Was on the way home and picked this place because it looked close to highway on map. Though it is only a half mile from the highway as the crow files, it is over 5 miles down a winding road that actually crosses over I-20 TWICE. Got to the office a few minutes after 4pm and it was locked, all lights off, but the was a clerk inside who opened up and let me check in. Staff were friendly and helpful. This is the ONLY time I've ever appreciated having an escort to my site because the roads inside the park are treacherous. Definitely would not want to navigate my trailer in here at night or if it was rainy or icy. The whole park is built on a slope down to the lake. Roads can be steep and there are lots of twists and turns. The hill climbing out was so steep I had to drop into low gear. Our site was tiny. We barely got our 30ft trailer onto the site. We had to park the truck sort of sideways with the back wheels on the concrete deck. We didn't even get a picnic table. Have never had a site that didn't come with a picnic table. Smaller pool looks nice. The water level in large pool is 3ft below pumps, pool is green and dirty and has damage and looks permanently closed. Laundry has only 2 dryers for 5 washers so there is always a wait. The only bathrooms/showers are either next to laundry or all the way down at clubhouse. No trash cans and only 1 dumpster for whole park. At $29 with my discount this is the cheapest KOA we've been to. And sadly, the park is only worth about that. It looks like they are in the process of rebuilding some decks, and they've just run new power lines over to the old, abandoned tennis/pickle ball court. So maybe they are trying to fix the place up. I was going to give them 2 stars but when I discovered a laminated sign at the clubhouse announcing weekly cult meetings I opted for 1 star. Plus, the place is a little scary. There are extremists that live along the road leading here, as well as at least two extremists who live here. Will not be back. Lake Oconee / Greensboro KOA Holiday Introduce

If you're searching for "camping near me" in the vicinity of Greensboro, Georgia, the Lake Oconee / Greensboro KOA Holiday, located at 2541 Carey Station Rd, Greensboro, GA 30642, USA, presents a lakeside camping option with a range of reported experiences. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground offers both appealing aspects, such as waterfront campsites and friendly staff, alongside certain challenges related to its layout and some of its amenities. It's crucial for local users to consider these varied perspectives when evaluating this KOA for their camping needs.

One reviewer noted that while the campground appears close to the highway on a map, the actual driving distance is over five miles via a winding road that crosses Interstate 20 twice. This suggests that accessibility might take longer than initially perceived, a factor local users should consider when planning their arrival, especially after hours. The same reviewer experienced arriving shortly after the listed office closing time but was able to check in thanks to a clerk still present, highlighting a degree of flexibility in staffing.

A significant point of caution raised by one guest concerns the internal roads within the park. They strongly advised against navigating with a trailer at night or in adverse weather conditions, describing the roads as "treacherous" with steep slopes and numerous twists and turns. This is a critical consideration for RV owners and those towing trailers, as maneuvering within the campground might be challenging, particularly for larger rigs. The hilly terrain, sloping down towards the lake, contributes to these potentially difficult driving conditions, with the ascent out of the park also being steep enough to require low gear in some vehicles.

Site sizes appear to be a point of variability. One reviewer with a 30-foot trailer described their assigned site as "tiny," barely accommodating their RV and requiring the truck to be parked sideways, partially on the concrete deck. Furthermore, this site lacked a picnic table, an amenity typically expected at campgrounds. In contrast, another reviewer who stayed on a waterfront campsite for two and a half weeks specifically mentioned having a deck and a picnic table, suggesting that site quality and amenities can differ significantly based on location within the park.

The condition of the swimming pools also presents a mixed picture. A smaller pool was described as looking nice, while the larger pool's water level was significantly below the pumps, appearing green, dirty, damaged, and seemingly permanently closed. This discrepancy in pool conditions is an important factor for campers looking to enjoy swimming facilities during their stay.

Laundry facilities are available, but one reviewer noted a potential bottleneck with only two dryers for five washers, leading to potential wait times. This is a practical consideration for longer stays or for those needing to do laundry during their camping trip.

Bathroom and shower facilities are reportedly located either near the laundry area or at the clubhouse, which might mean limited or less conveniently located options depending on a camper's site within the park. Additionally, the reviewer noted a lack of trash cans throughout the park, with only one dumpster available for the entire campground. This could impact the convenience of waste disposal for campers.

Despite these challenges, the reviewer who detailed these issues mentioned that at $29 with their discount, this was the cheapest KOA they had ever stayed at, suggesting a potentially budget-friendly option for those willing to overlook some of the shortcomings. They also observed ongoing maintenance efforts, such as the rebuilding of some decks and the installation of new power lines to an old tennis/pickleball court, indicating that the management might be in the process of upgrading the facilities.

However, a significant concern raised by the same reviewer was the presence of a laminated sign at the clubhouse announcing weekly meetings of what they perceived as a "cult." This, coupled with their feeling that the place was "a little scary" due to reported extremists living along the road and within the campground, led them to express that they would not return. This is a serious consideration regarding the overall atmosphere and sense of safety at the campground.

In contrast, another reviewer who stayed on a waterfront site had a much more positive experience. They highlighted the great location on the water, complete with a deck and picnic table. They, along with their two dogs, enjoyed their two-and-a-half-week stay, appreciating the proximity to the laundry mat and the campground's suitability for walking themselves and their dogs. They also noted the presence of a dog park, a significant amenity for pet owners. This reviewer found all the staff to be "very welcoming & friendly!!" providing a stark contrast to the other reviewer's overall impression.

The conflicting reviews paint a complex picture of the Lake Oconee / Greensboro KOA Holiday. While some guests have experienced issues with the internal roads, site size, condition of some amenities (like the large pool), and have raised concerns about the general atmosphere, others have enjoyed the waterfront locations, pet-friendly features (dog park), and the friendliness of the staff.

For local users considering this "camping near me" option, it would be prudent to weigh these contrasting experiences. If a waterfront site with a deck and picnic table is a priority, and the presence of a dog park is beneficial, the positive review suggests a potentially enjoyable stay. However, those with larger RVs or trailers should be aware of the potential challenges with internal roads and site sizes. The condition of the pools might also be a deciding factor for some.

Given the concerns raised about the overall atmosphere and safety by one reviewer, local users might want to inquire directly with the campground management about these issues and any measures being taken to address them. It's also worth asking about the availability and condition of specific amenities, such as picnic tables for all sites and the status of the large pool.

In conclusion, Lake Oconee / Greensboro KOA Holiday offers a lakeside setting that some visitors have found to be "great," particularly those in waterfront sites. The campground also provides amenities like laundry facilities and a dog park, and the staff has been described as welcoming and friendly by some. However, potential drawbacks include challenging internal roads, variable site sizes and amenities, the poor condition of the large pool, and concerns raised about the overall atmosphere and safety. Local users seeking "camping near me" should carefully consider these mixed reviews and potentially contact the campground directly for the most up-to-date information before making a reservation.
