Lake Don Pedro - Fleming Meadows Entrance Introduce
For those actively searching for "Camping Near Me" that combines excellent lakeside recreation with comfortable amenities, Lake Don Pedro - Fleming Meadows Entrance stands out as a prime destination. Located at 11500 Bonds Flat Rd, La Grange, CA 95329, USA, Fleming Meadows is one of three developed campgrounds managed by the Don Pedro Recreation Agency, situated on the expansive and picturesque Don Pedro Lake. With 160 miles of shoreline and nearly 13,000 surface acres of water at maximum lake level, Lake Don Pedro offers a vast playground for outdoor enthusiasts.
The environment at Fleming Meadows is a key highlight, providing a quintessential lakeside camping experience. Nestled in the rolling foothills adjacent to Lake Don Pedro, campers are greeted with scenic views of the central valley or the sunrise over the water. The campground boasts ample shade, with many sites well-shaded by trees, contributing to a pleasant and cool atmosphere, especially during warmer months. The presence of the lake itself defines the environment, offering breathtaking views, particularly from the docks at sunset, as noted by appreciative visitors. Beyond the lake, the surrounding area features natural landscapes typical of the Sierra Nevada foothills, providing opportunities to observe local flora and fauna. The overall impression is one of a clean and well-maintained natural setting, conducive to relaxation and outdoor activities.
Fleming Meadows Recreation Area offers a comprehensive range of services and facilities to ensure a comfortable stay for all types of campers. The campground provides diverse camping loops, including options for full hook-up RV sites (water, sewer, and electricity with 30-amp and 20-amp outlets), tent campsites, and walk-in tent campsites. This variety caters to different preferences, from those seeking the comforts of their RV to traditional tent campers. There are 90 full hookup sites and 176 non-hookup and walk-in tent campsites. Each campsite is equipped with essential amenities, including a picnic table and a barbecue/fire ring. All roads and campsite parking spurs are paved for easy access. Restrooms with flushing toilets are available, and notably, hot showers are provided at no additional charge, a highly valued amenity for campers. A sewage dump station is also conveniently located within the campground for RVs. The staff at Fleming Meadows are consistently praised as "friendly and helpful," contributing significantly to a positive guest experience. The campground also features a camp store, ensuring that campers have access to basic necessities and supplies without having to leave the recreation area. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made online or by phone (209) 852-2396, with a minimum stay of two consecutive nights, and three nights on holiday weekends. Cancellations must be made at least 7 days in advance for a refund (less fees), or a voucher will be issued for cancellations made less than 7 days prior to arrival but with at least 24 hours notice.
The features and activities at Lake Don Pedro - Fleming Meadows Entrance are abundant and primarily revolve around the lake. A significant draw is the excellent boat launch ramp, described as a "great launch ramp," which facilitates access to the vast waters of Lake Don Pedro for boating, water skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, and canoeing. While the ramp itself is efficient, some past issues with other boaters blocking the ramp or docks have been noted, highlighting the need for common sense and respect for others' processes. The lake is renowned for its fishing, with a large population of diverse species including Florida Strain Largemouth Bass (some in double digits), trout, King Salmon, Kokanee, crappie, and catfish. Over 60 bass and fishing tournaments are held annually, and fish caught are released back into the lake. A fish cleaning station is available for anglers. Beyond the main lake, Fleming Meadows features a popular 2-acre swimming lagoon complete with a sand bottom/beach area and a large grass lawn, offering a safe and enjoyable swimming alternative to the open lake. This lagoon also has a snack shack and picnic area. For land-based recreation, the campground offers horseshoe pits, a ball field, and a volleyball court, providing opportunities for friendly competition. While specific hiking trails originating directly from Fleming Meadows are not extensively detailed, the broader Don Pedro Recreation Area offers trails like the Blue Oaks Hiking Trail and Moccasin Point Hiking Trail. Wildlife viewing is also a popular activity, with deer, turkey, quail, dove, eagles, and hawks frequenting the area. The full-service marina at Fleming Meadows provides boat rentals, fishing tackle, food, and boat motor repair, enhancing the overall recreational experience.
Promotional information for Lake Don Pedro - Fleming Meadows Entrance heavily emphasizes its appeal as a comprehensive lakeside vacation destination for "Camping Near Me." It is promoted as an ideal spot for families, water sports enthusiasts, and anglers, given its extensive water recreation opportunities and well-equipped facilities. The promise of a "clean campground" with "friendly and helpful staff" directly addresses common camper desires, ensuring a positive experience. The swimming lagoon is a significant selling point, particularly for families with children, offering a safe and controlled environment for water play. The campground's year-round operation further broadens its appeal, making it a destination for all seasons, though water levels and specific activities might vary. Despite vehicle and boat use fees upon entering the recreation area (which can be offset by annual passes for frequent visitors), the value offered by the comprehensive amenities and activities is a strong draw. Lake Don Pedro is not just a place to camp; it's a vibrant recreation area that offers a full range of outdoor experiences, from peaceful evenings by the fire to exciting days on the water. Its ability to provide both full hookup sites for RVs and traditional tent camping options makes it accessible to a wide audience seeking a memorable lakeside getaway.

Lake Don Pedro - Fleming Meadows Entrance Reviews
We had a great weekend. Made reservations online. Staff is friendly and helpful. Clean campground. We had a picnic table and a fire pit. Restrooms and showers are close if needed. We will be back.
Dec 10, 2024 · Lettie PachecoGreat launch ramp, only problem is people blocking ramp and docks because they either have no common sense, no respect for others or are just clueless. Wished they would watch the process from a distance until they understand the process.. It's really simple. Prep your boat before getting on or off the ramp, load or unload your boat and GET OFF the ramp. Keep your boat out of the launch area until your trailer is entering the water. 😲😲😲 All fish were successfully released back into the lake👍
Apr 15, 2025 · 2 4 dinnerFleming Meadows is our all-time favorite. We only launch out of here, and I’ve never really had a bad experience. The staff is extremely friendly, and Park. Rangers are great. Camping is a blast at the Flemming Meadows campground, we prefer section H since they are all full hook ups and for us it’s only worth it if we are there for at least a week.
Aug 30, 2023 · JTSuper fun place to bring kids! There's a $20 entrance fee but there's a lagoon for swimming. There's plenty of bathrooms, picnic tables and trees surrounding the lagoon. There are also areas for camping and fishing.
