Jellystone Park™ Androscoggin Lake

1 Wilson Pond Rd, North Monmouth, ME 04265, USA

4.0
This is the only campground that we go to. We’ve had a camper for three years and spent the first two years trying different areas with our family. Jellystone Androscoggin Lake is by far the most family friendly place to stay. Our daughters (9,3) have a blast every time. This is largely because of the staff at Jellystone. Aili and Chloe are great with kids and are always very helpful with the different activities from arts and crafts, bear appearances and everything in between. Alice, the Assistant GM, is awesome. She is always out and about and greets everyone when she is out in the campground. If we ever have an issue, she is quick to find a resolution. Paul works in Maintenance and also helps with bear appearances and driving the tractor for the Hey Hey Rides. Paul is always nice and extremely safe with his duties. Camping with two young kids and two dogs can be stressful, but these individuals always find a way to help, any way they can. We will always come back to Yogi Androscoggin Lake!! - Chris

Jellystone Park™ Androscoggin Lake Introduce

Are you a local resident searching for a "camping near me" experience that's specifically geared towards family fun? Consider Jellystone Park™ Androscoggin Lake, located at 1 Wilson Pond Rd, North Monmouth, ME 04265, USA. This campground, part of the well-known Yogi Bear franchise, aims to provide a memorable stay for families with a variety of activities and a lakeside setting. Based on customer reviews, experiences appear to vary, with some highlighting the exceptional family-friendly atmosphere and staff, while others point out areas needing improvement. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on the available feedback to help local users decide if this is the right "camping near me" option for their family.

When choosing a "camping near me" destination for a family, factors like kid-friendly activities, the friendliness of the staff, and the overall environment are crucial. Jellystone Park™ campgrounds are generally known for their focus on family entertainment, often featuring character appearances, arts and crafts, and various recreational facilities. Let's delve into what Jellystone Park™ Androscoggin Lake offers, based on the provided customer experiences.

Environment: Lakeside Setting with Potential for Improvement

One reviewer appreciated the "traditional campground Field winding roads" and the "easy access to sites," noting some washout issues due to rain that were being addressed. They also liked the "limited lighting" which made for a darker campground ideal for stargazing, and the "spacious" sites with "decent separation." This paints a picture of a campground with a natural feel, albeit one that can be affected by weather conditions.

However, another reviewer mentioned a "long access road that is not improved" and was "heavily eroded," causing issues when entering with a trailer. This suggests that the initial approach to the campground might not be ideal. The same reviewer also noted that their campsite upon arrival was "very dirty," loaded with garbage, which is a significant concern regarding the environment and maintenance.

The campground's proximity to Androscoggin Lake is evident in its name, suggesting potential for lake-related activities. One positive review mentions this lake association, although specific details about lake access or amenities directly on the lake aren't provided. Overall, the environment seems to have positive aspects like spacious sites and a darker setting for stargazing, but there are also concerns about the access road and the cleanliness of individual sites.

Services and Amenities: Family Activities and Some Limitations

Jellystone Park™ Androscoggin Lake offers a range of services and amenities, with a strong emphasis on family activities:

  • Organized Activities: One highly positive review praised the staff, particularly Aili and Chloe, for being "great with kids" and helpful with various activities like "arts and crafts, bear appearances and everything in between." This suggests a robust program of family-oriented entertainment.
  • Staff Interaction: Several staff members, including Aili, Chloe, Assistant GM Alice, and maintenance worker Paul, are mentioned positively for their friendliness, helpfulness, and interactions with guests, especially children.
  • Swimming Pool: While not explicitly mentioned in the likes/dislikes, the reference to waterslides implies the presence of a pool area.
  • Campground Layout: The "traditional campground Field winding roads" and spacious sites are appreciated by one reviewer.

However, a negative review pointed out significant limitations:

  • Amenity Closures: Many amenities were reportedly "closed during the week in August supposedly due to limited staff," which was not communicated beforehand.
  • Activity Restrictions: Restrictions on activities compared to other Yogi Bear resorts were also not clearly communicated, leading to disappointment.
  • Waterslide Rules: An issue arose with the enforcement of waterslide rules regarding life jackets, which was handled poorly by staff according to one account.

The services and amenities appear to cater to families, but potential local users should be aware of possible limitations, especially during certain times, and the importance of clear communication from the campground regarding these.

Features: Family Focus with Inconsistent Execution

The defining feature of Jellystone Park™ Androscoggin Lake is its focus as a family-friendly campground, particularly through the Yogi Bear theme and associated activities. The positive review strongly supports this, highlighting the engaging staff and the fun experiences for children.

  • Yogi Bear Theme: The mention of "bear appearances" indicates the integration of the Yogi Bear characters into the campground experience, which is a key feature of the Jellystone Park™ brand.
  • Engaging Staff: The staff members who actively interact with children and assist guests appear to be a significant positive feature.

However, the negative review reveals potential inconsistencies in the execution of this family-friendly approach, particularly concerning staff interactions and the availability of advertised amenities. The discrepancy in experiences suggests that while the intent is to be family-friendly, the actual experience might vary.
