Red Fir Flat Group Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the majestic surroundings of Mount Shasta, California? Consider Red Fir Flat Group Campground, a location that has garnered positive reviews for its beauty and accessibility to nearby natural attractions. This campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, making it an option for those who enjoy spontaneous camping trips. However, potential visitors should also be aware of some unique aspects highlighted by past campers.
The environment of Red Fir Flat Group Campground is described as "Beautiful," situated in the vicinity of Mount Shasta. Its location offers relatively easy access to other attractions, with one reviewer noting a "25 Min drive to Lake or Falls," suggesting proximity to scenic water features and potentially hiking opportunities around them. The name "Red Fir Flat" implies a setting with red fir trees, typical of higher elevations in this region, which often provides a shaded and forested camping experience. The overall impression is of a natural and picturesque location ideal for a family camping trip.
In terms of services, the information indicates that Red Fir Flat Group Campground provides basic amenities suitable for group camping. Each site mentioned by a reviewer had "2 Tables and a Fire Ring," which are standard provisions for cooking and gathering. It's important to note that there are "No showers," so campers should plan accordingly for their hygiene needs. The "Bathroom is a walk away," suggesting the presence of vault toilets or similar facilities that require a short walk from the campsites. The availability of these basic amenities supports a more rustic camping experience focused on enjoying the natural surroundings.
A key feature of Red Fir Flat Group Campground is its group designation, implying that it is designed to accommodate larger parties or families camping together. The first-come, first-served policy is another significant feature, meaning that reservations are not taken, and campsites are claimed upon arrival. One reviewer mentioned that "Phone Signal Was Great," which can be a notable feature for those who wish to stay connected or need communication for safety. The campground's location, requiring a drive through a Day Use area and past a gate (which reportedly just needs to be pushed open), adds a touch of seclusion while still being accessible.
Promotional aspects can be inferred from the positive experiences shared. The beauty of the location and the easy access to a lake and falls within a 25-minute drive are strong selling points for those looking for "camping near me" with opportunities for exploration and outdoor activities. The first-come, first-served nature might appeal to those who prefer flexibility in their travel plans. The good phone signal could also be seen as a convenience for many campers.
However, one review also brought up a peculiar issue regarding someone "trying to take your site by Posting Sign." This individual apparently attempted to mislead arriving campers into thinking the site was already taken. While the reviewer successfully navigated this situation by proceeding through the gate, it serves as a cautionary note for future visitors to be aware of such possibilities and to trust their own assessment of site availability. The reviewer's overall sentiment, "Otherwise it a Great place for the Family," suggests that this isolated incident did not overshadow the positive aspects of the campground.
Another concise review simply states, "My favorite place to camp in Mount Shasta. First come, first serve. Be respectful and responsible, leave no trace." This reinforces the positive sentiment about the location and highlights the importance of Leave No Trace principles for those camping here. The "first come, first serve" aspect is reiterated, confirming this policy.
For local users seeking "camping near me" near Mount Shasta, Red Fir Flat Group Campground offers a potentially beautiful setting with access to nearby attractions. The basic amenities of tables, fire rings, and a bathroom (a walk away) cater to a more traditional camping experience. The first-come, first-served policy requires arriving early to secure a site, especially during peak seasons. While the incident with the misleading sign is unusual, the overall positive feedback suggests that Red Fir Flat Group Campground can be a great option for families and groups looking to enjoy the natural beauty of the Mount Shasta area. Remember to be self-sufficient regarding showers and to be mindful of Leave No Trace principles to help preserve this favorite camping spot.

Sep 20, 2024 · Janet Forte (yogini)Stayed at the dispersed campground across the street. Campground is to close to the road and local mountain bikers use as a day use area. Had one group encroach on our site and had the nerve to cop an attitude when asked to move. Will not stay there again.
Jun 18, 2024 · Steven CummingsSays “Day use only” and … the day use parking lot says that “dispersed camping is available on east side of the highway” so, you’re good to free no-facilities camp on opposite side the highway. Only suitable for high top van or smaller though.
Aug 27, 2023 · S BerensonLove it! Peaceful, powerful, plenty of private spots and it's free. No toilets unless you cross the street to group site area😉 journey on!
