For local users searching for "camping near me," Lake Genero stands out as a destination that combines lakeside beauty with a range of outdoor activities and a hospitable environment.
The Environment: Lakeside Beauty and Wildlife Encounters
As its name suggests, Lake Genero Campground is situated directly on the shores of Lake Genero, providing campers with immediate access to the water and stunning lakeside views. The lake itself is noted for its fishing, with reports of good-sized perch and bass, making it an ideal destination for anglers. The serene environment of the lake offers a peaceful backdrop for camping and relaxation, allowing visitors to unwind and connect with nature.
Beyond Lake Genero, the campground's location is also advantageous for those interested in exploring other aquatic environments. The renowned Lake Wallenpaupack, a much larger lake known for its recreational activities, is located just a short drive away. Additionally, the area boasts several trout streams within a few minutes of the campground, offering diverse fishing opportunities for different preferences and skill levels. This proximity to various water bodies makes Lake Genero a prime location for water enthusiasts.
Nature lovers will also appreciate the abundance of wildlife in the area. According to a visitor's account, sightings of deer, a beaver, and even a bald eagle are not uncommon. This rich biodiversity enhances the camping experience, providing opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography. The surrounding forests and natural landscapes of northeastern Pennsylvania contribute to a sense of immersion in nature.
Services and Features: Welcoming Hosts and Unique Amenities
One of the frequently praised aspects of Lake Genero Campground is the hospitality of the camp owner. Described as a "gracious host" and "very accommodating," the owner appears to play a significant role in creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere for guests. This personal touch can greatly enhance the camping experience, making visitors feel more at home and well-cared for.
The campground demonstrates flexibility and a commitment to customer satisfaction, as highlighted by a review where the owner, Melissa, readily allowed a change of dates due to inclement weather. This level of accommodation and understanding can be particularly valuable for campers whose plans might be affected by unforeseen circumstances.
A unique and memorable feature mentioned by a visitor is the outdoor movie screenings. The experience of watching a favorite movie like "Adams Family" on a big screen while set up by the lake adds a fun and communal element to the camping experience. This type of amenity goes beyond basic camping facilities and provides an extra layer of entertainment for guests.
Lake Genero Campground is also reported to be dog-friendly, allowing campers to bring their canine companions along. This is a significant benefit for pet owners who enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors with their dogs. The willingness to accommodate pets further contributes to the welcoming and inclusive nature of the campground.
The allowance of bringing personal fire pits is another notable feature. Campfires are often a central part of the camping experience, and the freedom to use one's own fire pit can enhance comfort and enjoyment, allowing for personalized camp setups and cooking options (subject to any campground regulations regarding safety and burn bans).
The review mentioning having the property "mainly to ourselves" due to the colder weather suggests that the campground might be less crowded during the off-season, offering a more secluded and private experience for those who prefer it. However, the anticipation of returning in the summer by another visitor indicates that the campground is also a popular destination during warmer months.

Lake Genero Reviews
We had a wonderful time at lake Genero over the weekend on our annual fishing trip. The camp owner was a gracious host & very accommodating. The lake itself has some good size perch and bass. Lake Wallenpaupack is just down the road and there are several trout streams within a few minutes of the camp. Plenty of wildlife around, we saw deer, a beaver and a bald eagle. Can't wait to come back in the summer.
Apr 04, 2022 · BrianMy wife and I tried to find a weekend all summer to camp, we were finally setup for right after fall fest and boom rain showers. We asked if we could move the day and Melissa told us “no problem”!! So we went the following weekend and got all setup by the lake and watched one of our favorite movies Adams Family on the big screen! They were dog friendly, let us bring our own fire pit and we had the property to ourselves! (Mainly because it was cold lol) I highly recommend this place
Oct 24, 2021 · Michael KoenigsfestWe rented the pavilion for a birthday party and had a wonderful time! The pavilion was spacious, clean, and had the great “ extras” of electricity and even a fridge! We had plenty of room for all of our food and drinks as well as our guests. The property is clean and beautiful and the adults and kids enjoyed themselves with plenty of room! The bathrooms are another great feature and many of our guests were beyond complimentary of the space. We will certainly be keeping Lake Genero in mind for future events!! It also has beautiful new GLAMPING and camping sites, a must see for sure!Katy is super helpful and a pleasure to work with as well making the booking and rental process a breeze.
Jun 01, 2022 · Michelle VoglerHosted a Family Fun Day at Lake Genero. It was wonderful! Katy set up cornhole, volleyball, kickball & a ring toss for the kids. There's so much open space for the kids to run and the pavilion is great for families to gather. Thank you Lake Genero for the hospitality. Can't wait to host another event there!
Jul 09, 2022 · Dawn FalconeJust got back from 2 nights at Lake Genero. Everything was absolutely wonderful! The property is beautifully-maintained, and all the campsites are nice and spread out. Nobody is directly on top of each other like at some other campgrounds. There were only a few sites occupied, so Katy (the amazing property manager) let us pick a different site than we originally booked so we could have some more privacy. We rented a paddle boat, hiked around the area, and enjoyed the large pavilion when it rained. We will absolutely return to Lake Genero soon!
