Ledgedale Recreation Area Introduce
Hello, local adventurers looking for "camping near me"! Consider Ledgedale Recreation Area, situated at 263 Ledgedale Rd, Greentown, PA 18426, USA, and reachable by phone at (570) 689-2181 or mobile at +1 570-689-2181. Based on available customer reviews, Ledgedale Recreation Area offers access to the beautiful Lake Wallenpaupack and provides a mix of services and features that cater to lake enthusiasts and campers alike. Let's explore what this local recreation area has to offer for your next outdoor excursion.
The Environment: Lakeside Beauty on Lake Wallenpaupack
Ledgedale Recreation Area's primary environmental feature is its proximity to Lake Wallenpaupack, one of Pennsylvania's largest lakes. This location provides opportunities for various water-based activities and scenic lakeside views. While the reviews don't extensively detail the campground's natural surroundings beyond the lake access, the mention of kayakers enjoying a paddle up the creek suggests the presence of calmer waterways branching off the main lake, offering a different perspective of the environment. The overall area of Greentown, PA, is known for its natural beauty, being part of the Pocono Mountains region, so campers can likely expect a setting that includes woodlands and the picturesque landscape surrounding a large lake.
Services and Amenities: Focus on Lake Access and Basic Needs
The customer reviews provide some insights into the services and amenities offered at Ledgedale Recreation Area. These include:
- Marina Access: Notably, the campground allows kayakers to use their marina for no charge, which is a significant perk for paddling enthusiasts looking for "camping near me" with lake access.
- Boat Launch Ramp: There is a cement-paved boat launch ramp available for a $10 launch fee. However, the review notes that the ramp is steep and can be cramped, especially during busy holiday weekends. The access road to the ramp also has a steep decline, requiring careful brake management.
- Rig-Up Area: The area for rigging up boats near the ramp is described as cramped, suggesting that boaters should be prepared to launch quickly to avoid congestion.
- Trailer Parking: Parking for trailers is also reported to be very cramped, potentially requiring assistance to maneuver, especially with larger vehicles and trailers.
- Camp Store: The recreation area has a "cute store" with staff described as "the nicest," indicating a place to potentially purchase supplies or get information.
- Bathrooms: One review strongly advises avoiding the bathrooms, describing them as "the largest, most foul portapotti ever" without adequate odor control. This is a critical piece of information for potential campers to consider.
Based on this, the services seem to focus on providing lake access, particularly for boating and kayaking, along with a camp store for basic needs. However, the condition of the bathroom facilities appears to be a significant drawback mentioned by a reviewer.
Features and Activities: Lake Wallenpaupack at Your Doorstep
The primary feature of Ledgedale Recreation Area is its direct access to Lake Wallenpaupack, opening up a range of potential activities:
- Kayaking: The free marina use for kayakers is a notable feature, with a suggestion to paddle left up the creek to avoid larger boats and open water.
- Boating: The presence of a boat launch ramp, despite its challenges during busy times, allows for power boating on Lake Wallenpaupack.
- Fishing: Lake Wallenpaupack is known for its fishing opportunities, which would be accessible from Ledgedale Recreation Area.
- Lakeside Relaxation: While not explicitly mentioned, being near a large lake often provides opportunities for enjoying the scenery and a more relaxed pace.
The reviews do not mention specific campground amenities like hiking trails, picnic areas, or organized activities. The focus seems to be more on the access to the lake itself.
Promotional Information: Marina Use for Kayakers
The most explicit piece of promotional information from the reviews is that Ledgedale Recreation Area allows kayakers to use their marina for no charge. This is a significant benefit for local kayaking enthusiasts looking for easy access to Lake Wallenpaupack. There is no other promotional information available in the provided text regarding camping rates, special offers, or seasonal discounts. To inquire about camping fees, boat launch costs (beyond the mentioned $10), or any other potential promotions, contacting Ledgedale Recreation Area directly via phone at (570) 689-2181 or +1 570-689-2181 would be necessary.
Why Choose Ledgedale Recreation Area?
For local users searching for "camping near me" with a strong emphasis on lake access, particularly to Lake Wallenpaupack, Ledgedale Recreation Area presents a viable option. The free marina use for kayakers is a definite plus. If you plan to launch a boat, be aware of the reported challenges with the steep ramp, cramped rigging area, and trailer parking, especially during busy times. The friendly staff at the store is a noted positive. However, the significant concern raised about the bathroom facilities should be taken into consideration. If lake activities are your priority and you are prepared for the potential limitations mentioned in the reviews, Ledgedale Recreation Area could be a convenient local choice. We recommend calling them directly to get more details about camping options and to make an informed decision based on your needs and preferences.

Ledgedale Recreation Area Reviews
They have a cute store with the nicest staff. They let kayakers use their marina for no charge. A great paddle if you turn left and go up the creek and avoid the big boats and the big water.
Sep 05, 2022 · Maryann RossiRamp Review:Holiday weekend.Steep decline on access road. Brakes will become very hot if not managed properly.Cramped, steep, cement paved ramp.$10 launch fee...not bad imo.Rig up area cramped. Be ready to go when you get in the line or impatient boaters may "encourage" you to hurry since there is little room to go around.Trailer parking very cramped. I needed assistance to exit parking slot in order to not impact other vehicles. (Full size pickup and 24ft trailer). After rerieve, little room to park for securing gear and prepping for road travel.Employees in the camp store are friendly.Bathrooms are to be avoided.Imagine the largest, most foul portapotti ever, then remove the chemical treatments that control odor. Environmentally necessary setup, but only for the stout of heart and those with head congestion/seasonal allergies😉.All in all, good ramp if you can avoid the busiest weekends launch/retrieve times.
Sep 06, 2020 · Steve LGreat place to dump the boat in the water for $10. They offer fuel and a small camping store with just the basics. Be careful on the weekends as there is limited parking and half of the nitwits from New York and New Jersey are there attempting to back up a trailer when they have a hard enough time just driving forward.
Jul 04, 2021 · M SLove this place! We parked our RV there and docked the boat for a couple of weeks this past summer. Jennifer and Stephanie are so nice and accommodating, as is the whole family at Ledgedale. The camp sites are clean and well kept and the bathrooms are also nicely kept. I have a big 27' boat so a good ramp is important to me. Ledgedale has 2 side by side ramps so there is really never too long of a wait and they are nicely sloped and easy to launch off. The cove the marina sits in is so calm you barely need to tie up your boat! The biggest drawback is the proximity to town as it is located about 20 minutes from the village of Wilsonville, but that may be what some people are looking for! A nice place to visit and great boating on Lake Wally.
Oct 09, 2019 · Chad CollesianThe water was low, today. Possibly drained for the winter. This made this spot even more fun because you can now see and play on the huge boulders that are usually covered by water!! I still saw people in small boats, so I think fishing might still be okay.
