Lagoon Campground Introduce
For local users searching within the 'camping near me' category, Lagoon Campground, located near Westlake, Oregon, offers a camping experience with a range of amenities and access to natural beauty. Based on recent customer reviews, this introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the campground's environment, services, features, and some points to consider when planning your visit.
Environment: Coastal Oregon Setting with Hiking Trails
Lagoon Campground is situated near Westlake, Oregon, suggesting a coastal environment, potentially close to lagoons, lakes, or the Pacific Ocean. One positive review mentions "cool hiking trails that go around the camp site," indicating opportunities for exploring the natural surroundings on foot. The low wind mentioned by one visitor could be a pleasant aspect of the location. The specific type of landscape – whether it's forested, dunes, or directly adjacent to a body of water – would contribute to the overall camping experience. Being in the Westlake area, campers can likely expect the typical coastal Oregon climate, which can be mild but also prone to rain, especially outside the peak summer months.
Services and Amenities: Offering Convenience
According to one positive review, Lagoon Campground offers several convenient amenities:
- Running water: Access to potable water within the campground.
- Electricity: Some or all campsites may be equipped with electrical hookups, particularly the pull-through RV sites.
- Multiple bathrooms: Suggesting the presence of restroom facilities for campers.
- Pull-through campsites: Suitable for RVs or trailers, allowing for easier parking and setup.
- Large and small sites: Accommodating both RV/trailer camping and tent camping.
These amenities suggest a campground that caters to a variety of camping preferences, from those seeking basic tent sites to RVers needing hookups. However, another more recent review raises concerns about the upkeep of these services, which will be discussed further.
Features: Hiking and Varied Campsite Options
The standout features of Lagoon Campground appear to be:
- Hiking trails: The presence of "cool hiking trails that go around the camp site" offers a recreational activity directly accessible from the campground.
- Variety of campsites: With both large and small sites, as well as pull-through RV sites, the campground can accommodate different types of camping setups.
- Potentially private sites: One reviewer noted "some nice private sites," which could appeal to those seeking a more secluded camping experience.
The combination of amenities and natural features makes Lagoon Campground a potentially attractive option for those looking to camp in the Westlake area.
Recent Observations and Concerns: A Note of Caution
It is crucial to consider a more recent, negative review which paints a different picture of the campground's current condition. This review, from the first week of June, highlights several significant issues:
- High and uncut grass: Suggesting a lack of recent maintenance of the grounds.
- Piles of trash: Including trash at a specific site and under a dumpster, indicating potential cleanliness issues.
- No host on duty: For the two days of the reviewer's stay, there was no camp host present. The absence of a host can impact assistance, security, and the overall management of the campground.
The reviewer expressed disappointment, especially given that it is identified as a "National Campground," and felt that the observed conditions reflected poorly on Oregon to out-of-state and international visitors. This recent experience suggests that the campground may currently be facing maintenance and management challenges.
Promotional Considerations: Balancing Positives and Negatives
Lagoon Campground offers the convenience of running water, electricity, and various campsite options, including pull-through RV sites and tent areas. Enjoy exploring the "cool hiking trails" directly accessible from the campground and the potential for private campsites. Located near Westlake, Oregon, it provides a base to experience the beauty of the Oregon coast. However, recent reports indicate potential issues with campground maintenance, including uncut grass and trash, as well as the absence of a camp host. We encourage potential visitors to consider these recent observations alongside the listed amenities and natural features when making their plans.
Recommendation for Local Users
For local users searching for 'camping near me' in the Westlake, Oregon area, Lagoon Campground presents a mixed picture based on the available reviews. The campground offers desirable amenities like running water, electricity, and a variety of campsites, along with the appeal of hiking trails. However, the recent negative review regarding the condition of the campground, including maintenance and the absence of a camp host, is a significant concern. If you are considering Lagoon Campground, it might be prudent to check recent, more up-to-date reviews from other sources or even contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers – (541) 271-6000 or +1 541-271-6000 – to inquire about the current conditions and management. This will help you make a more informed decision about whether this campground meets your expectations for a pleasant camping experience.
Given the conflicting recent feedback, it's difficult to provide a straightforward recommendation without further information on the current state of the campground's upkeep and management. Local users who prioritize amenities like hookups and running water, and who appreciate having hiking trails nearby, might still find Lagoon Campground appealing if the maintenance issues have been addressed. However, those who place a high value on cleanliness and on-site management presence should be aware of the recent negative experiences reported.
In conclusion, Lagoon Campground has the potential to be a good camping destination near Westlake, Oregon, offering a combination of amenities and natural features. However, the recent concerns raised about its condition and management should not be overlooked. We advise local users to seek the most current information before making a booking.

Lagoon Campground Reviews
We made some great memories here, this camp ground has running water, electricity, multiple bathrooms pull through camp sites for RVs or trailers, large and small sites for tent camping and some cool hiking trails that go around the camp site. Some nice private sites here and the wind was low.I would definitely recommend checking this place out.
Jun 25, 2023 · Scottie LemmonVery disappointed in the overall condition of this campground when arriving the first week of June. Grass was high and not cut anytime recently, literally piles of trash at a site near ours (under the dumpster too), no host on duty for the 2 days we were there as well. For being a National Campground, it's not being run very well at all! While there we saw people from out of state and out of country, I was embarrassed that this was their impression of Oregon. Won't be back to this one anytime soon. :-(
Jun 16, 2023 · Bill ZimmermanI love this campground! My dad took me here when I was a teenager and I just took my own daughter here for her first trip to the dunes. First of all YES you can hear the noise from ATVs on the dunes, but seeing as that’s what the majority of the campers there (including myself) are there for, it’s kind of a given. ATVs aren’t allowed to be ridden in this campground so that helps keep noise down a bit. The campground is clean, the host was very friendly and informative, and most campsites have good privacy given how close some are. It could be difficult if you have a longer travel trailer because the paved driveway is pretty narrow. Most sites also have a lot of shade even though it never really gets too hot. The bathrooms are relatively clean and there are no showers but hey it’s camping lol. There is a short trail that loops around the outer edge of the campground and is nice to see the wildlife early in the morning and evening but bring your mosquito spray, and best of all it’s only a 10 minute drive to Florence if you need supplies
Aug 09, 2021 · Brad PetermeyerMid April was fabulous here. The camp host was exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable about local sites and activities. The restroom (second one was locked in the closed section of the campground) was centrally located, clean, and well stocked. Some sites are obviously better or more desirable than others, but this time of year (slow season) I was able to change sites easily to maximize my enjoyment. The nature trail around the campground was worth the evening stroll.
Apr 19, 2024 · George WolffThis is a great campground as it allows ATV’s in, but not allowed to be driven in the campground. (The other camps around do) This gives you the both of best worlds if you are like us who have done the ATV’s in the past but are now done. Our space was #25, close to restrooms, water and trash. The campground is nice for bike riding and nice walks around the lagoon. Quiet mornings listening to all the different birds, we even saw an otter in the early morning. It’s just a short drive to Florence, and had a great walk around Old Town.So go have yourself a great time!
