Tioga Point Campground

Raquette Lake, NY 13436, USA

4.0
Beautiful campground in a beautiful area! Caretaker is extremely friendly and helpful. Only problem is that there’s a leaking electric line running underwater right at the dock that will give you a little shock if you try to get in the water in the immediate vicinity. You can swim at most spots but not near the dock. The utility company has known about this for years and has done nothing. - Andy Van Riper

While specific details about the services offered at Tioga Point Campground are not comprehensively available online, we can infer some likely amenities based on common campground offerings and insights from the customer reviews. The reviews mention "camping sites" suitable for tents and "easy up" structures, suggesting designated areas for tent camping. It is reasonable to assume that the campground provides basic facilities such as picnic tables and fire rings at each campsite. Access to restroom facilities is also a standard expectation for campgrounds, although the type (flush toilets or vault toilets) is not specified in the provided information. Water access for drinking and washing is another likely service, although its source and potability would need to be confirmed upon arrival. The mention of a dock indicates that boat launching and docking facilities are available for those wishing to explore Raquette Lake by water. The review also notes a "leaking electric line running underwater right at the dock," indicating the presence of electrical hookups at least in the vicinity of the dock, though this also highlights a safety concern. The friendly and helpful caretaker mentioned in a review suggests on-site management and assistance for campers.

The campground's location within the Adirondack Park provides access to a vast network of hiking trails, ranging from easy nature walks to more challenging mountain hikes, all within a short drive. The beauty of the area itself, as highlighted by multiple reviewers, is a key feature, offering stunning scenery and opportunities for nature photography and wildlife observation. Based on the objective information from the customer reviews, Tioga Point Campground offers a "beautiful" and "great location" for camping on Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks. The caretaker is noted for being "extremely friendly and helpful," contributing to a positive camping experience. The campground appears to offer relatively private sites suitable for tents. However, potential campers should be aware of a significant safety issue: a "leaking electric line running underwater right at the dock" that can give a shock to those entering the water nearby. While swimming is reportedly safe in most other spots, caution is advised near the dock. Additionally, one review mentions issues with a "large group" being "very loud and obnoxiously drunk" late into the night, suggesting potential issues with noise levels depending on fellow campers and the campground's enforcement of quiet hours. This group has reportedly been camping there for 15 years, and their behavior has led to complaints from other campers and awareness by the caretakers. Despite these issues, the reviewer still found the lake beautiful and their overall time mostly good.

For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Raquette Lake area, Tioga Point Campground presents a lakeside option with generally positive feedback regarding its location and the helpfulness of the caretaker. However, the serious safety concern regarding the electric line at the dock should be a significant consideration for potential campers, especially those planning to swim or use the dock area. It would be prudent to inquire with the campground management about the status of this issue before booking. Additionally, the potential for disruptive noise from other campers, as highlighted in one review, is something to be aware of, although this can vary depending on the time of stay and the other occupants of the campground.

When considering Tioga Point Campground, local users might also want to explore the broader Raquette Lake area, which offers numerous hiking trails, scenic boat tours, and opportunities for wildlife viewing. The town of Raquette Lake itself has a rich history and a charming atmosphere. Despite the noted drawbacks, the beauty of the lake and the surrounding Adirondack wilderness remains a significant draw for campers.

In conclusion, Tioga Point Campground offers a lakeside camping experience in a beautiful part of the Adirondacks. The friendly caretaker and scenic location are definite positives. However, the documented safety issue with the electric line at the dock and the potential for noise disturbances are important factors for local users to consider when searching for "camping near me." Direct communication with the campground management is recommended to obtain the most up-to-date information on these concerns and to inquire about services, availability, and any current promotions.
