Little Big Creek Horse Camp Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me," Little Big Creek Horse Camp, located at 15 Big Crk Pk Rd, Waynesville, NC 28785, USA, offers a unique blend of rustic camping with specific amenities, particularly appealing to those traveling with horses or seeking a functional base for exploring the natural beauty of the area. Based on the available customer reviews, this location provides more than just a place to camp; it's a gateway to rivers, trails, and a peaceful environment.
One traveler, passing through between Knoxville and Asheville, found Little Big Creek Horse Camp just two miles off I-40. This convenient access for those on a journey also makes it easily reachable for locals seeking a nearby escape. This reviewer highlighted several key features: the availability of 120V power, covered tie stalls for horses (though they opted to stake out), water for horses, a covered picnic area, a fire pit, and a vault toilet. These amenities suggest a functional setup catering to both campers and equestrians. They also noted that the campground was in the process of replacing its fencing. An interesting point was the "giant" gate, which, due to recent rain, led them to back in their vehicle to avoid potentially getting stuck while turning around, indicating that while accessible, the terrain might be influenced by weather conditions.
A significant feature mentioned was that they "rent to one party at a time," providing a sense of exclusivity and privacy as no one else was on-site during their stay. At $15 per night, it was also considered affordable. The reviewer recommended finding them on Facebook for more information. Describing the camp as "rustic, but very functional," they also noted that in warmer weather, the sound of the nearby river would be conducive to a peaceful night's sleep. While they heard about excellent nearby trails, they didn't have time to explore them, hinting at the recreational opportunities in the vicinity.
Another reviewer expressed a deep personal connection to "Big Creek," stating they have been visiting since childhood and that their parents even got married there. This long-standing positive association speaks volumes about the area's appeal. They specifically mentioned that "Big Creek is a great place to camp, swim, picnic, hike, or all of the above!" Their favorite activity is swimming right below the bridge, and they recommended a short hike to "midnight hole" as another great swimming spot. This reviewer clearly considers Big Creek one of their "happy places," underscoring its value as a local recreational area.
Combining these insights, the environment of Little Big Creek Horse Camp and the surrounding Big Creek area is characterized by its natural beauty, including a creek or river with swimming holes, and likely access to trails suitable for hiking (and potentially horseback riding, given the name). The mention of being near I-40 suggests it's relatively accessible, while still being far enough to enjoy a more natural setting. The presence of a river implies the potential for pleasant sounds and a refreshing atmosphere.

Little Big Creek Horse Camp Reviews
Headed east to the Fayetteville area, we were looking for a place to stop for the night along I-40 between Knoxville and Asheville. We found Little Big Creek Horse Camp on google. It's 2 miles off 40, they have power (120v), covered tie stalls (we staked out) water for horses, a covered picnic area, fire pit, and vault toilet. They were in the process of replacing their fencing. The gate is giant but because of the amount of rain they've had, we decided to back in so I didn't risk getting stuck turning around. They rent to one party at a time, so no one else was on site. $15/night. You can find them on FB. It's rustic, but very functional. If it was warmer out, it would be an awesome place to leave windows open and have the sound of the river lul you to sleep. We hear there's excellent trails nearby but we didn't have time to ride.
Jan 29, 2023 · Kelli ABig Creek has a special place in my heart. I've been coming here since I was a little kid. My parents got married there. Big Creek is a great place to camp, swim, picnic, hike, or all of the above! I mostly swim at big creek right below the bridge. If you take a short hike the midnight hole is a great spot to swim as well. I love this place. It is one of my happy places.
May 26, 2018 · Roxanna CouickFound this gem if a swim hole. Right next to the camp. Such a beautiful area for a picnic, camping, hiking, kayaking, and anything else.
May 26, 2019 · Sheree NanceVery pretty location near Big Creek. The sound of the creek will lull you to sleep. All sites are shady and fairly easy for larger rigs to park. Stock water and potable water are in the area. There is a bathroom in camp.
Apr 17, 2017 · Ken CarpenterWonderful atmosphere. Went on a hike here - it was beautiful. The only downsides were limited parking and the trail not being marked along the way. It was awesome though
