Lake Eaton Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a picturesque "camping near me" experience in the heart of the Adirondacks, Lake Eaton Campground, situated at 1671 Tupper Lake St, Long Lake, NY 12847, USA, offers a beautiful lakeside setting. Nestled on the shores of Lake Eaton, this campground provides a rustic yet charming environment for those looking to immerse themselves in nature and enjoy water-based activities. While the facilities are basic, the natural beauty and friendly atmosphere make it a noteworthy option for a camping getaway.
The environment of Lake Eaton Campground is a significant draw for visitors. The campground's location directly on Lake Eaton provides stunning views and easy access to the water. The lake itself is described as "fairly shallow and very sandy on the campground site," which is particularly appealing for those who enjoy a sandy beach environment and shallow waters for wading or launching watercraft. The presence of many lakeside sites further enhances this appeal, offering campers the convenience of stepping directly from their campsite to the water's edge. This proximity makes it exceptionally easy for campers interested in "kayaking camping New York" or "canoeing camping New York" to get out on the lake.
The staff at Lake Eaton Campground are consistently praised for their positive attitudes and work ethic. The "three staff that care for this campground are friendly, helpful and hardworking," according to one reviewer. This small, dedicated team contributes significantly to the welcoming atmosphere of the campground, ensuring that guests feel supported and well-cared for during their stay. Their helpfulness can be particularly valuable for first-time campers or those unfamiliar with the area.
The facilities at Lake Eaton Campground are described as "rustic but well kept." This indicates that while the amenities might be basic and not modern, they are maintained in good condition. Campers should expect essential facilities such as restrooms and potentially showers, but they might be simpler than those found in more developed campgrounds. The cleanliness and upkeep are, however, a positive aspect, ensuring a comfortable experience despite the rustic nature.
The infrastructure within the campground includes roads that are noted to be "a bit rough." Campers should be aware of this, especially those with trailers or lower-clearance vehicles, and drive accordingly. The campsites themselves are generally "good sized" and equipped with standard amenities such as a "picnic table and fire pit." These features are essential for comfortable camping and enjoying outdoor meals and campfires. However, it's important to note that "some sites are sloped," so campers should pay attention when selecting a site to ensure it is suitable for their tent or RV setup.
A notable characteristic of Lake Eaton is that it is "a very breezy lake." One reviewer mentioned that "the wind starts at daybreak and continues until sunset," and another recounted an experience where the wind almost blew their tent away. Campers planning a stay at a lakeside site, in particular, should be prepared for potentially strong winds and ensure their tents and gear are securely anchored. While the breeze might be refreshing on a hot day, it's a factor to consider for comfort and safety.
Regarding wildlife, one reviewer mentioned that they "didn't see any bear activity but we did take all precautions and so should you as they are definitely nearby." This serves as an important reminder that Lake Eaton Campground is located in bear country, and all campers should follow proper food storage and safety guidelines to minimize the risk of encounters. The presence of a "variety of water fowl" adds to the natural charm of the location, providing opportunities for birdwatching and enjoying the local ecosystem.
The beach area at Lake Eaton is "not monitored so swim at your own risk." However, the water is described as "very shallow at the beach area which is nice for all," particularly families with young children or those who prefer shallow waters for swimming and wading. The campground also offers a "sand volleyball court" for recreational activities, but it's noted that there is "no playground or other equipment" for children.
Connectivity might be a concern for some visitors, as "cell phone reception is spotty depending on where you are but 1-2 bars for Verizon and AT&T." One reviewer with T-Mobile reported "no signal" and only a "light signal (Verizon)" in the area, suggesting that reliable cellular service might require traveling "outside for a mile or so." This limited connectivity can be a benefit for those seeking a digital detox but is important to consider for safety and communication needs.
For supplies, one reviewer mentioned that the "nearby town can provide firewood and other things you might need for camping." This suggests that while the campground itself might have limited offerings, essential resources are accessible within a reasonable distance.
Overall, the reviews paint Lake Eaton Campground as a "beautiful place" and a "must visit if you like to go camping," especially those who appreciate a lakeside environment and opportunities for kayaking and canoeing. The presence of "more than enough trails and hikes nearby" also makes it an attractive base for exploring the surrounding natural beauty of the Adirondacks. One reviewer specifically mentioned a "fireplace" that was "nice and different from the usual circular structure," suggesting a unique touch to the fire pits at the campsites.
The reviews also highlight the importance of being prepared for the weather. One camper who visited during a May weekend noted that they were prepared for rain but were surprised by the strength of the wind, which almost blew their tent away. This underscores the need to check the forecast and come prepared for various conditions, especially if camping near the lake.
The mention of a "place for disposing off the waste" indicates that the campground does provide a designated area for trash disposal, which is essential for maintaining cleanliness and following Leave No Trace principles.
The fact that one reviewer's visit to Lake Eaton Campground was their "first ever camping in the states" and they still had an overall positive experience speaks to the welcoming nature and beauty of the location. Their intention to return further reinforces the campground's appeal.

In conclusion, Lake Eaton Campground offers a charming and rustic "camping near me" experience in a beautiful lakeside setting within the Adirondacks. Its sandy beach, easy access for water sports, friendly staff, and unique fireplace structures are significant draws. Campers should be prepared for potentially windy conditions, rustic facilities, and limited cell phone reception. Sep 01, 2022 · Joseph StaceyThis was my first ever camping in the states. We went there in a group of 4 on may 20th weekend. It was forecasted for rains that happened and we were prepared with our tarp. The only thing we were not prepared for was the wind. It almost blew our tent away had it not been for us in it. Lol. So if you taking the site next to the lake, plan for it.The fireplace was nice and different from the usual circular structure. The staff was super friendly. They have a place for disposing off the waste. No signal(T-Mobile)/light signal (Verizon) in the area. You'll have to step outside for a mile or so to get it. Nearby town can provide firewood and other things you might need for camping.Overall, it's a beautiful place and a must visit if you like to go camping.More than enough trails and hikes near by for you to explore as well.
May 22, 2023 · Atishay JandThis was our first time here... and it won't be the last!! Great sites, staff is friendly bathrooms are clean and showers were nice and hot! You like to fish... come here! Dusk fishing is the best... there were 5 of us from different sites catching them left and right ... we waded out 100yards and casted back into the shoreline ...amazing. The kayaking was beautiful!! The bugs didn't really bother us...deep is the key!! Happy camping and enjoy
Jun 20, 2021 · James LaneOur second year camping here and will be coming back annually. Beautiful lakefront and wooded sites, all amenities of a state park campground except laundry and within a few minutes drive to long lake and plenty of restaurants and beautiful lakes and mountain trails. An hour or so from lake placid and the high peaks wilderness. Lots of kids and families
Aug 20, 2023 · Laura BennettMy fiance had a wonderful time camping at Lake eaton . They just make the camping experience so much fun and make you want to go back . One of my favorite things they offer is boat rentals, cannons, and paddle boards for very affordable prices for the whole day . The view, though, from the beach was just so beautiful we can't wait to go back . And
