Lazy Acres Campground Introduce
If you're searching for "camping near me" in the Derry, Pennsylvania area, Lazy Acres Campground, located at 199 Slag Rd, Derry, PA 15627, USA, presents a local option with mixed reviews from recent visitors. To provide an objective introduction for local users, it's essential to consider both the positive and negative feedback to give a balanced view of what this campground might offer.
One positive aspect frequently mentioned in the reviews is the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners, Gail and Rich. One camper who needed a last-minute spot reported that they were accommodated and given a corner lot. This visitor also appreciated the owners' concern for children's safety and their accessibility for any needs that arose during the stay. The willingness of the owners to allow a camper to cut down branches that were interfering with their camper demonstrates a degree of flexibility and consideration for their guests.
Another significant convenience highlighted by a returning visitor is the presence of a store on the campground premises. This store allows campers to purchase essentials such as firewood and drinks, as well as other items they might need for their campers. Having a store on-site can be particularly beneficial for those who prefer not to leave the campground for basic supplies, adding to the overall convenience of the stay. The campground's proximity to home was also noted as a positive for a local camper, making it an easily accessible getaway.
However, it's crucial to address the concerns raised by another recent visitor who had a less favorable experience. This camper stayed in early April during a period of rainy weather, which significantly impacted the site conditions. The site was described as "so wet and muddy" that boots were necessary outdoors, and there was a persistent issue of sinking into the mud. This suggests that during wet seasons, the ground conditions at some sites might be less than ideal.
The same reviewer also reported finding trash at the entrance of their site upon arrival, which they had to clean up themselves. This raises questions about the thoroughness of site preparation between campers. Additionally, concerns were expressed about the water quality, which was described as brown and smelling like river water. This led the camper to avoid showering and rely on bottled water for all purposes, including brushing teeth. The explanation given was that the water had recently been turned back on in the bathhouse, which had not yet been cleaned. While the bathroom was reportedly usable, the showers were not recommended due to their condition. The reviewer's assessment was that the bathhouse would require significant cleaning to be brought back to an acceptable standard.
Another issue encountered by this visitor was their placement next to a camper with a large dog that barked constantly at them and their dog through the window. This highlights a potential lack of buffer or consideration in site assignments, which could impact the peace and quiet of other campers, especially those with their own pets. The reviewer also made subjective observations about the appearance of many of the long-term campers and the overall attractiveness of the campground, suggesting that the aesthetic might not appeal to all visitors.
Despite these negative experiences, the free WiFi was noted as the only positive aspect by this particular reviewer. However, this single amenity was not enough to outweigh the significant issues encountered, leading to a strong recommendation against the campground and a vow not to return.
Considering these contrasting reviews, Lazy Acres Campground in Derry, PA, appears to be a location with friendly and accommodating owners and the convenience of an on-site store. It also seems to be a place where some campers have found a welcoming and enjoyable experience, particularly those who have established a longer-term connection. However, potential visitors should be aware of the potential for muddy conditions during wet periods, possible issues with water quality and bathhouse cleanliness, and the proximity to other campers, including those with pets. The overall aesthetic of the campground might also be a consideration for some.
For local users searching for "camping near me," Lazy Acres Campground offers a location in Derry, PA, with some basic amenities like free WiFi and a store, and owners who are reported to be nice and helpful. It might be a suitable option for those prioritizing these aspects and who are perhaps familiar with the campground or are looking for a last-minute spot. However, it would be prudent to inquire about the current conditions, particularly regarding the water and bathhouse facilities, especially if cleanliness is a high priority. If you are camping during a potentially rainy season, it might also be wise to ask about site drainage and potential mud issues.
To learn more about Lazy Acres Campground and to make reservations, you can contact them at (724) 668-8067 or +1 724-668-8067. When calling, it would be advisable to ask specific questions based on the concerns raised in the reviews, such as the current status of the bathhouse facilities, the source and quality of the water, and the layout of the campsites in relation to long-term residents and pets. Understanding the campground's policies on site maintenance and pet management might also be beneficial.
In conclusion, Lazy Acres Campground in Derry, PA, presents a mixed picture based on recent reviews. While the friendly owners and convenient store are definite positives, potential campers should be aware of reported issues with muddy sites, water quality, and bathhouse cleanliness. It is recommended that local users seeking "camping near me" contact the campground directly to get the most up-to-date information and to determine if it meets their specific needs and preferences.

Lazy Acres Campground Reviews
Worst campground we have camped at so far. We camped here in early April and it was a rainy week/weekend. The site was so wet and muddy! We had to wear boots outside and we just kept sinking in the mud. There was trash at the entrance of our site that my husband cleaned up. The water was brown and smelled like river water. We didn’t shower at all and used bottled water for everything including brushing our teeth. I was told the water was just turned back on in the bathhouse and they weren’t cleaned yet. We could still use the bathroom but not the showers if we wanted. I walked in just to check it out and there is not enough cleaning that could be done to get that bathhouse back in order. Due to the time of year we went the campground was pretty quiet but we were placed right next to a camper with a huge dog in it and he barked constantly at us and our dog through the window. Most campers there are old and look pretty beat and sketchy (if you know what I’m hinting at) so it’s not an attractive campground at all. The only positive was free WiFi. I would not recommend this campground and will never go back.
Apr 28, 2025 · Kristin KelleyGail and rich are very nice people.I needed a spot bad last year and I got one last minute for me and my kids.I got a corner lot and was very lucky to get that. They really care about children safety and I think that’s very important.Anytime I needed anything I was able to talk to them.I needed to cut branches down because they were almost hitting my camper and they were completely okay with it.As a land owner if someone was going to do something I would want to know to to give the go ahead. This is my second year there and I couldn’t be more happy. My kids love it there. You can also buy firewood and drinks or whatever you need for your camper at the store.Very convenient and close to home.I love it there
Mar 04, 2024 · Shane StoneSuper quiet campground located at Keystone state park. The only negative is that the water is not drinkable. The sediments stained our ceramic toilet and shower brown. We couldn't even give the water to our dogs, else they'd get sick. We had to get the five gallon jugs from Walmart for all of us to drink. We could use the "tap" water for showers and dishes and laundry but even then, we didn't like it. The monthly rate wasn't too bad at all considering the water problem. Electric, sewer and water were all inclusive. The park owners were very kind. And the park kitties were super cute! Lots of beautiful wildlife around, too: groundhogs, pheasants, deer, raccoons and bears! Close to Latrobe (about 15 minutes).
Feb 20, 2020 · Wendy Walkabout Ellisroads are horrible, no lighting at all, no bathhouses to take a shower, someone called to complain about me speeding in the campground i was doing 7! speed limit is 5! to try to get ahold of them to book is hard as hell to get ahold of, oh u can get a cable hookup only if ur a seasonal , what kind are of bullshit is that? never again!water smells horrible like iron also
Sep 01, 2024 · Bill BairdNot a true campsite! Very open. Loud and rude customer service. There is little to no privacy and campers are treated with disrespect by the owners. I've never experienced such horrific customer service in my life. Unless you want to be spied on during your stay, go elsewhere. They enjoy taking reservations and trying to move.people in and out quickly to keep their money or to get more money in. Little to no shade, must walk or drive to lake. Owners are often witnessed looking insider resident RVs from the outside and or making up stories. Bathrooms smell like sewage and are gross. I DO NOT recommend. RUN AWAY if you seem privacy
