Fenton Self Service Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a no-frills and budget-friendly camping experience in the Murray, Kentucky area, Fenton Self Service Campground presents a viable option within the "camping near me" category. Located in Murray, KY 42071, USA, and reachable by phone at (270) 924-2000 or +1 270-924-2000, this campground offers a simple and self-sufficient approach to enjoying the outdoors, particularly for those interested in accessing Kentucky Lake and its surrounding attractions. While it may not boast extensive amenities, Fenton Self Service Campground provides the essentials for a comfortable and convenient stay, especially for those who value simplicity and affordability.
The environment of Fenton Self Service Campground is described as generally nice and pretty well-kept. Situated in proximity to Kentucky Lake and a bridge offering scenic views, the location provides easy access to both natural beauty and local landmarks. The presence of hiking trails directly from the campground adds to its appeal for those who enjoy exploring on foot. One notable environmental feature mentioned by a camper is a small creek near some campsites, offering a pleasant natural element to the surroundings. Additionally, the campground is noted for being quiet and very dark at night, which can be ideal for stargazing and those seeking a peaceful nighttime environment. However, it's important to note that some daytime traffic noise from a nearby bridge can be expected.
As a self-service campground, the operational model at Fenton is straightforward. Upon arrival, campers select an open site and complete an envelope with the necessary information and payment of $22 per night. This system emphasizes independence and ease of access. Each campsite is equipped with electric hookups, catering to those who rely on electricity for their camping equipment. A water fill-up station is available for campers to replenish their water supply. However, it's crucial to note that the campground does not offer a dump station for RV holding tanks, so campers needing this service will need to find alternative facilities nearby. For communal use, a picnic pavilion is available, providing a covered space for meals and gatherings.
One of the key features of Fenton Self Service Campground is its accessibility to Kentucky Lake. Its proximity makes it a convenient base for those planning to spend time on the water, whether for boating, fishing, or other lake activities. Furthermore, a path from the campground leads over a bridge, offering a scenic walk of about one mile and culminating in a beautiful vantage point for watching the sunrise. This accessibility to both the lake and walking trails enhances the recreational value of the campground for outdoor enthusiasts.
For tent campers, Fenton Self Service Campground offers a generally positive experience, particularly during less busy times of the year. The availability of fallen limbs for campfires, as noted by one reviewer who camped in early February, can be a significant advantage for those who enjoy the traditional campfire experience. However, tent campers, and even those in RVs, should be aware of the potential for noise from vehicles crossing the nearby bridge, which can be noticeable, especially for light sleepers. The spotty mobile phone reception mentioned in a review is also a factor to consider for those who need to stay connected.
In terms of promotional information, while specific discounts or special offers are not mentioned in the provided reviews, the consistent nightly rate of $22 makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers. The simplicity of the self-service model also means no booking fees or complex reservation processes, adding to its affordability and ease of use. The campground's appeal lies in its basic yet functional amenities, its proximity to natural attractions like Kentucky Lake and hiking trails, and its quiet nighttime environment.
In summary, Fenton Self Service Campground near Murray, KY, offers a simple and affordable camping solution for those exploring the Kentucky Lake area. Its electric sites, access to a water fill-up station, nearby hiking trails, and proximity to the lake make it a practical choice for campers who prioritize functionality and location over extensive amenities. The self-service model provides flexibility and ease of use, with a straightforward nightly fee of $22. While the potential for daytime traffic noise and spotty reception should be considered, the quiet nights and natural surroundings, including the creek and the scenic walk over the bridge, offer a pleasant outdoor experience. For local users seeking a basic yet well-located "camping near me" option, Fenton Self Service Campground is worth considering for a no-fuss getaway.

Fenton Self Service Campground Reviews
A simple campground with all electric sites. There is a water fill-up station, no dump. Nice hiking trails and close to the lake/bridge. Reception is spotty. It's quiet and very dark at night. Traffic noise in the day. It's self service, just fill out the envelope and pick an open site. $22/night. There is a picnic pavilion too.
Oct 22, 2024 · Rebbeca R.Tent camped in early February, (yes it was quite chilly) the campground was nice, pretty well kept and not busy. One thing i would point out is, especially if you are tent camping, you will be able to hear cars crossing over the bridge. so if you are a light sleeper or just don’t enjoy the sound of cars, this spot may not be for you. There was a little creek near our spot which was a cool little addition, there was also plenty of available limbs which we were able to use for our fire. This spot was very easily accessible, and a great spot if you will be heading out on the lake while there. You can also take the path from the campground over the bridge (about a 1 mile walk) if you want a beautiful spot to watch the sunrise!
