Lakeside Fire Campground Introduce
For local residents searching within the "camping near me" category, Lakeside Fire Campground, located at 14014 County Rd Z, Nekoosa, WI 54457, USA, presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. While significant improvements have been noted in the campground's physical condition, some concerns regarding staff attitude and policies have also been raised. Potential visitors should consider these points when evaluating this local camping option.
One recent review indicates a substantial turnaround in the campground's upkeep. A camper who had a negative experience three years prior, describing it as a "dump" with "uneven sites, garbage everywhere, gross bathrooms, nasty lily pad filled water," revisited the location and acknowledged "tremendous" improvements. They noted that "the sites are level, the place has been cleaned up and looks nice." This suggests that the management has taken steps to address previous issues related to cleanliness and site maintenance, which is a positive development for prospective local campers.
However, the same reviewer expressed significant dissatisfaction with the attitude of the staff, describing them as "rude, demeaning and short." Specific mention was made of a "teenager in particular with curly hair and braces" who was perceived as overbearing and inconsistent in enforcing the campground's 5mph speed limit. The reviewer recounted an incident where this staff member sped past them in a golf cart at a much higher speed upon their departure. Such inconsistencies in rule enforcement can detract from the overall camping experience and create a sense of unfairness.
The policies of the campground also drew criticism. The requirement to "wear wristbands at all times all weekend" as proof of payment was viewed negatively by the reviewer, who felt it suggested a lack of trust and an excessive focus on money. Additionally, the unexpected placement of their campsite next to a "golf cart race" on Saturday night, without prior notification or the option to choose a different location, was a point of concern. This highlights the importance for potential campers to inquire about planned events or activities that might impact their stay and campsite location.
Another incident involved a discrepancy during a bingo game, where the reviewer felt overcharged for the cards and received an unsatisfactory response when questioning it. This further contributed to the reviewer's overall impression of a "money hungry" environment where customer service might be lacking in certain areas.
It is important to note that another review offers a contrasting perspective. This camper stated that they "go very often" and enjoy the "pool pond" and memorable activities. They praised the staff as "awesome" and mentioned that their children have a great time. This reviewer also highlighted that "the owners are constantly making improvements and always making sure everything is good." This positive feedback suggests that some visitors have had consistently enjoyable experiences at Lakeside Fire Campground, appreciating the amenities and the efforts of the owners.
The presence of a "pool pond" mentioned in the positive review indicates a significant amenity that could be attractive to families and individuals looking for water-based recreation during their camping trip. The reference to "activities" suggests that the campground may organize events or programs for campers, potentially enhancing the overall experience, especially for those traveling with children. The ongoing improvements mentioned by this frequent visitor are also a positive sign, aligning with the other reviewer's observation of significant cleanup and site leveling.
To gain a balanced understanding of Lakeside Fire Campground, local users within the "camping near me" category should consider both the positive and negative feedback. The campground appears to have made considerable strides in improving its physical infrastructure. However, potential campers should be aware of the reported issues regarding staff attitude and certain policies. It would be prudent to inquire about these aspects directly when contacting the campground.
When calling (715) 886-3871 or +1 715-886-3871, local users should ask specific questions about the current state of the campsites and facilities, the typical behavior and policies of the staff, the schedule of any planned activities or events during their potential stay, and the rules regarding wristbands and speed limits. Inquiring about the pool and pond, as well as other amenities such as restroom and shower facilities, fire pits, and picnic tables, is also recommended.
Promotional information is not provided in the given reviews. Therefore, local users should directly ask about any special offers, discounts for local residents, or seasonal rates that might be available. It's also worth inquiring about the campsite booking process and any specific guidelines or rules that campers need to be aware of before making a reservation.
In conclusion, Lakeside Fire Campground in Nekoosa, WI, as a "camping near me" option, presents a situation where significant improvements in the physical campground are evident, but concerns have been raised regarding staff demeanor and certain policies. The presence of amenities like a pool and pond, along with organized activities, could be appealing to many. Local users are strongly advised to contact the campground directly at (715) 886-3871 or +1 715-886-3871 to gather the most current and detailed information to determine if this campground meets their expectations for a local camping experience.

Lakeside Fire Campground Reviews
We were here 3 years ago and it was a dump. Uneven sites, garbage everywhere, gross bathrooms, nasty lily pad filled water. We vowed to never come back. This year, we decided to book a campsite because our friend is a seasonal. The campground has improved tremendously which is why you are getting one star. The sites are level, the place has been cleaned up and looks nice. The attitude of the staff is rude, demeaning and short. There is one teenager in particular with curly hair and braces that thinks she owns the place. She was constantly running around yelling at people to slow down because they have a ridiculous 5mph speed limit. We camp about 20 times a year all over Wisconsin and the policies at this campground made us laugh. You have to wear wristbands at all times all weekend so that they know you paid and they check. This screams desperate and money hungry to me. When we were leaving, a golf cart sped past us at the exit going about 50 mph. Guess who it was! The snotty teenager that yelled at everyone all weekend long! We told her to slow down it's 5mph! She just smiled and waved at us. I forgot to mention that they set us up right next to a golf cart race that they had on Saturday night. It would have been cool to have the choice to watch it or not but we didn't as it was right in front of us. I played bingo on Saturday. I was under the impression that it was .50 a card. The lady that collected the money collected 1.00 from me every time for my 2 cards. At the end of the games I realized it was really .25 a game. So I said something to the lady that collected the money. She shrugged her shoulders and walked away. Not that 3.50 is a huge deal but it's shady that she collected the money from me every game and didn't say anything. But then again this place screams money hungry and they don't care as long as they collect. In response to the response from management:What is your explanation for your employees breaking the rules and zipping around on golf carts 20 mph and higher? That's allowed?
Aug 25, 2024 · Jen SattlerI go very often. we enjoy the pool pond. The activities are definitely something to remember. The staff is awesome. Our kids have a blast. And the owners are constantly making improvements and always making sure everything is good.
Aug 27, 2024 · Sarah SenourstehbergerHonestly I loved our stay. Bathrooms were nice showers are free!!! Pool was clean and they provided shade! The lake was amazing I love that they provided life jackets at the lake and especially love the site location we had. The only thing I would do different is activities. I would at least have a free option for crafts. And maybe a few other non cost activities but other than that i absolutely enjoyed it.
Sep 03, 2024 · kami stubbeWe really enjoyed our stay at Lakeside Fire Campground. We rented two pull sites for our group. We were greeted by very friendly staff upon check in. They were very helpful and escorted us to our sites. The lots were spacious and level. The entire weekend was filled with numerous planned activities by the campground. We felt there was really something for everyone to enjoy. Our older kids really enjoyed the inflatables on the lake and mini golf. We highly recommend this campground if you are looking for a family-friendly campground. We can't express our gratitude at how helpful and nice everyone we encountered was. It didn't matter if you were a seasonal or a weekender. Thats rare and something to be proud of!
Sep 03, 2024 · Melissa ShiplerCampsites are a decent size for every camper or RV that comes in. The pond for swimming always a hit for everyone, the pool a hit for the little ones. When the ice cream hut is open it is a good place to get a snack and a little extra for the adults. Walking around campground is a nice relaxing time. The staff is friendly and happy to help with questions. The shop they have to purchase things is small and not much there. They for have appeal, ice, wood, small toys for kids, and some other odds and ends. This is a great place to camp. I would recommend it to anyone.
