Driftwood II Campground Introduce
Welcome, local Oregon coast enthusiasts! If you're searching for "camping near me" and are located in or around the Dunes City area (address: Dunes City, OR 97439, USA), Driftwood II Campground offers a compelling option for a coastal camping experience. Based on recent feedback from fellow campers, this campground is highly praised for its location near the beach and its friendly staff, though potential visitors should be aware of some factors regarding campsite spacing and noise levels.
One of the most significant advantages of Driftwood II Campground, as highlighted by multiple reviewers, is its convenient proximity to the beach. One camper enthusiastically stated, "Great campground close to the beach!" This suggests that campers can easily access the Oregon coastline for activities such as walking, sunbathing, exploring tide pools, or simply enjoying the scenic beauty of the Pacific Ocean. The allure of being just a short distance from the beach is a major draw for many seeking a coastal getaway.
The quality of the staff, particularly the camp hosts, also receives high praise. One reviewer mentioned, "Camp hosts are the best!" and another described the host as "very friendly and nice!" who even provided "some free laundry tokens!" This positive feedback indicates that visitors can likely expect a welcoming and helpful atmosphere at Driftwood II Campground, with hosts who are attentive to the needs of campers and contribute to a pleasant overall experience. The offer of laundry tokens suggests that laundry facilities might be available at the campground, which is a valuable amenity, especially for longer stays.
In terms of the campground layout, one camper who arrived late and set up in the dark noted that "the campsites are a bit close to each other." This is a common characteristic of many campgrounds, especially those in popular coastal areas where space might be at a premium. While the proximity of campsites might reduce privacy to some extent, the same reviewer also pointed out that "the parking is spacious and there’s nice spaces for tents," indicating that there is adequate room for vehicles and comfortable areas for setting up tents.
A factor that potential campers should be aware of is the potential for noise, particularly in the mornings. The reviewer who arrived late mentioned that "Trucks and dune buggy’s started running at about 8am so it’s a bit noisy, but that should be expected." This suggests that the area around Driftwood II Campground might be popular for off-road vehicle activities, and the noise associated with these activities can begin relatively early in the day. For those who are sensitive to noise or prefer a quieter camping experience, this is an important consideration. However, as the reviewer noted, this type of noise might be expected in a coastal area known for its dunes and off-road vehicle recreation.
On the amenity side, Driftwood II Campground offers "good quality" bathrooms and the availability of "showers." Clean and well-maintained restrooms and showers are significant conveniences that enhance the camping experience, especially for longer stays or after a day at the beach or engaging in outdoor activities. The presence of showers allows campers to stay refreshed and comfortable during their visit.
Given its location in Dunes City, Driftwood II Campground likely provides access to the unique environment of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. This area is characterized by vast, windswept sand dunes, coastal forests, and opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and off-road vehicle use (in designated areas). The proximity to the beach combined with the dune landscape offers a diverse range of outdoor activities for campers to enjoy.
For local users searching within the "camping near me" category who are interested in a coastal camping experience with easy beach access and friendly service, Driftwood II Campground appears to be a strong contender. The availability of restrooms and showers adds to the convenience, making it suitable for a variety of campers, from tent campers to those with smaller RVs or trailers (though hookup availability is not mentioned in the reviews, so it's best to inquire directly). However, potential noise from off-road vehicles, particularly in the mornings, is a factor to consider for those seeking a quieter retreat.
To get the most accurate and up-to-date information, local users should contact Driftwood II Campground directly using the provided phone number: (541) 271-6000 or mobile phone: +1 541-271-6000. When calling, you can inquire about specific campsite availability, the proximity of campsites to each other, any restrictions or designated areas for off-road vehicles, the hours of operation for any facilities (like laundry, if available), and whether reservations are recommended or required, especially during peak season. You might also want to ask about any specific rules or guidelines related to noise levels within the campground.
While no specific promotional information was included in the provided reviews, it's always worth asking when you call if there are any special offers, discounts for local residents, or packages available, especially during the off-season or for longer stays. Checking the campground's website or any associated social media pages might also provide information on promotions or upcoming events.
In conclusion, Driftwood II Campground near Dunes City offers a highly appealing location for local users searching for "camping near me" who desire easy access to the Oregon coast. The positive feedback regarding the friendly camp hosts and the availability of amenities like good quality restrooms and showers enhance its appeal. However, the potential for noise from nearby off-road vehicle activities and the proximity of campsites are factors to consider. Contacting the campground directly for the most current information and to address any specific concerns will help ensure a well-planned and enjoyable coastal camping experience.

Driftwood II Campground Reviews
Great campground close to the beach! We always have an amazing time here. Camp hosts are the best!
Mar 14, 2025 · Johnny ChimpoWe ended up getting here late so we set up in the dark at 1 in the morning. The campsites are a bit close to each other but the parking is spacious and there’s nice spaces for tents. Trucks and dune buggy’s started running at about 8am so it’s a bit noisy, but that should be expected. The bathrooms are good quality and there are showers. The camp host was very friendly and nice! He even gave us some free laundry tokens!
Jul 17, 2023 · Hazel JohnsonWe come every year. The showers are kept clean as are the restrooms. The hosts are typically laid back as long as you're not making trouble. Dune access is close, with a short drive to the beach. You can hike as well, its about half a mile walk, and the hill is one to remember. A trip we look forward to every year! 2023 update- we had our first bad experience with someone stealing our gas cans on the first night. Lock your stuff up, I'm sorry to say it. But better safe than sorry. We'll be back again next season, but maybe the next folks won't. 2024 update- we locked our gear up, no trouble this year except for the massive family sand camped right off the entrance road. Can't win them all, but maybe next year they will gather further away. (We can hope) Showers weren't kept as clean this time around, we always pack shower shoes, just in case. The showers were free this season. See you in 2025!
Jun 28, 2024 · Shana RyanGreat for camping, the spaces are big, the showers are hot, the bathrooms are clean. The staff left us alone and we had a great time riding the dunes.
Jun 28, 2022 · Jon CNo hookups (you’re basically in a parking lot with trailer-sized slots) but very reasonable on the pricing and great place to drive on the dunes. There are restrooms that were open while we were there but the showers were closed as of 11/11/20.
