Lake Frances Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in Montana? Lake Frances Campground, located at coordinates 8P2Q+HC, Valier, MT 59486, USA, and reachable at (406) 289-0774 or +1 406-289-0774, offers a camping experience near Lake Frances with views of the mountains. Based on customer reviews, it's presented as a more basic campground that can be a "hidden gem" for those seeking a non-glamorous camping experience, while also having some limitations to consider for local users.
Environment:
The environment of Lake Frances Campground is characterized by its proximity to Lake Frances, offering campers "spectacular views of the mountains." One reviewer described it as being "right on the lake," although another mentioned that while there are some lake views, you aren't "really on the lake." This suggests that some campsites might have more direct lake access than others. The presence of a "nice lake side park" indicates an area for recreation by the water. However, it's also noted that there is "no shade" at the campground, which could be a significant factor during warmer months. The location is described as being "close-ish to East glacier (little over an hour)," placing it within reach of the stunning landscapes of Glacier National Park, although not immediately adjacent. The overall environment seems to be one of open spaces with lake and mountain vistas, but with limited natural shade within the campground itself.
Services:
Lake Frances Campground is described as a "basic campground." One important piece of information from a review is that, contrary to some listings (specifically on Campendium in this case), the campground does not have showers. This is a crucial point for local users who value this amenity. The presence of a "playground for the kiddos" is mentioned, indicating a family-friendly aspect. The availability of other standard campground services, such as restrooms (vault or flush?), water spigots, and potential fire pits or picnic tables at campsites, is not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews. Given the "basic" description, it's likely that essential amenities are present, but perhaps not extensive. Local users might want to call the provided phone numbers to inquire about the specific services available to ensure they meet their needs.
Features:
Key features of Lake Frances Campground include its lakeside location with mountain views, the presence of a lakeside park, and a playground for children. The proximity to Lake Frances suggests opportunities for lake-related activities, although the specifics (swimming, fishing, non-motorized boating?) are not detailed in the reviews. The campground's location within a reasonable driving distance (just over an hour) from the East entrance of Glacier National Park makes it a potential base for exploring the park, although it's not immediately adjacent. For those seeking a more rustic camping experience ("if you want to camp and not glamp"), this basic campground might appeal. However, the lack of shade reported by one reviewer is a feature to consider, especially during hot summer days. The "hidden gem" aspect mentioned by another suggests that it might offer a more secluded or less crowded experience compared to more well-known campgrounds.
Promotional Information:
For local users looking for "camping near me" in the Valier, Montana area, Lake Frances Campground offers a basic camping experience with scenic lake and mountain views. If you appreciate being close to the water and don't require extensive amenities like showers, this could be a good option. Families with children might find the lakeside park and playground appealing. Its proximity to East Glacier (about an hour's drive) also makes it a potential stopover or base for exploring that part of Glacier National Park. However, be aware that the campground is described as having no shade, which could impact comfort during sunny days. If you're looking for a no-frills camping experience with natural beauty, Lake Frances Campground might be worth considering. To get more details on available amenities and the exact nature of the lake access, local users are encouraged to call (406) 289-0774 or +1 406-289-0774. Keep in mind that while one reviewer found it a "hidden gem," another described it as "good for one night" and noted the absence of showers and limited direct lake access from all sites. Weigh these perspectives based on your camping preferences.
In conclusion, Lake Frances Campground offers a basic camping experience near Valier, MT, with lake and mountain views, a lakeside park, and a playground. It's relatively close to Glacier National Park's east entrance. However, it lacks showers and shade, and the directness of lake access from all sites may vary. Local users seeking a non-glamorous camping option with these characteristics might find it suitable, but should be aware of the limitations mentioned in the reviews.

Lake Frances Campground Reviews
What a hidden gem! If you want to camp and not glamp this pace is great. You are right on the lake with spectacular views of the mountains. There’s a nice lake side park and a playground for the kiddos. I would definitely come back.
Jun 02, 2024 · Matt OBasic campground good for one night. We found this place on Campendium and it was listed as having showers, but this is not the case. It’s close-ish to East glacier (little over an hour) but other than that, nothing much nearby. Some lake views, but you aren’t really on the lake. No shade
Aug 17, 2022 · LaurenGreat host. Ok for a city campground. Electric only at sites
Jun 30, 2023 · Dondi StenderGreat place for rv camping on way to Glacier. No reservations, but there were plenty of electric sites on a Saturday night. Clean restrooms, dump station, and only $30 ! Camp host on site. Just pick an open spot. Bring cash or check.
Jul 17, 2022 · Randy WhiteTent camping. I’d like to rate higher but in reality it’s a very basic spot. Very nice camp host. Lake is very low in water level, insects are more than most places (ants , mosquitoes, flies etc.). If the town could improve the general upkeep of the camp and lake area it would seem this could be a desirable campground but for now it’s just a place to stay the night and move on.
