Lake Thomas Campground Introduce
For those in the Colville, Washington area and beyond searching for 'camping near me' that offers a blend of natural beauty, tranquility, and access to outdoor recreation, Lake Thomas Campground, located in Colville, WA 99114, appears to be an excellent choice based on enthusiastic customer reviews. This campground has been highly recommended for its clean and scenic environment, making it an appealing destination for various types of campers seeking a peaceful retreat.
The environment of Lake Thomas Campground is consistently described as "clean, quiet and scenic." This suggests that visitors can expect well-maintained grounds, a peaceful atmosphere conducive to relaxation, and beautiful natural surroundings. The presence of "great trails within the camp area and the nearby recreational areas" indicates ample opportunities for hiking and exploring the local landscape. This would appeal to those who enjoy immersing themselves in nature and engaging in outdoor activities directly from their campsite or within a short distance.
Lake Thomas itself is a central feature of the campground, offering opportunities for water-based activities. Reviewers mention the lake's beauty and the abundance of fish, making it a potentially excellent spot for anglers. However, one reviewer noted a concern regarding "motorized boat and wave runner traffic on the lake," particularly on a smaller lake. The speed of these watercraft was mentioned as a potential concern for those using canoes, kayaks, and swimmers. While this didn't deter the reviewer from wanting to return, it is a factor for those prioritizing a completely serene lake experience to consider. It suggests that while the lake is beautiful and offers recreation, it might experience periods of activity from motorized water sports.
In terms of amenities and services, the reviews provide some valuable insights. One reviewer praised the "very nice level camping spots, with clean table areas and nice firepits." Level campsites are crucial for comfortable RV and tent setups, and the provision of clean table areas and firepits enhances the camping experience, allowing for convenient outdoor cooking and gathering around a campfire (during appropriate seasons). The reviewer also highlighted the "outhouses" as being "very clean and pleasant to use," which is a significant factor for many campers. Additionally, the presence of "bear proof" refuse areas indicates a focus on safety and responsible waste management, particularly important in areas where wildlife may be present. The availability of "fresh/potable water nearby" is another essential service that contributes to a comfortable and safe camping experience.
One interesting point raised by a reviewer concerns downed trees, which were not allowed to be used as firewood according to the camp host, citing government regulations related to tidiness. While this was a minor point of frustration for the reviewer, it also suggests that the campground operates under certain environmental guidelines and prioritizes a specific aesthetic, even if it means leaving potential firewood unused. This might indicate a well-managed campground that adheres to regulations aimed at preserving the natural environment.
A significant feature mentioned in one of the reviews is the proximity and quality of the "Beaver Lodge Resort." This nearby establishment is described as "excellent" and provides both "a quick grocery grab" and "a restaurant with some great and friendly staff." This is a significant advantage for campers at Lake Thomas Campground, offering convenient access to essential supplies and dining options without having to travel far from the campsite. This amenity can greatly enhance the overall camping experience, providing convenience and a break from camp cooking if desired.
The reviews collectively paint a picture of Lake Thomas Campground as a peaceful and pleasant destination, ideal for unwinding in a scenic environment. The combination of natural beauty, clean facilities, and access to both lake activities and hiking trails makes it appealing to a variety of outdoor enthusiasts. The proximity to Beaver Lodge Resort adds a layer of convenience that is often highly valued by campers.

The fact that one reviewer explicitly states, "Overall, I would highly recommend this campground," and another says, "We will be back again!" serves as strong implicit endorsements. The recommendation from a friend without hesitation further underscores the positive reputation of Lake Thomas Campground.
For local users searching for 'camping near me' in the Colville, WA area, Lake Thomas Campground appears to be a highly recommended option offering a blend of natural beauty, recreational activities, and convenient amenities. While the potential for motorized watercraft activity on the lake is a point to consider for those seeking absolute serenity on the water, the overall positive feedback regarding the cleanliness, scenery, trails, and nearby Beaver Lodge Resort suggests a rewarding camping experience. The campground operates on a "pay-to-stay" basis, so potential visitors should be prepared with a checkbook or cash, as mentioned by one reviewer.

Lake Thomas Campground Reviews
This campground recommendation was given to us by a friend who without hesitation said "you've got to camp there!". It was an excellent suggestion, a campground with a clean, quiet and scenic environment. Great trails within the camp area and the nearby recreational areas. Our only concern was the motorized boat and wave runner traffic on the lake, it being a smaller lake and the speed at which those boats and wave runners were cause for concern with canoes, kayaks and swimmers. Not enough to turn us away, but something to be considered if that worries you. We will be back again! Peaceful, pleasant and unwinding! Additionally, the Beaver Lodge Resort is excellent too, providing both a quick grocery grab and a restaurant with some great and friendly staff.
Aug 11, 2023 · Chris WherityI have mixed feelings about reviewing this campground. On one hand, I want everyone to enjoy it's beauty and amenities. On the other hand, I hate to see it become overly crowded, due to positive reviews. Anyway, it's great! Very nice level camping spots, with clean table areas and nice firepits (for the short season we get to actually use them). The outhouses are very clean and pleasant to use, refuse areas are bear proof and fresh/potable water is nearby. The lake is beautiful, but over zealous jet skiers can hamper the serenity of the lake. Tons of fish to be caught and wildlife commonly visit you. My one negative is that there are a lot of downed trees that I would saw up and use as camp firewood, which that isn't allowed, according to the camp host. To me, it is a tidyness issue that is government controlled and out of my hands, still a bit of an eyesore. Overall, I would highly recommend this campground. It is a pay-to-stay, so bring your checkbook or cash, and enjoy the majestic forest above your tent.
Jul 21, 2024 · Todd HansenWe took our canoe up to lake Thomas to meet up with my son who was camping. There are 4 separate lakes, all connected by a channel of water between each, so you can paddle between all four. Motorized boats and skidoos are allowed. We had success in fishing with trout and perch caught and we release. The campsite caretakers are friendly. The campsites are clean and sheltered beneath the pines with trails to the lake itself. There is a boat launching area with a dock. Close by is a more formal privately owned campground where you can get phone service and electric plugins if your not into roughing it. There is no cell service in the campground my son stayed in. So if you want to get away from it all, this is the place. It's about two hours out of Spokane.
Jun 05, 2018 · Heidi HartnettWe stayed at number 9 and it was perfect, nice and shady with nice water access! It is a bit of a hike to get to the water. Lots of trails, beach area, private and near by store.
