McCullough County Park Introduce
Are you looking for "camping near me" in the Lonsdale, Minnesota area? Consider McCullough County Park, located in Lonsdale, MN 55046, USA. This campground appears to be a popular spot with a welcoming atmosphere, particularly among local users. While specific contact information such as a phone number or website is not provided in the available data, its designation as a "County Park" suggests that booking and inquiries might be handled through the local county parks and recreation department. Local residents can likely find more information on the county's official website or by contacting their parks and recreation office directly.
Based on the feedback from visitors, McCullough County Park offers a generally positive atmosphere. One reviewer noted a friendly environment, stating, "Other than us and another camper everyone else was local so, lots of friendly people." This suggests a strong sense of community and a welcoming vibe for those visiting the area. For local users, this familiarity and neighborly atmosphere can contribute significantly to a pleasant camping experience.
The presence of a lake is highlighted as a "main attraction" of McCullough County Park. This implies that many of the activities and the overall appeal of the park are centered around the water. Campers can likely expect opportunities for lake-related activities such as fishing, boating (though specific details on boat access are not provided), and enjoying the lakeside scenery. The review mentioning a stay "by the water" and occasional walks onto the dock further supports the lake's central role in the park experience.
However, one reviewer pointed out that "it seems like all other options are not cared for as much" compared to the lake. This observation suggests that while the lake area might be well-maintained and a primary focus, other amenities or features within the park might receive less attention. Specifically, the reviewer mentioned being able to "hike (only few yards deep though) on some of the poorly maintained trails." This indicates the presence of hiking trails within the park, but their condition might be a concern for avid hikers. Local users who enjoy exploring on foot should be aware that the trails might not be extensive or well-maintained.
The facilities at McCullough County Park include bathrooms and showers. One review described them as "ok but do not expect too much." Another visitor who used the bathrooms found them to be "pretty clean," while the shower facilities were described as "clean" by a guest who did not personally use them. Overall, the impression is that the restroom and shower facilities are adequate but perhaps basic, and expectations should be managed accordingly. For local users accustomed to county park facilities, this might align with their expectations.
Despite some of the mentioned drawbacks, one reviewer concluded that McCullough County Park is an "overall, nice peaceful place to bring a family." This suggests that the positive aspects, such as the lake and the friendly atmosphere, outweigh the negatives for many visitors, particularly families looking for a local outdoor getaway. The peacefulness of the location is also a significant draw, offering a respite from more crowded or busy areas.
In contrast, another review from a couple visiting for a weekend stay provided a different perspective on the campground layout. They noted that "the campground is rather small and all we seen were the multiple campers in front of our view. Pretty much no privacy and packed in like sardines." This suggests that the campsites might be closely situated, offering limited privacy between camping groups. For local users who prioritize secluded and private camping experiences, McCullough County Park might not be the ideal choice. However, the reviewer also mentioned that "for a place to stay over a weekend, especially since we were not there as much, the campground sufficed for our Needs." This indicates that for short stays where the campsite is primarily a base for other activities, the lack of privacy might be less of an issue.
On a positive note, the couple who stayed for the wedding weekend mentioned that "other campers were quiet and kept their dogs leashed at all times." They also brought their two small dogs and reported that "everything was fine." This suggests that McCullough County Park is likely pet-friendly, which is a significant advantage for local users who enjoy camping with their furry companions. The quiet atmosphere reported by this reviewer also contradicts the "packed in like sardines" feeling to some extent, perhaps indicating that while campsites are close, noise levels are generally well-managed.
Given the available information, McCullough County Park offers a local camping option with a focus on its lake. The atmosphere is reported to be friendly, with many local campers creating a welcoming environment. While the hiking trails might be poorly maintained and the bathroom/shower facilities are basic, the park is considered a peaceful place, particularly suitable for families. However, potential visitors should be aware that the campsites might offer limited privacy due to their proximity. For local users seeking a weekend lakeside getaway with a relaxed atmosphere and are not overly concerned about extensive hiking or highly modern facilities, McCullough County Park could be a viable option. To obtain specific details about booking procedures, campsite availability, fees, and any park regulations, it is recommended to contact the Rice County Parks Department, as McCullough County Park is located within Rice County in Minnesota. Their official website or phone number will provide the most accurate and up-to-date information for local users planning a visit.

Sep 13, 2019 · stan kMy husband and I came to the area for a wedding and decided to stay at the campground. We stayed for the weekend and was by the water. Other campers were quiet and kept their dogs leashed at all times. We brought our two small dogs and everything was fine. I never used the shower facilities, but they were clean. The bathrooms were pretty clean and my husband was very impressed. We were by the lake and walked onto the dock occasionally. The campground is rather small and all we seen were the multiple campers in front of our view. Pretty much no privacy and packed in like sardines. We prefer more privacy and not the "sardine effect". However, for a place to stay over a weekend, especially since we were not there as much, the campground sufficed for our Needs.
Sep 10, 2023 · Tara ChiapuzioNice campground, have a perminent sight here. Host and family are really nice, and all 9 other perminents are really nice and treat you like family. They also have 20 other sights for the weekend campers, playground area for kids and a pravillion for any activities you would like to plan while you are there. Very well kept up shower and restroom areas for you to use while you are camping here.
May 11, 2024 · Randy HindersNot a bad location but nothing to do at all. Your not allowed to use the dock overnight anymore. You cant use the dumpster without the sheriff's department coming to your house. There's no shade or even a pop machine within 9 miles. No beach, no boat landing, they raised the rent almost 50% per night this year. Me and or my family-friends will never be staying here ever again. P.s. This place is now garbage, not even close to worth what they're charging now.
Sep 30, 2021 · monty melchertReally enjoyed going to this park. Now they have turned most of it into seasonal camping. Very hard to get a reservation. Why would you let people camp all season in a county park!? Very nice showers, host are very friendly. No beach. If it didn't allow seasonal campers I would give it more stars.
