Based on enthusiastic customer reviews, this small and quiet campground boasts a beautiful beachfront setting, perfect for those who appreciate a more rustic and natural camping experience over high-end glamping.
The environment of Lobster Buoy Campsite is clearly its standout feature. Situated directly on a beautiful beach on the mid-coast of Maine, it offers unparalleled access to the water. Campers can expect stunning views, including beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the water, and even the chance to witness unique celestial events like a blood moon. The beachfront location also makes it an ideal spot for kayaking, allowing guests to explore the coastline from a different perspective. The overall atmosphere is described as feeling remote yet safe, providing a peaceful escape from the everyday hustle.
The campground itself is noted as being very small and quiet, which can be a significant draw for those seeking a more intimate and tranquil camping experience. While one reviewer mentioned that the tent sites are small, they also highlighted that these sites offer the best views in the campground, suggesting a trade-off between space and scenery. For tent campers prioritizing a breathtaking view and direct beach access, the smaller sites might be well worth it.
In terms of services and facilities, Lobster Buoy Campsite embraces a more "old school" and rustic approach. The owners are described as "very nice and knowledgeable about where to get supplies," suggesting that while the campground might be rustic, the hosts are helpful and can provide local recommendations.
A significant feature highlighted in the reviews is the welcoming community at Lobster Buoy Campsite. One solo traveler who made a last-minute reservation due to a cancellation was immediately greeted by "wonderful and kind repeat campers" who became friends. This suggests a friendly and established community of campers, many of whom have been returning for years, creating a special and welcoming atmosphere. This sense of community can greatly enhance the camping experience, especially for solo travelers or those new to the area.
The process of booking also seems efficient and friendly. One reviewer mentioned that Jennie promptly answered their email inquiry about booking and addressed their questions. The ability to make a last-minute spontaneous reservation (due to a cancellation) indicates a degree of flexibility and responsiveness from the management.
While the campground itself offers a peaceful and somewhat remote feel, it is also conveniently located near other areas with "lots to do." This provides a balance between the tranquility of the campsite and the option to explore nearby attractions and amenities. South Thomaston is situated in the mid-coast region of Maine, known for its picturesque harbors, historic sites, and proximity to islands. Guests at Lobster Buoy Campsite could easily venture out to explore nearby towns, lighthouses, and other points of interest.

Lobster Buoy Campsite Reviews
A little hidden gem on the mid coast of Maine. If you’re looking for high end glamping, this isn’t for you. It’s a rustic and beautiful old school place. The campground is very small and quiet, set on a beautiful beach. The tent sites are very small, but have the best view in the campground. It’s a great place to kayak. We’ve seen the blood moon over the water two nights in a row, beautiful sun rises and sunsets, and even several rainbows. The bath house is a tad outdated but worked perfectly for my needs and I have no complaints. I was able to make a very last minute spontaneous solo reservation, due to a cancellation by someone else. Jennie answered my email inquiring about booking, and promptly answered a few questions I had. Immediately upon arriving, I was greeted by wonderful and kind repeat campers who ended up becoming friends. The folks camping here have been coming for many years and have made it a special yearly trip. It feels remote but also very safe. There is also lots to do in nearby areas as well. I can’t wait to return, but next time with my camper.
Aug 03, 2023 · DianaLee HirtWhat a great hidden gem! The owners are very nice and knowledgeable about where to get supplies.Found this place by sheer luck, can't complain about anything here. The view from the tent site was amazing. Where else can you get beach front access at a reasonable price.Recommend too all.
Jun 24, 2021 · Les BuchholzThis campsite is small, inexpensive, and has wonderful views and location. We managed to get a reservation last minute and the front desk lady was super nice and helpful. This campsite has everything you need, clean toilets, running water for washing, and gorgeous views of nature and the beach. We camped right on the beach and had a wonderful time. They weren’t selling firewood so we did have to drive a little bit to find someone that was selling. Also, if you are staying here, you have to try McLoons Lobster shack, it’s right down the road and it’s fantastic!
Jul 10, 2021 · Megan ShoemakerThis is an amazing campground. We are blessed they haven't sold out this gorgeous spot to developers 💕
