The environment at Pigeon River Campground is frequently lauded by guests. The tent spots are situated right on the river, offering not only stunning views but also easy access to its refreshing waters. The river is described as crystal clear and having a perfect temperature for swimming, making it a natural amenity that many campers thoroughly enjoy. Beyond the river, the campground boasts a beautiful bamboo forest. The natural sounds emanating from this forest at night are described as the "perfect music to fall asleep to," highlighting the tranquil and immersive natural ambiance of the location.
In terms of services and facilities, Pigeon River Campground appears well-equipped to cater to its guests. It features private bathrooms that are consistently reported as clean, along with nice showers. For those staying in tents, access to these clean facilities is a significant advantage. The campground also has a store on-site that stocks all the basic necessities you might need during your camping trip, adding convenience and ensuring you don't have to travel far for essential items.
One of the standout features of Pigeon River Campground is the exceptional helpfulness of the staff. Multiple reviewers praised the management and staff, noting their extensive knowledge of the local area and their willingness to go above and beyond to assist campers. One reviewer recounted how the staff provided valuable insights into local trails, often suggesting alternatives that turned out to be "the coolest trails I went on." They are described as being ready to help with any needs, either by providing assistance directly or pointing campers in the right direction. This level of personalized and helpful service can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, making visitors feel well-cared for and informed.
For those seeking recreational activities, Pigeon River Campground is ideally located for whitewater rafting on what is described as "one of the biggest rafting rivers in America." This proximity offers an exciting adventure opportunity for thrill-seekers and adds another layer of appeal to staying at Pigeon River Campground.
While the majority of the feedback is overwhelmingly positive, one reviewer did mention a restroom issue. They noted that while the restrooms were very clean and loved, there was an issue with tent campers sometimes using their assigned restrooms for electricity, such as charging phones and blowing up mattresses, leading to other campers feeling rushed or unable to access the facilities. This seems to have been perceived as potentially an isolated incident, as the reviewer still gave the campground a 5-star rating and indicated they would definitely return. It's worth noting that this feedback suggests that while the facilities are clean, their usage by all types of campers might occasionally lead to inconvenience.
Another reviewer mentioned the proximity to the highway but stated that despite normally disliking such locations, they would stay again, particularly at site G. They enjoyed the "white water rattling next door," suggesting that some sites might offer a unique auditory experience from nearby rafting activities. This indicates that even the location near a highway might not detract from the overall enjoyment for many, especially if the specific site offers other appealing aspects.
In addition to tent and RV camping, one reviewer mentioned considering renting one of the cabins at Pigeon River Campground. This suggests that the campground also offers cabin rentals as an accommodation option, catering to those who prefer a more solid structure and additional amenities compared to tent camping. Local users searching for "camping near me" who desire cabin lodging should inquire about the availability and features of these rentals.

Pigeon River Campground Reviews
This campground is amazing! I spent 11 days hiking and camping here and enjoyed every one of them. I really hope to come back. The tent spots are right on the river which is crystal clear and the temperature was perfect for swimming. Even though the private bathrooms were always clean, and the showers are really nice, I still used the river most mornings to rinse out my hair hahaha. The bamboo forest is beautiful, and the natural sounds coming from it at night is the perfect music to fall asleep to.It has a store with all the basic things you might need, and everyone who manages the facility knows the area well and is far beyond helpful. By the way, don’t forget to get a hillbilly flashlight, you might need it😂Every morning I looked forward to saying hi and checking in with what I was going to do that day. Cal and everyone else would often say something like “wait if you’re going to do that you should do these instead” and that’s how I found some of the coolest trails I went on. If you need something, they’ll get it to you or send you the right way.Don’t forget to do the white water rafting! Those guys love what they do, and it’s one of the biggest rafting rivers in America.
Sep 09, 2024 · Luke MillerWe absolutely loved it. We normally would not like staying close to the highway but we would do it again. I think it was because we had site G. We enjoyed the white water rattling next door. Only issue was restrooms!! They are very clean and loved them except your assigned to 2 and well some of the tent campers were too and liked to hang out there because of electricity and we felt so rushed to even get a shower..Over all, except the restroom issue we had a great experience. Loved the river, the pool. We're even considering renting one of those cabins.. The people at the office/ store absolutely amazing..I gave it a 5 even though the restrooms were a issue.. Not sure if tent people usually hog their assigned restrooms for electric purposes.. Such as cell charging and blowing up mattresses.. The mattress understandable but cell charging and keep knocking and knocking and every time we went we couldn't get into either one we were assigned ..Will definitely come back as I believe this was an isolated incident..
Jun 02, 2024 · Michelle KerrIt’s a nice campground! The kids loved the pool and the bouncy thing. The restrooms were very nice and clean! The hosts were very nice.We had requested a river site and wasn’t given one? As several remained open during the entire duration of our stay. Wondering how does one get a river site???Other than that. It’s a great place!
Jul 20, 2024 · kkaroni 1:10amOur new favorite campground! The location of this campground is great & has easy access to the river. The bathrooms, pool, cabins, & campsites are very clean & well maintained. The campground store has everything you need & everyone that works there was very nice & accommodating. We can’t wait to go back!
Jul 18, 2024 · VirginiaAMAZING! The location is EXCELLENT. Access to I40 within 2min drive. You stay right along Pigeon River and as a guest staying you receive a $14 discount on whitewater rafting at SMO next door. Our camp ground host was fantastic! The shower facilities were awesome and clean! During our stay it was uncrowded but that may vary depending on dates. Our last night (Tuesday) we were the only occupants in the park. Very peaceful and relaxing location.
