Jim Creek Navy Community Recreation Area Introduce
For local residents seeking an exceptional "camping near me" experience, Jim Creek Navy Community Recreation Area, located at 21027 Jim Creek Rd, Arlington, WA 98223, presents a well-maintained and diverse outdoor getaway. While it's a Navy facility, the positive reviews suggest it offers a welcoming environment for a wide range of visitors looking to enjoy the natural beauty of the North Cascades region. The campground boasts a commitment to upkeep, a helpful staff, and a variety of lodging options, making it a compelling choice for families, RV enthusiasts, tent campers, and those looking for cabin rentals.
The environment at Jim Creek is described as being "off the beaten path," implying a sense of peaceful seclusion away from more crowded areas. Situated within the North Cascades region, visitors can anticipate being surrounded by lush forests, with the potential for misty conditions or rain, as noted by one reviewer. This natural setting provides a backdrop for various outdoor activities, including hiking on the "many trails" mentioned. It's advisable to bring a hiking stick, as the trails are likely to be wet even on sunny days, suggesting a damp and verdant forest floor typical of the Pacific Northwest.
One of the standout features highlighted in the reviews is the exceptional maintenance of the facilities. Visitors can expect "well maintained RV pads," indicating level and prepared sites for recreational vehicles. Thoughtful touches such as "lights on the signs" and "dog hitching posts" further contribute to a positive and user-friendly experience. The shower and bathroom facilities are reported to be clean, although one reviewer playfully notes the presence of "stainless steel toilets" which can be cold. This attention to cleanliness and maintenance suggests a comfortable and well-cared-for camping environment for local users.
In terms of services, Jim Creek offers more than just campsites. The presence of a "little store" is a significant convenience, providing access to essentials like beer, candy, and souvenirs. The store also features a "small lounge," offering a place to relax. The "MWR team" (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) is consistently praised as "great and very helpful," indicating that visitors can expect excellent customer service and assistance during their stay. This friendly and supportive staff can enhance the overall camping experience, providing information and addressing any needs that may arise.
However, it's important for local users to be aware of certain limitations. Internet connectivity appears to be a significant challenge at Jim Creek. The campground's Wi-Fi was reported as "not working" despite being visible. Cell phone reception for internet access is also unreliable unless one has a "directional antenna pointed toward the cell tower" or a signal booster like a "Weboost Antenna," which some RVers reportedly used successfully. For those who need to stay connected, this lack of reliable internet is a crucial consideration. It suggests that Jim Creek is a place to truly disconnect and immerse oneself in the natural surroundings.
For those interested in fishing, Jim Creek might offer opportunities, but there are important caveats. The road leading to potential fishing spots is described as "very, very narrow," accommodating only one car at a time in either direction. This requires caution and patience when driving to and from fishing areas. Additionally, a "Washington Fishing License" is mandatory for fishing in the state, a detail that one reviewer noted was not explicitly mentioned in the MWR brochure but is essential knowledge for local anglers planning to fish during their visit.
Jim Creek caters to a diverse range of lodging preferences. Beyond the "well maintained RV pads" and "sites for tents," the availability of "rental cabins" offers a more comfortable and sheltered option, particularly appealing for families or those seeking a less rustic experience. The mention of "lots of trails" is a significant draw for hiking enthusiasts of all levels. Exploring these trails provides opportunities to experience the natural beauty of the North Cascades firsthand. Adding a touch of local folklore, one review playfully mentions "a few bigfoot in the deep woods (Supposedly)," adding a bit of local mystique to the hiking experience.
The reviews consistently portray Jim Creek Navy Community Recreation Area as a "great place for all and the kids," suggesting a family-friendly atmosphere. The combination of well-maintained facilities, diverse lodging options, recreational activities like hiking, and the helpful MWR team contributes to a positive and enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages. The comparison to "the old Naco parks" evokes a sense of nostalgia for well-run and cherished recreational areas, further highlighting the positive impression Jim Creek leaves on its visitors.
While there isn't specific promotional information like discounts or special offers mentioned in the provided text, the overwhelmingly positive reviews serve as a strong endorsement for Jim Creek Navy Community Recreation Area. Its key selling points for local users seeking "camping near me" include the well-maintained facilities, the variety of accommodation options (RV sites, tent sites, and rental cabins), the abundance of hiking trails within the scenic North Cascades, and the consistently helpful MWR staff. The store with basic amenities and the lounge area add further convenience. While the limited internet connectivity and the narrow road to fishing areas are important considerations, the overall experience appears to be highly rewarding for those looking to escape into nature without sacrificing basic comforts and a sense of good management. Local residents are encouraged to contact the provided phone number, (425) 304-5315 or mobile +1 425-304-5315, for information on reservations, availability, and any specific requirements for accessing this welcoming recreation area.

Jim Creek Navy Community Recreation Area Reviews
This place is off the beaten path but is well worth it. The first thing you will notice is how well maintained the facilities are. Nice touches like, lights on the signs, dog hitching post and well maintained RV pads. The shower and bathroom are clean but be prepared for the stainless steel toilets, they are cold (hahhah). There many trails that you take a hiking stick with you, it will be wet even if the sun is out.The MWR team is great and very helpful, as well as the little store, which has beer, candy souvenirs as well as a small lounge. If your looking for the internet here forget it. Unless you have a directional antenna pointed toward the cell tower there will be no internet for you. I saw a couple of RVers who had a Weboost Antenna at the campground and the were good to go. The internet at the campground was not working, you could see it but you could not use it.Over it is a great place for all and the kids.If you go fishing be AWARE that the road is very, very narrow and can only support on car going up or down. If you do fish you will need a Washington Fishing License. MWR, does not say that in their brochure but just a heads up.Be aware you are in the woods and you may see some mist or rain because you are in the North Cascades.Go, enjoy 😉
Jun 14, 2021 · Cornelius M. BookerGreat place. Reminds me of the old Naco parks. Has rental cabins, areas for rvs. Sites for tents. Lots of trails. And even a few bigfoot in the deep woods. (Supposedly)
Jun 22, 2024 · El ShaitanMy family and I stayed at Jim Creek for a 4 day memorial weekend (2018). Reservations were made through the DoD Lodging contact number. Attended with husband and 2 children, ages 3 and 4.We rented an on-site, brand new Mallard Travel Trailer that included hookups (electric and water). Fantastically priced at only 90$ a night! Maintenance emptied tanks upon request through the front office. If you check in after hours, there will be a pick up area located in the 24 hour lounge of the main building, number 4.Here are some perks we enjoyed:- low cost rentals for things we didn’t bring (ie: firewood, corn hole bags, helmets for bikes (helmet required when on site), bikes, horse show for games, variety of boats, fishing poles- you name it!- at least 2 parks on site that all the children love- each site had a fire pit (cabins, lodge, individual RV site)- on site grey/black water dumping- general store for basic itemsThe lake is about a 20 minute drive. Be mindful of the signs that lead you to the correct road to the lake as there is a car path and a mountain bike path.If you run out of food to cook, or didn’t bring everything on your way to the camp, there is a wonderfully priced grocery store in Arlington (which has organic items in stock!). There is a gas station about 5 miles outside of the site, in the main road. There is no cell phone service but you’re able to connect to their Wi-Fi and have access to their 24 hour lounge (with WiFi and computers). Don’t worry about cell phone service! You’re there to enjoy yourselves and your friends/family. Your experience will be better without technological distractions! There are at least (2) hiking trails
Jun 21, 2018 · Naomi AnelapumehanaThis is my 3rd time here and it never ceases to amaze me. The place is really a disconnect from the busy and connected world we live in now. I was here with family and friends and we were able to drink by the campfire and relax without getting disturbed. There's also entertainment and lots of things to do on this place like a Theatre and a park where kids can enjoy and have fun. There's no clean running water here so bring tons of water when you go and also just enjoy the stay and stay disconnected. There's plenty of parking here so no problem.
Aug 13, 2022 · Ron “ronskidude”We stayed in cabin 11. It's a nice spot being at the end and so close to the Alpine Tower. It was hella hot and took forever for it to cool down at night. We even brought electric fans. I recommend you bring window fans if you're there for the summer. We did the Alpine Tower, fishing at Twin Lakes, Disc Golf, and the dog park. Everyone had a great time. There's no signal for T Mobile at most spots. The ladies at the Rec Center desk were all super friendly and helpful.
