Jellystone Park Recreation Center Introduce
If you're searching for "camping near me" that caters to families with a variety of recreational activities, Jellystone Park Recreation Center, located at 2250 US-211 E, Luray, VA, presents itself as a potential destination. Situated in the scenic Luray area of Virginia, this campground is known for its family-friendly atmosphere and attractions, particularly its water slides, which have been a hit with younger visitors. However, it's important to consider some feedback from recent guests to get a balanced perspective on what to expect during your stay.
As a "camping near me" option, Jellystone Park Recreation Center aims to provide a comprehensive resort experience for families. One positive review highlights a multi-family gathering where everyone, especially the children, had a great time and enjoyed the water slides. This suggests that the park offers engaging activities that can be a significant draw for families with kids. The potential for a return visit by the same group indicates a generally positive overall experience for some guests.
However, another detailed review points out several areas where the campground might need improvement. One significant concern raised was the uneven terrain of some camping sites, particularly for RVs. Campers reported difficulties in leveling their motorhomes, with some needing to fully extend their leveling jacks and still not achieving a level position. This issue was apparently widespread enough that some campers opted to move to different sites in an attempt to find more level ground. If you are planning to camp in an RV, it might be prudent to inquire about the levelness of your assigned site beforehand.
The same reviewer also noted a potential issue with the electrical infrastructure at the campsites. They discovered that the circuit breakers appeared to be residential duty (80% duty rated) rather than commercial duty (100% duty rated). This could mean that campers might not be able to draw the full amperage they would typically expect from a 30-amp connection without risking tripping the breaker. This is an important consideration for RVers who rely on a consistent power supply for their appliances.
Another area of concern highlighted was the food service at the food court connected to the store/arcade. One guest reported that during a lunch visit, several popular menu items, such as burgers and chicken, were unavailable. This lack of availability was disappointing, especially after their family had already begun placing orders for other items. This suggests that the food service operations might experience issues with inventory or availability at times, which could impact the dining experience for guests.
The third issue raised in the detailed review concerned the signage around the park's various attractions and activities, specifically the fishing pond. The reviewer noted that while there were safety rules regarding fishing from the pier (due to paddleboat operations), the signage enforcing these rules was minimal. This lack of clear signage potentially contributed to a situation where an unsupervised child ventured onto the pier to fish after hours, causing concern for the reviewer who was operating an RC boat on the pond at the time. This suggests that improvements in signage and potentially supervision around activity areas might be beneficial for guest safety and clarity of park rules.
Despite these criticisms, the reviewer who experienced these issues also acknowledged that Jellystone Park Recreation Center is "not an overall bad park/resort." They concluded that while it has potential and offers some enjoyable aspects, it does require "some work and attention in various areas." This provides a balanced perspective, indicating that while there are areas for improvement, the park still offers enough appeal for some visitors to consider it a worthwhile destination.
Given the information available, Jellystone Park Recreation Center appears to be a campground that focuses on providing a range of activities and amenities for families, with the water slides being a significant attraction. It likely offers various types of camping accommodations, including RV sites and possibly tent camping areas and cabin rentals, to cater to different preferences. However, potential guests should be aware of the reported issues with site levelness, electrical capacity, food service availability, and signage.

Jellystone Park Recreation Center Reviews
I stayed here with family in our motorhome in late August of 2023. First issue was the terrain of the camping sites. Our motorhome's leveling jacks on the passenger side were fully extended to account for the unlevel ground and yet we were still not level. Many other campers noted the same problem and moved to other sites to try and alleviate the problem. Also I discovered the electrical box at the site (and this likely is true at other sites) that the circuit breakers are not commercial duty (100% duty rated (30 amps = 30 amps)) and are residential duty (80% duty rated (30 amps = 24 amps)) so you couldn't draw up to the limit as you'd normally expect.Second issue was the food court place connected to the store/arcade. Went in for lunch one day and they were out of burgers and chicken... that put several of their menu items out of commission so I wasn't too pleased when I found that out after my family had already started ordering other items.Third issue has to with insufficient signage around the various park attractions/activities, mine in particular being with fishing at the pond. The pond has a pier and paddleboats for people to use during the day and fishing is not allowed from the pier but on the other side of the pond for obvious safety reasons and such. There's just one little sign at the pier that enforces this. After hours when the paddleboats closed down I went out on the pier and was operating my electric RC boat (which is not a small or slow boat by any means). I had even asked ahead of time with the park officials ahead of time about doing this and they were fine with it. Lo and behold while I'm there some father allowed his unsupervised kid to venture out onto the pier to go fishing which I was not happy about. It's not a overall bad park/resort but it does need some work and attention in various areas.
Apr 26, 2025 · Brian MausolfWe had a great time here with our family. My parents, and brother and sisters families came too and we might all come back next year. The kids were pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed the water slides.
Jul 31, 2024 · Tim BrownThis was our second time here. We loved it so much the first time that we stayed longer the second time . Lots to do for the kids . We enjoyed playing softball with the neighbors. Everything was clean. Just a great start to the summer next year we will stay longer 😊😊😊
Jun 27, 2024 · Shaquail Clark-DanceWe loved the campground and the view, but the Cozy Cabin left a lot to be desired. The blinds were broken on every window and provided little privacy. The screen door did not fit the frame at all, so if we wanted our front door open, the door was open to all the flies in the park. I'm pretty sure we had them all in our cabin. The heater/AC worked intermittently, and when it did, it whined so loud we were only able to get a few hours of sleep our first night there. The front office gave us space heaters to solve that issue as maintenance said the heater can not be fixed while the cabin was occupied. Although the space heater was noisy as well, it kept us warm, and we got some sleep. Tip: The website says to bring linens, towels, and grill accessories, you will also need dinnerware and paper products and silverware. The grounds are well kept and maintained. The golf carts could use some new seat covers because they are cracked and have been out in the rain, so when you sit on them, you will get wet pants. The camp office has lots of souvenirs and camp necessities. The front laundry mat had no machines operating, but there is another located across the campground and two or three washers. The comfort stations are large and clean with bathroom stalls and private shower stalls. They are open late.My kids really enjoyed the many playgrounds throughout the park, especially the jumping pillows and ziplines. We also enjoyed riding the golf cart around the campground, and we recommend that you rent one as well as the campground is very large. All is all, we had a very relaxing vacation is Yogi Bear Jellystone Camp Resort.
Apr 17, 2023 · A. “BackSeatRider” W.There is a good culture of family fun with other children to play with and a variety of RV sites, tent sites and cabins set in a picturesque area with woods around a large field. We had a good time even though we have only been there in the off season while the large water park section was closed. We found a new game here called Gaga ball which has become a family favorite. They also have jumping pillows, mini golf, gem mining, a fishing pond and pedal boats as well as a paint ball course and many activities planned. The view across the property and of the hill on the other side of the valley is wonderful.
