Gorgeous, well-maintained sites with friendly camp hosts. We stayed as a mid-point while backpacking the Wilson River Trail. There are no real backcountry sites on trail, so for $15 we opted to sleep here. For the price you get pit toilets with toilet paper, well water spigots, and firewood at $5 a bundle. Luxury to backpackers everywhere! Campsite 7 has nice river access to boot!I was glad I threw a bear bag when a mouse investigated our picnic table around 2am. Be advised and hang your food! - DirtyGirlHikes

Keenig Creek Campground Introduce

For local users in the Tillamook, Oregon area searching for "camping near me," Keenig Creek Campground, located at the somewhat unusual address of .54342, -.61223, 45 OR-6, Tillamook, OR 97141, offers a beautiful and well-regarded option, particularly appealing to backpackers on the Wilson River Trail and those seeking a more primitive camping experience in a scenic environment. Based on recent customer reviews, Keenig Creek Campground stands out for its natural beauty, well-maintained sites, and convenient location for outdoor enthusiasts.

One of the most prominent features highlighted by visitors is the overall aesthetic and upkeep of the campground. Reviewers describe the sites as "gorgeous" and "well-maintained," indicating a commitment to providing a pleasant and clean camping environment. This attention to maintenance likely contributes to a more enjoyable stay for all campers, ensuring that the facilities are functional and the grounds are tidy.

Keenig Creek Campground appears to be particularly well-suited for backpackers utilizing the Wilson River Trail. One reviewer specifically mentioned using it as a "mid-point" during their backpacking trip, noting the absence of real backcountry sites directly on the trail. For these hikers, the campground offered a convenient and affordable ($15 per night as mentioned in the review) place to rest and resupply. The amenities provided for this price were considered a "luxury to backpackers everywhere," including "pit toilets with toilet paper" and "well water spigots." The availability of these basic but essential amenities can significantly enhance the comfort and convenience of a backpacking trip.

Additionally, the campground offers firewood for sale at $5 a bundle, which is a valuable service for campers who plan to have campfires for cooking or warmth. This convenience eliminates the need to forage for wood in the surrounding area, allowing campers to focus on enjoying their time in nature.

A significant highlight for some campsites, specifically mentioned for Campsite 7, is "nice river access." This feature would be particularly appealing to those who enjoy fishing, swimming, or simply relaxing by the water. The proximity to the creek enhances the natural beauty of the campground and provides opportunities for water-based activities.

However, one crucial piece of advice from a reviewer concerns wildlife safety: "I was glad I threw a bear bag when a mouse investigated our picnic table around 2am. Be advised and hang your food!" This experience underscores the importance of proper food storage, even for smaller animals like mice, to prevent attracting wildlife to campsites and potentially larger animals like bears, which are known to inhabit the region. Campers should take precautions to secure their food in appropriate containers or by hanging it from trees, following Leave No Trace principles and ensuring their safety and the protection of wildlife.

Another reviewer who stayed in Campsite C5 on April 21 noted having "the whole place to ourselves," suggesting that the campground might experience varying levels of occupancy depending on the time of year or day of the week. This could be a significant advantage for those seeking a more secluded and quiet camping experience, especially during off-peak times. The same reviewer also confirmed the cleanliness of the "vault toilets" and the well-marked paths within the campground, further reinforcing the positive aspects of its maintenance.

It is important to note that Keenig Creek Campground is described as offering "no electrical hookups or reception." This indicates a more rustic or primitive camping experience, which aligns with its appeal to backpackers and those seeking a genuine escape from technology and modern conveniences. Campers should be prepared for this lack of electrical power and potentially limited or no cell phone service, embracing the opportunity to disconnect and immerse themselves in the natural environment.

Based on the available reviews, Keenig Creek Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained setting, particularly attractive to backpackers on the Wilson River Trail and those seeking a peaceful, primitive camping experience with access to the river. The amenities provided, such as pit toilets, well water, and firewood for purchase, are appreciated by visitors. However, campers should be aware of the need for proper food storage to avoid attracting wildlife and should expect a camping experience without electrical hookups or reliable cell phone reception.

As there is no information provided regarding specific promotional offers, seasonal rates, or detailed reservation procedures, local users interested in camping at Keenig Creek Campground should contact them directly at (503) 842-2545 or +1 503-842-2545. Inquiries should focus on campsite availability, specific features of different campsites (such as river access), any regulations regarding food storage and wildlife, and the process for making reservations. Given its positive reviews and scenic location, it is advisable to book in advance, especially during peak camping seasons or weekends.

In conclusion, for local users searching for "camping near me" who appreciate a gorgeous and well-maintained campground in a natural setting, particularly if they are backpacking the Wilson River Trail or seeking a tranquil, primitive experience with river access, Keenig Creek Campground is a highly recommended option. The friendly camp hosts and the provision of essential amenities at a reasonable price further enhance its appeal. However, potential visitors should be prepared for the lack of electrical hookups and limited reception, and should take necessary precautions regarding food storage to ensure a safe and enjoyable camping trip.
