the water. The "fishing spot" caters to anglers looking to try their luck in the river. The secluded and quiet atmosphere of the small campground is another significant feature, appealing to those seeking a peaceful retreat away from larger, more crowded camping areas. The availability of fire pits at each site enhances the traditional camping experience, allowing for campfires and outdoor cooking. Picnic tables provide convenience for meals and other activities. The pet-friendly aspect, as indicated by the reviewer who enjoyed their time with their dogs, makes it a welcoming destination for those traveling with furry companions. The overall feeling of it being a "tucked away gem" suggests a sense of discovery and a unique, enjoyable camping experience.
Important Considerations and Potential Drawbacks: The primary concern raised by a reviewer is the issue of some campers not practicing "pack it in, pack it out" regarding their waste, specifically used toilet paper. While this reflects on the behavior of individual campers rather than the campground itself, it highlights the importance of responsible camping practices to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the site. Potential visitors should be mindful of this and committed to leaving no trace. The small size of the campground might mean limited availability, especially during peak seasons or weekends, as suggested by the reviewer who felt "lucky" to find a spot on a July 4th weekend. Therefore, advance planning and potentially reservations (if offered) might be necessary. The lack of information about amenities beyond restrooms, fire pits, and picnic tables means that campers should be prepared for a more basic camping experience and bring any additional necessities they might require.
Promotional Information and Local Appeal: For local users in the "camping near me" category seeking a secluded and peaceful riverside escape, Island Campground near Idleyld Park, Oregon, offers a promising option. The direct access to the Coquille River, with its swimming hole and fishing spot, provides excellent opportunities for water-based recreation. The small size of the campground suggests a more intimate and less crowded atmosphere, ideal for those looking to relax and connect with nature. The availability of clean restrooms, fire pits at each site, and picnic tables offers essential comforts for a pleasant camping experience. The pet-friendly nature further broadens its appeal. For local residents who value tranquility, riverside access, and basic amenities in a natural setting, Island Campground appears to be a hidden gem worth discovering. The positive experiences shared by previous visitors, who describe it as a "lucky find" and a place where they enjoyed their time, serve as a strong recommendation for this tucked-away treasure.
Staying Informed: Given the limited number of reviews, local users interested in Island Campground might benefit from seeking additional information if available. This could include searching online for any official campground details, contacting local recreational authorities, or looking for more recent reviews on other platforms. Inquiring about reservation policies, the availability of water, and any specific regulations regarding waste disposal would be helpful in planning a trip. While the existing reviews are positive about the location and basic amenities, gathering more comprehensive information will ensure a well-prepared and enjoyable "camping near me" experience at Island Campground along the Coquille River.

Island Campground Reviews
Truly a tucked away gem. Small campground, secluded, quiet, right along the Coquille River. Great swimming hole and fishing spot. Whoever stayed in campsite 3 before us....YOU NASTY. I cleaned up all of your used toilet paper that you left around in your personal potties. I really wish everyone would pack it in, pack it out. This little treasure shouldn't be disrespected like that. Other than that, I enjoyed my time here with my husband and dogs.
Aug 19, 2023 · Ryley KvernumStayed at campsite 6. Great water access and clean restrooms. Lucky to find this as our last stop before calling it quits on July 4th weekend. We were so lucky to have the opportunity to stay here. Minimal bugs, fire pits in every site with picnic tables.
Jul 07, 2024 · Bobby PlewniakLovey tiny little camp ground with about 5 spots. I camped here early spring and nobody else was there. The landscape is protected from weather except the occasional rain storm. This is a fantastic place to spend a week while biking or hiking the nearby trails. Stunning green forest with great sounds and smells. Don't pass it up if you get a chance to spend the night here.
Aug 09, 2017 · Devin CrightonIdyllic scenery right along the creek. The main road is a stones throw away but not too many vehicles through the night although due to the entrance being at the bottom of two hills the semi trucks coming through used Jake brakes which was a bit annoying other than that perfect spot. Bathrooms open, vault toilets. No toilet paper but big trash can. I wouldn't take anything longer than 25 feet since its one road in one road out with a loop at the end which is a tight turn just like the road coming in. About 10 spots maybe less. Very beautiful, $10 per night self kiosk. No firewood and very little on the ground, very damp due to location right off the creek in a bit of a valley with dense tree cover.
Nov 17, 2020 · Jay CooperPerfectly decent spot with easy to find and cut firewood if you have a handsaw. Good view of the river right by, not a lot of mosquitoes when I went but still a few.Would give 5 but then everyone would go
