Looking for an authentic Adirondack camping experience within the "camping near me" category? Golden Beach Campground, located at RR 28, Raquette Lake, NY 13436, USA, offers a long-standing tradition of outdoor getaways in a truly spectacular setting. With a phone number of (315) 354-4230 or mobile at +1 315-354-4230, this campground provides access to the wild beauty of the Adirondack High Peaks Region and the stunning shores of Raquette Lake. Based on local insights from fellow campers, let's explore the environment, services, and features that Golden Beach Campground has to offer for your next camping adventure close to home.
The environment surrounding Golden Beach Campground is undeniably one of its greatest assets. Situated directly on Raquette Lake, the campground boasts breathtaking views as the Adirondack Mountains rise majestically from the water's edge. This location offers a truly immersive experience in a wild and beautiful section of the Adirondack Park. Imagine waking up to panoramic lake views and the crisp mountain air. The presence of a large sand beach indicates excellent opportunities for swimming and enjoying the waterfront. The surrounding area is part of the Adirondack High Peaks Region, suggesting a landscape characterized by rugged mountains, dense forests, and diverse wildlife. It's important to be aware of the local fauna, as one reviewer noted an encounter with a black bear shredding garbage, emphasizing the need for proper food storage and adherence to campground guidelines regarding wildlife. The natural beauty of the area, including the potential for breathtaking sunsets over Raquette Lake, creates a memorable backdrop for any camping trip.
Based on the available reviews, the services at Golden Beach Campground appear to be functional but somewhat basic. Campers can expect to find restroom facilities and showers. While described as "old but serviceable" by one reviewer, it's important to note that another mentioned issues with the cleanliness of the showers and the absence of locks on the bathroom doors, as well as periods without toilet paper in the stalls. This suggests that while essential amenities are provided, they may not be modern or consistently maintained to the highest standards. The presence of tent sites indicates that the campground caters to traditional tent camping. The mention of a black bear encounter highlights the potential need for specific services or guidelines related to food storage and waste disposal to ensure the safety of both campers and wildlife. It's reasonable to assume the campground provides designated campsites with fire rings and picnic tables, although this is not explicitly stated in the reviews. For specific inquiries about services such as potable water access, firewood availability, or any other amenities, contacting the campground directly via the provided phone numbers is recommended.
The features of Golden Beach Campground are primarily centered around its exceptional location and natural surroundings. The direct access to Raquette Lake and its large sand beach is a significant feature, offering opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and potentially launching small watercraft like kayaks or canoes (though rentals are not mentioned). The stunning views of the Adirondack Mountains rising from the lake are a consistent highlight mentioned by reviewers, promising a visually captivating experience. The campground's location within the Adirondack High Peaks Region positions it as a gateway to numerous hiking trails and other outdoor recreational activities available in the area. The long history of the campground, with one reviewer having camped there for many years, suggests a well-established presence and a potentially loyal following drawn to its unique charm and location. However, the reported issues with the bathroom facilities, such as the lack of locks and inconsistent availability of toilet paper, are important features to consider when planning your stay. Similarly, the need for vigilance regarding wildlife, particularly bears, is a notable feature of camping in this region. Despite these drawbacks, the overall positive sentiment regarding the views and the general camping experience suggests that the natural features outweigh some of the facility-related concerns for many visitors.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information provided in the reviews. As a local user in the "camping near me" category, you would need to directly contact Golden Beach Campground at (315) 354-4230 or +1 315-354-4230 to inquire about any potential discounts for local residents, off-season rates, or any other special offers that might be available. Its prime location provides stunning mountain and lake views, along with opportunities for swimming and access to the wider Adirondack Park for hiking and other outdoor pursuits. While some reviewers have pointed out areas for improvement regarding the bathroom facilities, the enduring appeal of the campground seems to lie in its natural beauty and the overall camping experience it provides. Golden Beach Campground Reviews
Camped here many times in the last forty years. I brought my family camping here every year for twenty years. The Adirondack Mountains rise out of Raquette Lake in a wild and beautiful section of the Adirondack High Peaks Region. Be aware - we had a black bear shred our garbage in front of us one morning. The swimming area is a large sand beach. The bathrooms and showers are old but serviceable.
Mar 31, 2025 · Paul ZimmermanThe views are amazing here. The sunsets are breathtaking. Our tent site was fine. The only cons-the bathrooms don't have locks on the doors. There was no toilet paper in any of the stalls for hours. The showers could use a good cleaning. That being said we still had a great time.
Jul 14, 2023 · Jamie HongachBeen coming here for over 30 years. Recent weekend stay was as great as ever. One of the nicest freshwater beaches in the country, and great serene atmosphere and location
Aug 09, 2024 · Michael FianoSite 100- tent camping. The best campsite as far as size and water access I have ever had. There is a path down to a small sandy beach. Beautiful sunsets. The campground is basic- and from this site- it’s a bike ride, car ride, or long walk to the shower house. There is no place to do dishes - bring your own bin and heat your hot water- scrape all food scraps into the garbage.Bathrooms are close enough- but very outdated. Just a trickle of water in the women’s side. We brought our own water container for washing and brushing teeth. The staff isn’t overly energetic- but they are all kind and helpful. You can purchase ice and firewood on site. This campground is dog friendly.
Aug 15, 2023 · Bee forrestBeen going with my kiddos for the past two years, about to make it a third this coming August. I have been here in the past as well. This is where my heart lives. Everything from the beach to the campgrounds itself is peaceful. On good warm days the beach is fantastic, you can wade out up to your shoulder in the sandy bottomed, beautiful Raquette Lake. Staff is short handed, but still kind and friendly. Two years ago, even with a staff shortage my son broke his chain on his bicycle and a young man from the staff came and fixed it!The kids say “i’d give 10/10 stars.” and “everyone was nice and so was the beach”Bathrooms and shower houses are clean and cleaned daily. Most times you will see staff doing quick checks and clean up if needed. Staff is responsive to any kind or concern or issues that arise. All around love this place in the heart of the Adirondacks.
