Brown Tract Pond Campground

Browns Tract Rd, Inlet, NY 13360, USA

4.0
The campground itself is really beautiful, but it's falling apart and the rangers don't enforce the rules at all. One of the steps down into my campsite disintegrated when I stepped on it, the wood was rotten. The bathrooms are very dated, you have to drive 15 minutes away to Golden Beach Campground to use their showers (free at least), because there are no working ones at this campground. People run their generators outside of the actual time and for far longer than what's in the rules, one day a camper ran it from 9am to about 1:30 and this morning from 7:45am to a little after 9:30am. The rangers did nothing. The booth is also only open for 3 hours a day and the road to the campground desperately needs a proper paving. On the plus side, the sites are spacious and there is a fair amount of privacy between sites. You can hear loons and the pond is very scenic. If you go in summer bring plenty of bug spray, the mosquitoes are huge and plentiful. - kelly marsh

Brown Tract Pond Campground Introduce

For local users seeking "camping near me" in the Adirondack region, Brown Tract Pond Campground, located on Browns Tract Rd in Inlet, NY, presents a destination with notable natural beauty. Reviews from campers highlight the scenic pond and the spaciousness and privacy of the campsites. However, it's important for potential visitors to be aware of some reported drawbacks concerning the condition of facilities and rule enforcement.

When considering "camping near me," Brown Tract Pond Campground offers an opportunity to experience the Adirondacks' natural charm, particularly its namesake pond. The positive aspects mentioned by reviewers, such as the scenic views and the ample space and privacy between sites, make it an appealing option for those who prioritize a connection with nature. However, the feedback also indicates areas where the campground may not meet the expectations of all campers, particularly regarding infrastructure and management.

Environment: Scenic Pond and Spacious Sites

The environment of Brown Tract Pond Campground is consistently described as "really beautiful" and "very scenic," particularly the pond itself. Campers can expect to hear the calls of loons, adding to the natural ambiance. The sites are noted for being spacious, offering plenty of room, and providing a fair amount of privacy from neighboring campers. This suggests a layout that allows for a more secluded and personal experience in nature. However, one reviewer mentioned the presence of large and plentiful mosquitoes in the summer, advising visitors to bring ample bug spray.

While the natural setting is a significant draw, there are mentions of infrastructure issues within the campground, such as a disintegrating step at one campsite due to rotten wood, indicating that some areas may be in need of maintenance.

Services and Amenities: Dated Facilities and Limited Services

Based on the reviews, the services and amenities at Brown Tract Pond Campground appear to be somewhat limited and in need of updating:

  • Spacious and Private Campsites: This is a noted positive, with ample space and privacy between sites.
  • Dated Bathrooms: The bathrooms are described as "very dated."
  • Non-Working Showers: A significant drawback reported is the lack of working showers at the campground. Campers have to travel approximately 15 minutes to Golden Beach Campground to use their showers, which are at least free.
  • Limited Booth Hours: The ranger booth is reportedly only open for about three hours per day, which might affect accessibility to staff or information.
  • Road Condition: The road leading to the campground is described as desperately needing proper paving.

  • Scenic Views: The pond is described as very scenic, offering opportunities for peaceful enjoyment and photography.
  • Wildlife Sounds: The presence of loons and their calls contribute to the natural atmosphere.
  • Hiking (Implied): While not explicitly detailed, being in the Adirondacks often implies access to hiking trails in the surrounding area.

However, potential visitors should be aware of the need to travel to another campground for showers and the reported issues with rule enforcement regarding generator usage.

Promotional Information: A Scenic Retreat with Caveats

For local users seeking "camping near me" with a priority on natural beauty and spacious, private campsites, Brown Tract Pond Campground offers an appealing setting on a scenic pond in the Adirondacks. The opportunity to rent a canoe and enjoy the tranquility of the environment, including the sounds of loons, can make for a memorable experience.

However, it's important to be aware that the campground's facilities are reported to be dated, with no working showers on-site, requiring a trip to a nearby campground. Additionally, there are concerns raised about the enforcement of campground rules, particularly regarding generator usage. The road to the campground is also noted to be in poor condition.
