McBride Springs Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the stunning vicinity of Mount Shasta, California? McBride Springs Campground offers a serene and beautiful, albeit basic, camping experience that might be exactly what you're looking for. Operating on a first-come, first-served system with only ten camping spots, it's a location that rewards early arrivals with tranquility and natural beauty. Let's delve into what McBride Springs Campground has to offer local users.
The environment of McBride Springs Campground is frequently described as "perfect, very basic, serene and beautiful." Situated on the slopes of Mount Shasta, it likely offers a forested setting with mountain views. One reviewer mentioned that it's "fairly remote" yet still convenient to stores, being approximately 5-6 miles down the mountain. This provides a balance between a secluded natural experience and accessibility to amenities. Another camper noted that from the campground last August, they "could see the Milky Way," indicating minimal light pollution and excellent stargazing opportunities. However, one minor environmental note is that "you can occasionally hear traffic at night from A10 below," although this doesn't seem to significantly detract from the overall peaceful atmosphere for most visitors.
In terms of services, McBride Springs Campground offers a more rustic camping experience with basic amenities. There are "Vault toilets," which are typical for more remote campgrounds. Notably, there are "no showers" and "no hot water," so campers should come prepared for this. A significant feature highlighted by a reviewer is the presence of "very cold rapid flowing fresh drinkable spring water from the mountains of Mother Earth like Gold!" This natural spring water source is a unique and highly valued amenity. The campground operates on an "honor system" for a "Small fee to camp," suggesting that campers are expected to pay responsibly, likely via a self-service payment method. The length of stay is limited to 7 nights.
A key feature of McBride Springs Campground is its natural spring, providing potable water directly from the mountain. The limited number of campsites (only 10) contributes to the serene and uncrowded atmosphere. The first-come, first-served system means no reservations are needed, appealing to those who prefer more spontaneous trips. For those interested in hiking, a reviewer recommends checking out "Mcbride Springs and the Mcbride Springs trail at the top of the campground which isn't shown on most forest maps for some reason." This "well maintained trail" reportedly "reaches far up the slope into the fir forest and patches of chaparral with great mountain vista's," offering an opportunity for exploration and scenic views directly from the campground.
The promotional appeal of McBride Springs Campground lies in its serene beauty, the unique access to fresh spring water, and its proximity to the natural wonders of Mount Shasta. For local users searching for "camping near me" who appreciate a quieter, more basic camping experience away from crowded campgrounds, McBride Springs could be ideal. The opportunity for stargazing, the potential for hiking on a less-known but well-maintained trail, and the convenience of being a short drive from stores while still feeling fairly remote are all attractive aspects. The affordability, implied by the "small fee" on the honor system, also adds to its appeal.
The positive reviews from campers underscore these promotional points. The description of it being "perfect, very basic, serene and beautiful" speaks volumes to those seeking a peaceful retreat in nature. The highlight of the drinkable spring water is a unique feature not commonly found at all campgrounds. The mention of being able to see the Milky Way is a significant draw for those interested in astronomy and pristine night skies. Finally, the recommendation to explore the McBride Springs trail adds an adventurous element right at the campground's doorstep.
For local users considering McBride Springs Campground for their next "camping near me" adventure, it's important to note the first-come, first-served policy and the limited number of sites. Arriving early, especially on weekends or during peak season, is advisable to secure a spot. Be prepared for basic amenities – vault toilets and no showers or hot water. However, the reward is a tranquil and beautiful setting with access to fresh spring water and a potentially rewarding hiking trail. The convenience of nearby stores (a short drive down the mountain) adds a practical benefit without compromising the feeling of being somewhat remote.
In conclusion, McBride Springs Campground near Mt Shasta offers a serene and beautiful camping experience with basic amenities, including vault toilets and access to a fresh, drinkable mountain spring. Its first-come, first-served system and limited number of sites (10) ensure a more tranquil atmosphere. Features include potential stargazing, and access to the well-maintained McBride Springs trail for hiking and mountain vistas. While there might be occasional traffic noise from below, the overall feedback emphasizes the beauty and peacefulness of this location, making it a worthwhile option for local users seeking a "camping near me" experience close to nature. Aug 07, 2024 · Mir HonigmanBeautiful campground! Only downside is you can occasionally hear traffic at night from A10 below. We were here last August and could see the Milkey Way!When visiting be sure to check out Mcbride Springs and the Mcbride Springs trail at the top of the campground which isn't shown on most forest maps for some reason. It's a well maintained trail that reaches far up the slope into the fir forest and patches of chaparral with great mountain vista's.
Sep 19, 2024 · SamuelNice campground on Mount Shasta, beautiful setting. Location is great, campground is very convenient to town and the mountain. We stayed the full 7 day limit and enjoyed it very much. Some sites weren't that level but others were. Pit toilets were fairly clean but could probably use a little more frequent attention.
Jun 12, 2023 · Dave RossWhat a beautiful place at the base of Mt Shasta. There is a tremendous amount of good energy here. A small creek from the springs runs through the campground. I lucked out and scored spot #7. I attached a picture of the view from my spot.It is first come first serve and there are only 14 sites so arrive early. It did fill up on a Tuesday night but at $10 it's to be expected.Pit toilets and pump drinking water.
Oct 26, 2017 · SebastianI agree with the other reviewer. Very reluctant to share about this Campground. Most campsites are well-spaced between pine trees. Very laid-back, quiet Campground!! It's for adults. I didn't hear any children when I was here. Thanks be to God!!! There's no water, so you have to bring your water. It Is first come, first serve. I need to give a special shout-out to the camp host, Carol & Don. They are the camp host with the most!
