For local residents seeking a delightful "camping near me" experience centered around the scenic Kerr Lake, Kimball Point Campground, located in Manson, NC 27553, USA, offers a promising getaway. Situated on the shores of this expansive reservoir, Kimball Point Campground provides a variety of campsites with varying degrees of lake access, along with amenities that cater to both RV and tent campers. If you're looking for a local destination that combines the beauty of Kerr Lake with the enjoyment of camping, Kimball Point Campground is definitely worth exploring.
The environment of Kimball Point Campground is undoubtedly defined by its location on Kerr Lake, a large and popular recreational lake straddling the North Carolina-Virginia border. This lakeside setting offers a multitude of natural attractions and opportunities for outdoor enjoyment. Many campsites boast proximity to the water, with some even being directly on the waterfront, providing stunning lake views and easy access for swimming, fishing, and potentially boating activities (though boat launch specifics aren't detailed in the reviews). The presence of "plenty of shade" at some sites, like campsite 71, suggests a comfortable and cooler camping experience, especially during the warmer months. The campground also features a point area with more camping, indicating varied landscapes and potentially different perspectives of the lake. The mention of several beach spots that are mostly sandy (though not ocean-quality sand, but better than rocky lake beaches) highlights the availability of swimming areas suitable for families. The overall environment seems geared towards enjoying the lake and the surrounding natural beauty, offering a mix of shaded campsites and open areas with water access.
Kimball Point Campground offers a range of services to enhance the camping experience. The reviews mention "good sites mostly," suggesting that the campground is generally well-maintained. Full hookups are available at some sites, catering to the needs of RV campers. However, one review noted that some sites may require significant leveling gear, so campers should come prepared for potential uneven terrain. Electrical connections can also vary, with one specific instance mentioning the need for a very long (60') power cord at site 53. The campground provides bathroom facilities, including a bathhouse with separate men's and women's sections. While one reviewer described a bathroom as "really small" but slightly updated, they found the bathhouse to be cleaner than at another local campground (JC Cooper), indicating a commitment to cleanliness. For families with children, a small playground is located near the main beach area, providing a dedicated space for kids to play. The positive experiences shared in the reviews, such as the enjoyment of waterfront access and the overall satisfaction with specific campsites, suggest that the basic services are adequate for a pleasant camping trip. However, it's important to note the potential variability in site conditions and electrical needs.
The key features of Kimball Point Campground revolve around its lakeside location and the amenities that support enjoying Kerr Lake. Direct or close access to the lake is a major draw, with opportunities for swimming, fishing, and relaxation by the water. The playground near the main beach is a valuable feature for families with young children. The positive feedback regarding specific sites (50-52, 71) suggests that there are particularly desirable locations within the campground. The fact that one reviewer was so impressed that they doubted they would check out other campgrounds on Kerr Lake speaks volumes about the positive experience offered at Kimball Point. The availability of full hookups caters specifically to RV campers, making it a convenient option for those traveling with recreational vehicles. The point area with additional camping suggests a variety of site types and potentially different lake views or access points.

Kimball Point Campground Reviews
Clean campground with good sites mostly. Site 50-52 are good. Site 53 has a steep driveway and you’ll need like 60’ of power cord. But overall I’m happy with our site 52. Some sites need major leveling gear so come prepared. Some need nothing. We’ll return
Jul 08, 2023 · Quick TruckerWow what an awesome experience. We had campsite 71 and it is in a really nice area. There is plenty of shade and it was about 50 feet to the water. Some of the other surrounding sites were right on the water, but ours was just ducky for us. The bathroom was really small but had been slightly updated with her countertops and toilets. The bathhouse was the same but is was cleaner than the bath house at JC Cooper. After visiting this campsite I doubt we will check out any others on Kerr Lake. We walked out to the point where there is more camping and these spots were also really nice. There are several beach spots that are mostly sand (not like ocean sand, but better than rocks at many lake beaches). They also have a small playground where the main beach is. Overall one of our best camping experiences and we will definitely be back.

Aug 01, 2023 · Albert SchmittWe were impressed with the view from Site 57, but you can bet your *** we will never select that site again. It was so unlevel that our Grand Design couldn't auto level even with over 6 or 7 blocks under the rear outriggers. Not only was it very sloped from front to back it even had a side to side offset. It appears this was a loop added and not really considered as our neighbor on the site next to us had to call a tow company to get her small pull behind camper out of the site due to the same issues I have noted on 57. Please level these sites out or stop renting them until they can have some maintenance on them. Campground was clean and well attended to otherwise but do not try to put your camper on that loop.
Aug 08, 2023 · Lee BodenhamerGreat campground! Many sites have their own sandy beach and 15 minutes away is Pino's Pizza. Great take out or dine in! It makes camping, glamping!
