Ruby Creek Campground Introduce
For local adventurers in Montana and those searching within the "camping near me" category, Ruby Creek Campground presents a noteworthy option for a serene outdoor escape. Located on an Unnamed Road in Cameron, MT 59720, USA, this Bureau of Land Management (BLM) site offers a clean and well-maintained environment approximately 23 miles south of Ennis, Montana. Based on feedback from fellow campers, Ruby Creek Campground provides a solid foundation for exploring the stunning natural beauty of the region.
One recurring positive aspect highlighted by visitors is the cleanliness of the campground. A camper who stayed for two weeks in site 5 specifically noted it as a "Very clean BLM campground," further emphasizing this by stating it deserves "5 stars" for a BLM site. This focus on cleanliness contributes significantly to a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience, assuring local users that the campground is well-kept and cared for.
In terms of essential services, Ruby Creek Campground offers fresh water on-site, conveniently accessible via two centrally located spigots. This is a significant amenity for any camping trip, providing a reliable source for drinking, cooking, and general hygiene. Knowing that fresh water is readily available enhances the self-sufficiency and convenience for campers, particularly those planning longer stays.
While the immediate campground offers essential services, it's also worth noting the proximity to practical facilities. A county trash dump site is located a few miles south of the campground. While not directly an amenity of the campground itself, its nearby presence can be convenient for campers looking to properly dispose of waste during their stay, contributing to keeping both the campground and the surrounding environment clean.
The environment surrounding Ruby Creek Campground is characterized by the expansive beauty of the Madison River Valley. One visitor, on a fly fishing trip after Labor Day in 2023, described the entire valley as "beautiful" with the Madison River running through it. This speaks to the scenic appeal of the location, offering opportunities for picturesque views and access to the renowned Madison River, a significant draw for anglers and nature enthusiasts alike.
However, this same visitor also noted that the campsites themselves "do not have a lot of cover" and experienced wind throughout the day. This suggests that the terrain might be relatively open, offering less shade and potential exposure to the elements. While this might be a consideration for tent campers seeking more sheltered spots, the reviewer still found tent camping "doable." It's advisable for tent campers to come prepared for varying weather conditions and consider their setup to mitigate wind exposure.
The same review also mentioned that Ruby Creek Campground "seems to be better suited for RVs." This could imply that the campsites offer easier access and setup for recreational vehicles, potentially with more level ground or designated parking areas. For local users with RVs searching for "camping near me," Ruby Creek Campground appears to be a well-regarded option, particularly given its cleanliness and the availability of fresh water.
For those interested in recreational activities, the proximity to the Madison River is a major feature. The reviewer specifically mentioned managing to "catch a brown on a parachute hopper," indicating the river's potential for fly fishing. The Madison River is famous for its trout fishing, making Ruby Creek Campground an excellent basecamp for anglers looking to explore this renowned fishery. Beyond fishing, the beautiful valley likely offers opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and simply enjoying the natural scenery.
In terms of promotional information for local users, Ruby Creek Campground can be highlighted as a clean and well-maintained BLM site in a stunning location along the Madison River. Its key selling points include the availability of fresh water, its suitability for both RV and tent camping (with considerations for wind exposure for tent campers), and its prime location for accessing the recreational opportunities of the Madison River Valley, particularly fly fishing. The campground's cleanliness, as emphasized by a long-term visitor, provides an added assurance of a pleasant stay.
For local residents seeking a convenient and accessible "camping near me" experience, Ruby Creek Campground offers a gateway to the natural wonders of southwestern Montana. Whether you are an RV enthusiast looking for a clean basecamp, a tent camper eager to explore the valley, or an angler drawn to the Madison River, Ruby Creek Campground provides a solid and well-regarded option. Its location approximately 23 miles south of Ennis makes it easily accessible for a weekend getaway or a longer exploration of the region.
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip, local users are encouraged to check the Bureau of Land Management's website or local resources for any specific regulations, reservation information (if applicable, though BLM campgrounds often operate on a first-come, first-served basis), and the most up-to-date conditions at Ruby Creek Campground. Being prepared with information about potential wind exposure and the availability of shade will help tent campers optimize their setup. Overall, Ruby Creek Campground stands out as a clean, conveniently located, and naturally beautiful camping destination for the local Montana community.

Ruby Creek Campground Reviews
Very clean BLM campground about 23 miles south of Ennis, MT. We stayed in site 5 for two weeks. For a BLM site, 5 stars. There is a county trash dump site a few miles south. Fresh water on-site at two centrally located spigots.
Sep 05, 2024 · Brian CaldwellI was on an ad lib five day fly fishing trip in MT and happened upon Ruby Creek after Labor Day, 2023. The sights do not have a lot of cover and I felt the wind all day. It seems to be better suited for RVs but a tent is still doable. The entire valley is beautiful and the Madison River runs through it. I did manage to catch a brown on a parachute hopper.
