Magical Woods-Munising, MI Introduce
If you are searching for "camping near me" in the Munising, Michigan area, Magical Woods-Munising, located at E6835 Crossover Rd, Munising, MI 49862, USA (phone: (240) 547-8238 or mobile: +1 240-547-8238), presents a camping option with highly divergent recent reviews. It is crucial for potential visitors to carefully consider these contrasting experiences before making a booking.
One reviewer described their experience as "absolutely amazing!" and praised the host, Anita, as "warm and welcoming," portraying her as a caring and protective figure who treats guests like family. This reviewer emphasized the quiet and peaceful nature of the location, recommending it for "true nature lovers" seeking a tranquil getaway. They noted its central location, providing convenient access to numerous waterfalls within an hour's drive. The presence of a pet chicken and a puppy named Rosco added to their positive experience, leading them to feel like "buddies with the whole fam!" This reviewer concluded that it truly is a "magical stay!" for those who appreciate quiet and nature.
However, other recent reviews paint a significantly different and concerning picture. One group reported feeling "extremely uncomfortable due to the hosts erratic behavior" to the extent that they "called the police to de-escalate the situation." They packed up to leave before the police arrived, but noted that the hosts followed up on the complaint. This indicates a potentially serious issue with the host's demeanor and interaction with guests.
Another reviewer explicitly stated, "There is no privacy at this location." They cautioned against being misled by the listing mentioning 44 acres, explaining that the campsite is "practically on top of the host as her home is right next to the site." This lack of privacy was compounded by the host and her boyfriend coming over "way too often," leading to feelings of discomfort. A particularly unsettling incident involved the host stating she was locking the gate so no one could "drive drunk," a rule that was allegedly not mentioned during the reservation process.
Adding to the negative experiences, one group recounted the host repeatedly mentioning that her neighbors were "rude" and trying to get her shut down due to their dislike of tourists. This was perceived as strange and excessive by the guests. Furthermore, this group reported that the host urged them to "party" and mentioned being "420 friendly," which was not the intention of their annual camping trip focused on catching up with friends. While initially friendly, the host's behavior and the "rules" reportedly changed frequently. For instance, quiet hours were initially stated as 10:30 pm but later changed to 11:30 pm for their group. Despite being apologetic and cooperative regarding noise, the group experienced escalating issues.
The situation culminated when, after returning from a day of activities, the host's boyfriend informed them that neighbors had complained about their music, even though it was still daylight and hours before the initially stated quiet time. Shortly after, the host herself came out, allegedly heavily intoxicated, swearing, and aggressively confronting the group about the music, using the neighbors as an apparent excuse. She reportedly contradicted her boyfriend's account and insisted on her own music preferences and rules, even though the group had been cooperative. When the group decided to leave due to her unstable behavior, the host allegedly became more aggressive, verbally abusing them and claiming they were the worst campers she had ever had to kick out. The guests reported recording one of her outbursts and taking photos as documentation. They strongly advised against camping at this location if any noise beyond a whisper or non-country music is expected, recommending staying at a "real campground" instead.
Considering these starkly contrasting reviews, the environment of Magical Woods-Munising, MI, is described by one as a "quiet peaceful get away spot" for "true nature lovers" in a "nice central location" near waterfalls. However, others experienced a lack of privacy due to the proximity of the host's home and frequent host interactions. The 44-acre listing appears to be misleading in terms of actual campsite privacy.
Information about services and features is limited and also contradictory. One reviewer mentioned a pet chicken and puppy, suggesting a more informal, home-like atmosphere. However, the negative reviews highlight erratic host behavior, frequently changing and uncommunicated rules (such as the gate locking), and conflicts arising from noise and music preferences. The positive review mentions the central location for accessing waterfalls as a feature of the area, not necessarily the campground itself. There is no mention of typical campground amenities like restrooms, showers, fire pits, or hookups in any of the reviews.
There is no promotional information available in the provided text. Potential local users searching for "camping near me" should be extremely cautious when considering Magical Woods-Munising, MI. While one reviewer had a positive and "magical" experience emphasizing quiet and nature, multiple other recent reviews detail significant issues with the host's behavior, lack of privacy, inconsistent rules, and conflicts with guests. The discrepancy in these experiences is substantial and raises serious concerns about the reliability and consistency of a stay at this location. It would be prudent to seek alternative campgrounds in the Munising area with more consistently positive and less concerning recent feedback to ensure a safe and enjoyable camping experience.

Magical Woods-Munising, MI Reviews
I'm not sure if the previous posts were from people who stayed at the same campsite as me, but my experience was absolutely amazing! Anita is such a warm and welcoming person. She is a momma bear who treats you like her own cub. All she asks is that you stay quiet and be respectful. If you are looking for a quiet peaceful get away spot, this place truly is magical. If you want to bring a giant boombox and party this is not going to be the spot for you. It is a peaceful magical place for true nature lovers. It's in a nice central location so you can drive to see a lot of waterfalls in less than an hour. She has a pet chicken and a cute 5 month old puppy named Rosco. I became buddies with the whole fam! :) It truly is a magical stay!
Aug 04, 2020 · Danielle Katsoulos*We called the police to de-escalate the situation after feeling extremely uncomfortable due to the hosts erratic behavior. We packed up quicker than they could arrive but they followed up and checked the complaint.*There is no privacy at this location. Don’t be fooled by the listing repeatedly mentioning 44 acres. You are practically on top of the host as her home is right next to the site. The host and her boyfriend came over way too often. We felt very uncomfortable, especially when she told us she was locking the gate so no one could "drive drunk." It was strange and definitely wasn’t mentioned anywhere when I made the reservation. From the start, the host kept saying that her neighbors were rude and were attempting to get her shut down because they didn’t like tourists. I thought it was kind of strange that she brought it up so much but I chalked it up to bad experiences between her and them. The host kept urging us to "party" and informing us that she's "420 friendly." We laughed it off and explained that the group plans an annual camping trip to catch up since moving around after college. Our group size was 13 but we didn't book the property to "party." She was initially friendly but each interaction with her was different from the last. The "rules" changed often. When the first part of the group arrived, the host said quiet hours began at 10:30pm but later told another that it was 11:30pm. We listened to country music on our Bluetooth speaker and the host came over to compliment us on our music choice. Later in the evening she came back and asked for the music to be lowered due to the sound traveling. She said quiet hours were 10:30pm but she extended them later for our group. We were all very apologetic and turned the music off, instead of down, right away. The next morning, we confirmed the time the music should be off that evening and she said 10:30pm.After a day of kayaking Lake Superior and exploring Munising we got back to the property around 7:30pm. Our group gathered around the fire while listening to music. The hosts boyfriend came out and said the neighbors called to complain. He went on to tell us he thought the neighbors were out of line and called them hypocrites for their loud gatherings recently. We agreed that the neighbors were complaining about nothing. However, even though it was still daylight and three hours before "quiet time," we turned the music down and resumed hanging out. Had I known of this neighbor drama, I wouldn’t have booked. 10 minutes later the host came running out, swearing and slurring her words, pointing her finger at us. It was apparent that she was heavily intoxicated. She said her boyfriend asked us to turn the music off, which isn’t what happened. She kept saying “this is a family place” which truly made no sense because even a family would have made noise. My sister told her that she just walked out to the road and didn’t hear anything at all and the neighbors were being crazy. The host lost it, she said SHE doesn’t like the music and SHE makes the rules and it’s HER property! She kept saying “that type of music,” even though there wasn’t any inappropriate lyrics or excessive swearing, it just wasn’t her preference because it wasn't all country like the night before. It became apparent that they used the neighbors as an excuse. When she realized we were packing up to leave she became very aggressive and wanted to pick a fight with everyone. She came back out multiple times to call us names and said we were the worst campers she ever had to kick out even though we already decided to leave after her unstable behavior. I recorded one of her rants and took photos of the property as proof just in case she tried to say that we left any trash or damage. I don’t suggest camping here if you want to talk any louder than a whisper or if you want to listen to any non country music. I was truly shocked about our terrible experience because I did do my research beforehand and found multiple positive reviews. Save yourself the hassle and stay at a real campground in the area!!
Jul 16, 2019 · KatWe have been camping on Anita's property for three summers. It has always been a magical experience! She has literally built her home from the ground up and it's incredible to see the progress she's made over the years. The view from the forest to the stars is unparalleled! She keeps a very tidy and clean camping area. If you're looking for 'Glamping' this is not for you! It is truly rustic, which was perfect for us. We love that each site has its own level of privacy! Anita and her crew (the dog, chicken and soon to be husband, are more than accommodating. It is more than clear why it's so important to Anita to respect the nature of the forest and her property. Thank you Anita for sharing your property so that others can enjoy it as you do! We will see you next summer!
Sep 06, 2020 · Tara ClarkStay away from this campsite if you don't plan to be in bed by 7 pm. We were verbally assaulted by what seemed to be a very inebriated owner for listening to music at 7:30 pm, when the night prior she told us quiet hours weren't until 11. Her boyfriend came out and kindly asked us to turn the music down, which we did without hesitation, even though it wasn't very loud to begin with. 2 minutes later the owner rushed out, drunk and very angry, telling us we need to turn the music off or pack up our stuff and go. We decided to pack up our things and go since she got incredibly aggressive with us and even told one of us to "shut the f*** up". She harassed us as we packed up our things and it seemed like she wanted to the situation to escalate even more. The whole thing was completely unnecessary and made us all very uncomfortable.
