Loon Lake Campground & Function Lodge Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me"? Consider Loon Lake Campground & Function Lodge, situated at 5 Loon Lake Campground Rd in the town of Croydon, New Hampshire. This campground offers a lakeside setting and a function lodge, suggesting it caters to both recreational campers and those seeking a venue for events. To provide a detailed and objective introduction, we will analyze the available information, including recent customer reviews, to highlight the environment, services, features, and any potential considerations for local users.
Loon Lake Campground is located in Croydon, NH, an area known for its natural beauty, including lakes and surrounding woodlands. The campground's name itself indicates its proximity to Loon Lake, suggesting that the environment offers opportunities for lakeside activities and scenic views. One reviewer described it as a "lovely place" with a "beautiful lake," emphasizing the aesthetic appeal of the location. The peaceful and quiet atmosphere mentioned in the same review further suggests that the natural environment contributes to a relaxing camping experience, ideal for those looking to escape the noise of everyday life and connect with nature.
Historically, as noted by a long-term camper, Loon Lake Campground was once a "hidden gem" and a "very special place" under previous private ownership. However, the campground has since been purchased by "Modern America Campgrounds," a corporate entity. This change in ownership appears to have brought about significant alterations in management practices and the overall camper experience, as indicated by the detailed and critical review from the long-term camper.
The services and management style under the new ownership have become a point of concern for some campers. The critical review highlights several issues, including a lack of accommodation for seasonal campers whose sites were flooded, with management reportedly telling them to leave if dissatisfied. Complaints about numerous potholes within the campground were allegedly met with the same dismissive response. Furthermore, the reviewer claims that management has engaged in unprofessional communication, including referring to people as "stupid" in group emails and speaking negatively about other campers and their superiors to guests. This raises concerns about the overall customer service and communication practices at the campground.
The review also suggests inconsistencies in rule enforcement, with claims that while some campers are berated for violations, rules may not be enforced if it could negatively impact the campground's financial interests. Additionally, there are allegations of inconsistent charges among campers, with the local manager reportedly asserting the authority to act at their discretion when questioned about these discrepancies. These points indicate potential issues with fairness and transparency in the campground's operations.
In terms of infrastructure and features, the critical review mentions that the campground is "in need of repairs," with areas "falling apart" or not being addressed, such as an access gate that has reportedly been non-functional for over a year. This suggests that the physical condition of some aspects of the campground may be deteriorating. The electrical infrastructure is also noted as potentially inadequate, with most sites offering 30amp service, and even the 50amp sites reportedly unable to support two air conditioners simultaneously. This could be a significant limitation for RV campers with higher power demands, especially during warmer months.
The condition of Loon Lake itself is also brought into question, with a mention that "hopefully the dam to the lake gets fixed so that you won’t be able to walk across it like this year." This implies that the water level of the lake may have been unusually low, potentially impacting the recreational use and aesthetic appeal of the lake. This is a significant environmental factor for a campground centered around a lake.
Despite the serious concerns raised in the critical review, another camper described Loon Lake Campground as a "lovely place" that is "peaceful, quiet, fun," particularly for visiting family who enjoy staying there. This positive review also highlights "lots of opportunity for activities" and the option for a "quiet night around the fire," suggesting that the campground still offers recreational value. The lake is again described as "beautiful," and the campground is noted as being "kept up nicely," which contradicts some of the maintenance concerns raised in the other review. This discrepancy in feedback underscores the importance of considering multiple perspectives and potentially recent updates.
Given the conflicting reviews, it is challenging to provide definitive information about current promotional offers or services without further information. Local users interested in "camping near me" at Loon Lake Campground & Function Lodge should directly contact the campground using the provided phone numbers: (603) 863-8176 or +1 603-863-8176. Inquiring about current rates, availability, any ongoing promotions, and the status of the mentioned issues (e.g., repairs, lake conditions, management practices) is highly recommended. It would also be prudent to seek more recent reviews from various online platforms to gain a broader understanding of the current camper experience.
In conclusion, Loon Lake Campground & Function Lodge offers a lakeside setting in Croydon, NH, which has been appreciated for its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. However, recent changes in ownership and management appear to have led to significant concerns for some campers regarding customer service, communication, rule enforcement, facility maintenance, and infrastructure. While some visitors still report a positive experience, potential local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of the issues raised in the critical review and are strongly advised to conduct thorough due diligence by contacting the campground directly and seeking out the most current feedback from other campers before making a reservation.

Loon Lake Campground & Function Lodge Reviews
We started camping here when it was still owned by a person and not a corporation like it is now. It was a hidden gem and a very special place, but since it has been purchased by Modern America Campgrounds that is no longer the case. Campers whose seasonal sites were flooded the entire season were not given a break on their rates and were instead told if you don’t like it leave. Campers who complained about numerous pot holes were also told the same thing. Management has no issues referring to people as stupid, etc in group emails that all the campers receive. They will also talk negatively about other campers and their boss to you so I’m sure they will talk about you. They will berate those who don’t follow the rules, but then will also refuse to enforce them because it might impact their bottom line (as told to me by one of the local managers who used to be a used car salesman). The campground is in need of repairs with areas falling apart or simply not being addressed like the access gate that hasn’t worked in over a year. Some people will get charged for things that others don’t and again when the local manager is questioned about it you get told that he will do what he wants to. Most sites are 30amp and even all the 50amp sites won’t support two air conditioners running at the same time. Hopefully the dam to the lake gets fixed so that you won’t be able to walk across it like this year.
Oct 22, 2024 · Amy WhitakerLovely place. Visiting parents and they love it there. Peaceful. Quiet. Fun. Lots of opportunity for activities or to spend a quiet night around the fire. The lake is beautiful and campground is kept up nicely.
Jul 29, 2023 · Rosie LadeauOur first seasonal site and we're so happy we chose this place. Doesn't have all the glitz and glamour of other places but it has turned into our 2nd home and family. We love this place!!
Aug 07, 2024 · Christopher ConnollyAfter unsuccessful and overwhelming wedding and reception venue visitations, a local told us about this hidden gem it was a great experience. The owners are both so kind and down to earth. Our bus driver said they let her hang out with them and chat while she waited for the event. If you're looking for a low-stress venue, this is it.
Oct 04, 2022 · Kelly LehrOur daughter Cassandra/Jeff got married there Aug.29,2020. What a beautiful place, perfect for their "special day". Owner Scott and Sharon were completely amazing and made this day so memorable. They are so easy to talk to and help with anything you need. Would definitely go back and would recommend Loon Lake to all. Thanks again Scott & SharonKen, Jessie, Cassandra & Jeff
