Little Cottonwood Group Campground Introduce
For local residents planning a group camping excursion and searching for "camping near me" in the Jackson, Wyoming area, the Little Cottonwood Group Campground, situated within the Bridger Teton National Forest, offers a dedicated space for larger parties. Based on the available reviews, this campground is exclusively for group reservations, providing a designated area for friends and families to camp together. While it offers certain amenities and a reportedly nice setting, prospective users should be aware of its reservation-only policy and limitations regarding RV accommodations and hookups.
The primary characteristic of Little Cottonwood Group Campground is its designation as a "reservation only group campsite." This is a crucial piece of information for local users planning a "camping near me" trip, as spontaneous visits are not an option. Reservations must be made in advance to secure a site at this campground. This policy ensures that larger groups have a guaranteed space to camp together, which can be particularly valuable during peak seasons or holiday weekends when other campgrounds might fill up quickly. However, it also means that careful planning and early booking are essential if you wish to utilize this group camping area.
One reviewer described the location as a "badass spot," indicating a positive overall impression of the campground's environment and suitability for group camping. This suggests that the natural setting and layout of Little Cottonwood Group Campground are conducive to a fun and enjoyable experience for larger parties. While specific details about the scenery or surrounding landscape are not provided, the enthusiastic endorsement implies a pleasant outdoor environment within the Bridger Teton National Forest.
In terms of amenities, the campground offers access to water for group use. This is a significant convenience for larger parties, providing a necessary resource for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. However, it's important to note that the campground does not offer electricity or a dump station. This lack of hookups is a key consideration for RV campers. The review explicitly states "no electricity or dump," meaning that RVs staying at Little Cottonwood Group Campground will need to be self-sufficient in terms of power and waste management.
Regarding accommodations for recreational vehicles, the information suggests limited space for trailers. The review mentions "room for maybe 3 small trailers," indicating that while it might be possible to bring a few smaller trailers, the campground is not primarily designed for a large number of or very large RVs. Groups planning to camp with multiple or large trailers should carefully consider these limitations and potentially explore alternative campgrounds that offer more suitable RV facilities. However, the same review notes that "there is lots of room for tents," highlighting the campground's suitability for tent-based group camping. This makes it an excellent option for large groups primarily composed of tent campers.
The review that noted the difficulty in obtaining reservations ("Very hard to get reservations") underscores the popularity and potentially limited availability of Little Cottonwood Group Campground. This reinforces the importance of planning well in advance and booking early, especially if you are looking to camp during peak times such as holiday weekends, as mentioned in one of the reviews ("over memorial weekend"). The difficulty in securing a reservation also suggests that the campground is a desirable option for group camping in the area, likely due to its dedicated group sites and potentially attractive location or amenities (beyond hookups).
The address provided, "US-89, Jackson, WY 83001, USA," indicates that the campground is located along Highway 89 near Jackson, Wyoming, placing it within reasonable proximity to the town and potentially offering relatively easy access. Being situated within the Bridger Teton National Forest suggests that campers can expect to be surrounded by natural beauty and have opportunities for outdoor activities typical of the area, such as hiking, wildlife viewing, and enjoying the forest environment. However, specific details about the immediate surroundings of the campground (e.g., proximity to rivers, lakes, trails) are not provided in the reviews.
The lack of specific information about other amenities, such as restrooms, fire pits, or picnic tables, in the provided reviews might suggest that these are either basic and standard for group campgrounds in the area or that the reviewers focused on the key aspects of group camping, reservations, and hookup availability. It would be prudent for potential users to seek additional information from official sources or by contacting the provided phone number to inquire about the full range of amenities available at Little Cottonwood Group Campground.
Given its designation as a group campground and the positive, albeit brief, feedback about the location ("badass spot," "nice group site"), it can be inferred that the campground is designed to accommodate the needs of larger parties camping together. This likely includes designated group camping areas that can handle multiple tents and the common spaces required for group activities. The focus on group camping also suggests that the atmosphere might be geared towards communal outdoor experiences rather than individual secluded camping.
In summary, Little Cottonwood Group Campground offers a dedicated "camping near me" option for larger groups looking to camp together in the Bridger Teton National Forest near Jackson, Wyoming. It operates on a reservation-only basis, so advance booking is essential. While it provides water, it lacks electricity and a dump station, and space for trailers is limited (suitable for maybe three small ones). However, it offers ample room for tent camping, making it ideal for groups primarily using tents. The location along US-89 provides relatively easy access. Due to the limited information on other amenities and the difficulty in getting reservations, local users planning a group camping trip should plan well in advance and potentially seek additional details about the campground's facilities and layout to ensure it meets their specific needs.
