Eighth Lake Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" that combines natural beauty with essential amenities? Consider Eighth Lake Campground, located at 1353 NY-28, Inlet, NY 13360, USA. As a state-run campground in the Adirondacks, Eighth Lake offers an affordable option for families and individuals seeking a lakeside retreat. You can reach them at (315) 354-4120 or +1 315-354-4120 to plan your next camping adventure.
Breathtaking Mountain Lake Scenery
Eighth Lake Campground is situated in a location that truly captures the essence of a mountain lake experience. One visitor on a four-day trip to three different campgrounds declared that Eighth Lake "took the cake for mountain lake mental imagery." This suggests that the natural setting of the campground is particularly stunning and memorable, making it an ideal destination for those seeking picturesque views and a tranquil environment.
Respectable Amenities and Services
As a state-run campground, Eighth Lake provides respectable basic amenities. According to a reviewer, the campground offers "free showers and bathrooms kept serviceable and clean," even noting that they are "better than some stores I might say." This indicates that while perhaps not luxurious, the essential facilities are well-maintained for a public campground. Camp sites are described as "roomy for multiple tents or modest trailers," suggesting ample space for various camping setups.
The campground also boasts a "sizable sandy beach with clear lake water" and a "small launch dock," making it appealing for those who enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and non-motorized water activities. For added convenience, rentable canoes are available, allowing campers to explore the lake at their leisure. Basic camping supplies and firewood can be purchased within business hours, and a recycling center is also provided, promoting environmental consciousness.
One reviewer who stayed at site 114 noted the "nice spacing between sites," which contributes to a sense of privacy and a more enjoyable camping experience. Their pad was described as being in "great shape with a great view of Seventh Lake" (it's worth noting the campground is on Eighth Lake, so this might refer to a view of a neighboring lake or a typo). They also enjoyed a "quiet paddle in the lake with numerous places to explore," further highlighting the appeal of the lake for recreation.
Points to Consider
While many aspects of Eighth Lake Campground are praised, some areas have been noted for potential improvement. One camper mentioned that the "fireplace is a little worn down," suggesting that the condition of fire pits may vary by campsite, with some being more "roughshod" than others, although still "serviceable." This is a typical feature of each campsite, and the reviewer felt consistent maintenance would be beneficial.
Another significant point raised is the condition of the campground roads, described as being in "horrible shape" with potholes. The reviewer mentioned that they are "supposed to be getting paved soon" and expressed hope that this occurs before any damage to campers results. This is an important factor to consider for those with trailers or vehicles sensitive to rough roads.
A unique observation was the daily flyovers of "military jets," which one reviewer found "cool to see and hear." This might be a point of interest for some visitors, while others might find the noise disruptive. It's an aspect of the location that is beyond the campground's control but worth noting.
Finally, the reviewer who enjoyed site 114 also mentioned a "nice hike out to Bug Lake" where they spotted a couple of loons, indicating opportunities for hiking and wildlife viewing in the vicinity of the campground.
Promotional Aspects (Based on Reviews):
Considering the "camping near me" category, Eighth Lake Campground offers several appealing features:

State run campground, respectable free showers and bathrooms kept serviceable and clean. Better than some stores I might say. Rentable canoes, basic supplies and wood available within business hours as well as a recyclable center.During a four day trip with three different campgrounds this one took the cake for mountain lake mental imagery. The only caveat I would say is the fireplace is a little worn down, as a staple of each campsite, should be the one consistent thing maintained. (Varies by campsite mine was more roughshod then most, but still serviceable)Remember, it’s an affordable public state park and campground. Not a private run HOA style maintained campground.
Jul 30, 2024 · B H (FangrenFaelrun)The campground has nice spacing between sites, and our pad on site 114 was in great shape with a great view of Seventh Lake. We enjoyed a quiet paddle in the lake with numerous places to explore. Military jets flew over each morning, which was cool to see and hear. We enjoyed a nice hike out to Bug Lake where we spotted a couple of loons. The one big negative is that the roads in the campground are in horrible shape. They are supposed to be getting paved soon. Let's hope so before someone loses a camper in one of those potholes.
Oct 13, 2023 · Dana AllisonNice, calm campground. Great, easy access to both seventh and eighth lakes from the campsite. Water, restrooms, and warm showers on-site. Bought a big bag of firewood at check-in for $11. No complaints other than some guests not strictly adhering to quiet hours. Restrooms/showers could use a little refresh, but no issue with utility.
Sep 21, 2023 · Nick NolkemperLarge campground, arrived at 5pm, no gates so couldn’t get any wood or ice. The pitches were large and open, close to the lake. Felt like the RVs there had been parked up all summer and I was interrupting, but just a layover on trip so was fine
Oct 08, 2024 · Steven SmithEight Lake is a great campground to unplug (no cell service) and unwind! My family has been camping here for over 50 years! First time camping here was when I was 10, we camped on the Eighth Lake side on campsite #29, $2 a night! 52 years later and we are still camping here! I camped with my husband and my son’s family we camped on the Seventh Lake side we were on site #117 very large site right across from the boat launch and dock, get view of the lake even from across the street. Son was on site #114 huge site right on the lake. There are not a lot of sites lakeside, but the ones that are have great access to the water. Most of the sites at the campground are large and well spaced out and very wooded. Sites are $22 a night (amazing only a $20 increase in price 52 years later)! The lakes are beautiful and the water is crystal clear and listening to the call of the loons was wonderful. Definitely recommend the hiking trail to Bug Lake, the trail head is just before the entrance to the Seventh Lake side of the campground. Great campground for getting around on your bike. The staff is super friendly! I highly recommend this campground it is so peaceful and quiet!
