Oak Park Resort Introduce
For local residents in the Fair Play, South Carolina area searching for "rv parks near me," Oak Park Resort, located at 228 Ledford Farm Rd, Fair Play, SC 29643, USA, presents a lakeside option with a mix of positive and negative feedback from recent visitors. Situated near the popular Lake Hartwell, this RV park appears to cater to those seeking access to the lake for recreational activities, particularly fishing. However, it's important for prospective local users to be aware of the reported limitations and potential drawbacks alongside the positive aspects to make an informed decision.
The Environment: Lakeside Views with Potential Drawbacks
One of the primary draws of Oak Park Resort is its environment near Lake Hartwell. One visitor mentioned loving the "views and the peace and quiet," suggesting a potentially scenic and tranquil setting. The presence of "water and docks" indicates direct access to the lake, which is a significant feature for those interested in boating and fishing. However, it's crucial to note that lake access can be subject to water levels, as one reviewer pointed out that the lake was "extremely low" during their stay from September to December, limiting its usability. This is a natural factor that can affect any lakeside property. On the other hand, some environmental aspects of the park itself received less favorable comments. The campsites are described as "nothing but gravel," which can make it "hard to keep your RV level." Additionally, the park is reported to be "totally pitch black at night," and a request for security lights was denied by the owner, who reportedly prefers the darkness. For local users who value well-lit campgrounds and easy leveling, these could be significant drawbacks. The lots are also described as being "right on top of each other," potentially leading to a lack of privacy and a less spacious camping experience. Despite these issues, another long-term visitor of 3.5 years, staying twice a year for three weeks each time, specifically mentioned liking the "easy access boat slip on site" and enjoying fishing, indicating that the lakeside access remains a strong positive for some.
Services and Amenities: Limited Basic Facilities with a Helpful Staff Member
In terms of services and amenities, Oak Park Resort appears to offer a very basic setup. One reviewer explicitly stated, "There were no amenities other than the water and docks." This means that common RV park amenities such as restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, and recreational areas might be absent or very limited. This could be a significant consideration for local users who rely on these amenities for a comfortable camping experience. Notably, the park does not seem to provide internet or TV services, requiring guests to have their own. Despite the limited physical amenities, the reviews strongly praise one staff member, Lynn, who is described as "awesome," "very helpful," and someone who "will handle everything." This suggests that while the infrastructure might be basic, the on-site management by Lynn is a significant positive aspect of the park. However, interactions with the owner, JR, as described by one reviewer, were less positive, including observations of unprofessional behavior and unfulfilled promises (like a picnic table). This discrepancy in the perceived quality of staff interactions is something for local users to consider.
Features: Lakeside Access for Boating and Fishing, Potential for Upgrades
The primary feature of Oak Park Resort is its access to Lake Hartwell, particularly the "easy access boat slip on site," which is a major draw for boating and fishing enthusiasts. The potential for lakeside views, despite the reported lack of overall peace and quiet due to the closely spaced lots, could also be considered a feature. Another potentially positive feature mentioned by a long-term visitor is that "the owner is always doing upgrades to the landscape and lots," suggesting an ongoing effort to improve the park. However, the first reviewer's experience of unaddressed issues (like the lack of a picnic table and security lights) presents a contrasting view on the effectiveness or responsiveness of the owner's management. The fact that the park might be better suited for "people who are there for work" rather than a traditional "camping feel" suggests that its features might be more utilitarian than recreational, beyond the lake access.
Promotional Information and Considerations for Local Users
Based on the mixed reviews, it's challenging to identify strong promotional points without potentially misleading local users. The easy access to Lake Hartwell and the ongoing upgrades mentioned by one reviewer could be considered positive aspects to highlight. For local users specifically interested in fishing and boating on Lake Hartwell and who prioritize lake access over extensive amenities, Oak Park Resort might be an option. The presence of a helpful on-site manager like Lynn could also be a reassuring factor for those who value good customer service. However, it's crucial for any promotional material to objectively address the reported drawbacks, such as the gravel lots, the darkness at night, the closely spaced sites, the potential for low lake levels affecting access, and the inconsistent experiences with the owner's responsiveness. Transparency about the limited amenities and the need for guests to provide their own internet and TV is also essential. A potential promotional angle could be to emphasize the park's focus on providing basic, affordable access to Lake Hartwell for specific activities like fishing, while being upfront about the areas where it might fall short compared to more amenity-rich RV resorts.
Recommendations for Local RVers Considering Oak Park Resort
For local residents in the Fair Play, SC area searching for "rv parks near me" and considering Oak Park Resort, here are some recommendations based on the available feedback:
- Prioritize Lake Access: If your primary interest is boating and fishing on Lake Hartwell and you value direct access via the boat slip, this park might be worth considering.
- Be Prepared for Basic Amenities: Understand that the park reportedly offers very limited amenities beyond water and docks. Ensure your RV setup is self-sufficient in terms of restrooms, showers, laundry, internet, and TV.
- Consider Potential Leveling Issues: Be aware that the gravel lots might make it challenging to level your RV. Bring appropriate leveling blocks and equipment.
- Plan for Darkness: The park is described as very dark at night. Bring adequate lighting for your campsite and for navigating the park, especially if arriving or moving around after dark.
- Manage Expectations Regarding Site Spacing: Be prepared for campsites that are close together, potentially impacting privacy.
- Check Lake Levels: If lake-based activities are your priority, check the current water levels of Lake Hartwell before booking, as they can fluctuate.
- Value Helpful On-Site Management: The positive feedback about Lynn suggests that you can likely rely on her for assistance with park-related issues.
- Be Aware of Potential Owner Interactions: The reviews indicate mixed experiences with the owner. Manage your expectations regarding responsiveness and follow-through on requests.
In conclusion, Oak Park Resort near Fair Play, SC, offers a direct connection to Lake Hartwell, which is a significant advantage for local RVers interested in boating and fishing. The presence of a helpful on-site manager is also a notable positive. However, prospective guests should be aware of the reported limitations, including basic amenities, gravel lots that can be difficult to level, darkness at night, closely spaced sites, and potential inconsistencies in the owner's management. Depending on individual priorities and the level of self-sufficiency of their RV setup, Oak Park Resort could be a suitable option for accessing Lake Hartwell, but it might not provide the full range of amenities and the overall "camping feel" that some local users might be seeking in their search for "rv parks near me."

Oak Park Resort Reviews
This was the first place we parked our RV when we bought it in September. I loved the views and the peace and quiet. There were no amenities other than the water and docks, but while we were there, you didn't really have use of the lake bc it was extremely low. This wasn't their fault. It is hard to keep your RV level bc it is nothing but gravel. Totally pitch black at night. I asked about security lights and the owner, JR said he likes it dark. The drinking water is so bad. We didn't even give it to our fur baby! The driveways in the upper part are so small you can not see them at night. I helped someone get their 5th wheel out of the ditch bc they are so bad. And it was daylight. The lots are right on top of each other. Personally, it is good for people who are there for work. It doesn't have the camping feel to it. You have to have your own internet and TV. Lynn, that runs the office, and everything else is awesome. Very helpful and always hel. We stayed from September to December, and I talked to JR two times. Once, he was on a golf cart with a beer in his hand and a cooler at his feet. Along with a couple that he was giving a tour. His dogs always run wild and I myself have never seen him clean up behind him. The other was when I asked about the lights and if we could get a picnic table. That's when he said he likes it dark. Then I asked him if he had a picnic table, and he said he would bring it back. Never got it, and when he was on the golf cart with the couple, he was showing them the lot beside me. I asked about the table, and he had no clue what I was talking about. However, I'm not saying we won't ever stay there again if needed. As long as Lynn is still there. We know she will handle everything, and we don't have to worry about dealing with the owner. Again, this is our personal opinion. Not bc he did anything to us.
Feb 25, 2023 · Karen HerringtonI have stayed with oak park resort for 3 weeks, twice a year for the past 3.5 year. I like the easy access boat slip on site. I fish most of the time I'm here 🤣. The owner is always doing upgrades to the landscape and lots . Looking forward to my next fishing trip.
Nov 29, 2021 · Michael CollinsBeautiful spot. A little noisy but quite pleasant. We had trouble with the lock on our travel trailer. The owner and his hired man spent over an hour helping us dismantle the lock so we could gain access other than through the emergency window. Thank you Thank you Thank you. Greatly appreciated their help!!!
Mar 04, 2024 · Robert HartI love it here.. you can stay permanently or you can come up for the weekends right near the lake can go swimming beautiful nature landscape quiet... The gentleman that owns this place is very nice and respectful and helpful if you need it.. I am glad I moved here.
Jun 17, 2024 · Darcey Henderson twiggTo use the word "resort" to describe this "campground" is an absolute fabrication. For starters, the website is extremely vague and I believe that's the intention of the owner, to avoid accountability. There is no cancelation policy listed. There are a few decent spots beside the lake which are the photos he uses on his website and charges $800 a month for. The other spots, he refers to as "lakeVIEW" spots, are way back away from the water, literally on a barren gravel lot. No trees, no picnic tables, no amenities of any kind, right beside the main road with no fence.. no privacy. These are $650 a month plus electric. He asks for an "electric" deposit up front, in the amount of $250, which I paid by card over the phone. Upon arriving there, we saw that the bad reviews were absolutely true and that the photos were misleading. My husband travels for his work and I come with him. We've been a lot of places but this was somewhere I just could not stay for 3 months. We tried calling the owner to speak to him and tell him we were not satisfied but got a voice-mail. We waited for 30 minutes and decided to just find another campground. Thankfully we found a spot at a real campground that has been absolutely fabulous. As with another poster, the lady in the office called me and said she would refund our money. After waiting several days for the refund, I spoke to her again and she said the owner will not refund our money. Again, the deposit we paid was for ELECTRIC... which we never used. After speaking with a few of the people at our current campground, we now know he does this to a lot of people. If you are looking for a campground in this area, please do not go by the pictures alone for this one. They are deceiving and very misleading. If you only need a place to sleep it would probably be OK. I'm a huge supporter of small businesses but I don't support people who have to be dishonest and scam people out of their money.I would not ever recommend this place to anyone.
