Kenlake Campground Introduce
For local users in Kentucky and surrounding areas searching within the "camping near me" category, Kenlake Campground, located on Park Rd in Benton, KY 42025, USA, offers a camping experience with the significant advantage of proximity to Kentucky Lake and the renowned Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. However, based on recent customer reviews, it's crucial for potential visitors to be aware of certain limitations and characteristics of the campground to ensure it aligns with their expectations and camping needs.
One reviewer who stayed at site #66 highlighted a "nice view of the lake," which is undoubtedly a major draw for this location. The allure of lakeside camping often includes scenic beauty and potential access to water activities. However, this same reviewer noted that the site itself was "really small" and had a "drop off on the three sides." This suggests that some campsites at Kenlake Campground might be compact and potentially require careful maneuvering, especially for those with trailers or larger vehicles. The reviewer with a 16-foot trailer had to park their vehicle sideways to fit it on the site. This clearly indicates that space can be a constraint at some locations within the campground, and careful consideration of site dimensions is necessary when booking.
Another practical challenge mentioned was the distance of the water and electric hookups from the campsite. The reviewer noted that they had an extension cord but had to purchase an additional hose from a local store. This implies that campers should be prepared with extra-long utility connections to reach the hookups at some sites. This inconvenience is a significant factor for those relying on these amenities for a comfortable camping experience.
Despite the challenges with the campsite itself, the reviewer praised the "Love the location!" This underscores the primary appeal of Kenlake Campground: its strategic position just across the bridge from Land Between the Lakes. This proximity offers campers easy access to a vast array of recreational opportunities, including the Bison and Elk Prairie for wildlife viewing and the Homeplace, a living history farm that provides insights into the region's past. This makes Kenlake Campground a potentially ideal basecamp for exploring the natural and cultural attractions of Land Between the Lakes.
Regarding the campground's facilities, the reviewer described the bathrooms as "decent" but noted their location "at the top of the hill," which made them inconvenient to use for showers from their particular site. This highlights a potential issue with the layout of the campground, where amenities might not be easily accessible from all campsites. Furthermore, the reviewer pointed out the limited number of showers, with only three available and one being out of order. This resulted in only two showers for women, which was deemed insufficient for a full campground. This suggests that bathroom facilities might be a point of congestion and potential dissatisfaction during peak season.
The reviewer concluded that "over all, the majority of sites are close together and little," reiterating the concern about the size and spacing of campsites. The advice to "Pay close attention to site length when booking" is crucial for prospective campers to avoid difficulties fitting their equipment. The reviewer did mention that sites #65 and #66 were their favorites due to lake views and more spaciousness, indicating that some premium sites might offer a better experience in terms of size and view, although they might be in high demand.
Another review echoed similar concerns, stating, "If you like clean, well maintained places, this is NOT for you." This is a strong statement that potential visitors should take seriously. The reviewer further elaborated that "The sites are small, not very level and the bathrooms need work." These comments reinforce the issues raised by the first reviewer regarding site size, uneven terrain, and the condition of the restroom facilities. The second reviewer also mentioned that "The electric and water are often pretty far from the pad and you might need extension chords and longer hoses," corroborating the earlier observation about the utility hookups.
The second reviewer also expressed the opinion that "The State of KY should give more money to these parks to help maintain them," suggesting that the issues might stem from underfunding and a need for better upkeep of the campground's infrastructure. This is not a direct reflection on the campground staff but rather a commentary on the overall condition of the facilities.
Given these objective observations from real customers, Kenlake Campground offers a potentially attractive location due to its proximity to Kentucky Lake and Land Between the Lakes. The lake views from some sites are a definite plus. However, potential campers must be prepared for small and possibly uneven campsites, the likelihood of needing long extension cords and hoses for utility hookups, and potentially limited and less-than-ideal bathroom facilities. Careful selection of campsites, paying close attention to site length and potentially opting for sites like #65 or #66 if available, might mitigate some of these issues.
Promotional information is not provided in the reviews. Local users interested in Kenlake Campground should contact them directly at (270) 474-2211 or +1 270-474-2211 to inquire about site availability, specific site dimensions, the location of utility hookups, the status of bathroom and shower facilities, and any current rates or special offers. It would be wise to ask detailed questions about the specific site they are considering booking based on the feedback from other campers. While the location offers significant advantages for exploring the natural attractions of the area, the campground itself appears to have limitations in terms of site size, levelness, and amenities that potential visitors should be fully aware of before making a reservation.

Kenlake Campground Reviews
We had site #66, nice view of the lake! Site is really small and it drops off on the three sides. Our trailer is 16 foot and our vehicle had to be parked side ways in front to get it in our site. Water and electric are far away. We had an extension cord, but had to run to Dollar General to buy another hose. Love the location! Just across the bridge is Land Between the Lakes and minutes from the Bison and Elk Prairie. Check out the Home place to the south in Land Between the Lakes. The bathrooms were decent but they are at the top of the hill from us, so we didn't use the showers. Only 3 showers but one was out of order. Two showers for women isn't enough for a full campground. . Over all, the majority of sites are close together and little. Pay close attention to site length when booking. #65 is my favorite, then #66. They both have a lake view and are more spacious.

Oct 26, 2023 · Janet CraneElectric hookup is more like 100 ft from camper, not 50 as described. Water hookup is just as far away.Beautiful view from our large deck at site 28. Site is very tight to get into.Apparently picnickers are allowed to frequent the campground— more people in and out in cars than campers.Closing next year for much needed renovations. During our visit, everything closed—porta potties.
Sep 22, 2024 · Linda NowakOur trip was a 15 year wedding anniversary. We stayed at one of the cabins, just as we did 15 years ago and they are still just as clean and well maintained now as they were then. All the staff were so friendly, helpful and gracious. As an added bonus we walked out early one of the mornings to a surprise visitor. HIGHLY recommend this park to all!
Jul 02, 2021 · Angela FultonLet me start by stating this review is with regards to Kenlake SRP Campgrounds. While my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 6 day, 5 night LBL vacation. As KY residents and taxpayers we were quite dismayed with the disregard by Kenlake SRP Campground staff and their overall regard for the safety and security of registered campers but also the lack of adequate cleaning of the campsites and especially the comfort station (shower house). From trash throughout our campsite upon arrival Sunday afternoon to the overflowing trash and feminine hygiene products receptacles, plugged toilets in the men's side to decaying doorways, unsantitized toilet seats, and filthy shower floors and window "screens" in the "comfort" station, our 6 day, 5 night stay at the Campgrounds was less than satisfactory. Throughout our stay, the comfort station was marginally cleaned only once. And then there's the question about accessibility, yes I realize it's a 50 year old campground which gives its campsites the serene beauty of mature hickories, oaks and maples, BUT as for accessibility at the comfort station there is none. In today's age of federal ADA compatibility by all public facilities, this is not acceptable. For myself, my mobility is less than ideal, but I'm still amblitory, but for those unable to navigate elevated curbs, high steps in and out of the shower stalls, narrow toilet stall walls and doors, Kenlake SRP Campground shower house is not compatiable for those needing accessible facilities. With regards to the safety of registered campers, with the exception of check-in, at no time in our comings and goings through the Campground entrance was our or any of our friends vehicles checked for proper registration tags. With 4 out of the six days, the gatehouse's window blinds drawn closed. On the 6th and final day of our reservation, when we pulled out to depart, I personally spoke with the gatehouse staff to voice my concerns, and was told "that's what happens when we stay full". FULL? During our entire stay, the most sites occupied were 10.
