The environment of Melton Hill Dam Campground appears to be a significant draw for visitors seeking "camping near me." One reviewer noted "plenty of water" and "lots of beautiful trees," suggesting a scenic and potentially shaded camping experience. The campground's name implies proximity to Melton Hill Dam and the associated lake, which could offer opportunities for waterfront activities or picturesque views. While the initial navigation to the campground might require attention due to a lack of signage after exiting the interstate, the overall location is described as "convenient." The presence of numerous trees, while contributing to the beauty and shade, might affect satellite-based services like Starlink, as mentioned by one guest who experienced a usable but weak signal. The friendly and helpful nature of the campground hosts, who even assisted a guest with a large RV in finding a suitable site, adds to the welcoming atmosphere of the environment. The considerate nature of other campers also contributes to a pleasant and respectful camping community.
When considering "camping near me," the services and features provided by a campground are essential for a comfortable and hassle-free experience. Melton Hill Dam Campground accommodates both RV and tent campers, although the experiences can differ. For RV campers, the availability of sites suitable for large rigs (up to a 40-foot fifth wheel and dually) is a significant service, especially given that the campground is described as older and "not necessarily meant for big rigs." The helpfulness of the campground hosts in assisting with site selection and navigation is a notable service that enhances the guest experience. While specific hookups are not detailed, the mention of RV sites implies the availability of at least electrical and water hookups. However, one review notes the absence of sewer hookups, which is a crucial consideration for RVers planning longer stays. For tent campers, one reported issue was that the tent spots were located down a "bit of a steep hill from the parking lot," which could pose a challenge when transporting gear. The distance of the bathrooms from the tent camping spots was also mentioned as an inconvenience. Despite these drawbacks for tent campers, the availability of water is noted as plentiful. The campground's affordability ("You cant beat the price") is a significant service that makes it an attractive "camping near me" option for budget-conscious travelers. The requirement to check in before entering the campground ensures a level of organization and security.
The features of Melton Hill Dam Campground cater to a range of camping preferences. The presence of "lots of beautiful trees" provides shade and a natural ambiance to the campsites. The proximity to Melton Hill Dam and the potential for lake access could be a significant feature for those interested in fishing, boating, or simply enjoying waterfront scenery. The availability of both RV and tent camping sites allows for diverse camping styles. The friendly and helpful campground hosts are a standout feature, providing personalized assistance to guests. The affordability of the campground makes it an accessible option for many seeking "camping near me." However, potential features that are lacking include strong or reliable WiFi (due to the trees affecting satellite signals), cable hookups, and sewer hookups for RVs. For tent campers, the steepness of the path to tent sites and the distance to the bathrooms might be considered less desirable features. It is important for prospective campers to weigh these features and limitations based on their individual needs and preferences when considering Melton Hill Dam Campground for their "camping near me" experience.

The positive aspects include the peaceful environment with beautiful trees and potential water access, the friendliness and helpfulness of the campground hosts, the considerate fellow campers, and the affordability of the sites. The negative aspects, or areas for consideration, include the potentially challenging navigation upon arrival due to lack of signage, the absence of sewer hookups for RVs, the weak Starlink signal due to tree cover, the steep and inconvenient tent sites, and the distance of the bathrooms from the tent camping area. For RV campers, the ability to accommodate large rigs with the hosts' assistance is a plus, but the lack of sewer might be a limitation for longer stays. Tent campers should be prepared for a bit of a trek to their sites and to the restrooms. Overall, Melton Hill Dam Campground appears to be a nice and convenient option, especially for those prioritizing a scenic and affordable "camping near me" experience and are aware of its limitations regarding certain amenities and site layouts.

Melton Hill Dam Campground Reviews
We reserved this location a couple weeks before traveling. No problems. The GPS took us straight to the campground but just know once you get off the interstate there arent any signs for your destination. There were times when we were wondering if the GPS was correct. You are required to check in before entering the campground. We were met by the campground hosts on a golf cart who were super friendly and helpful. The site we had chosen didnt fit our 40 foot fifth wheel and dually. They found us a site that worked and showed us the best way to get into the site. We were super grateful for their help. It was a day we were running behind. The campground is very nice and convenient. You cant beat the price. The only reason I gave a 4 instead of a 5 is that this is an older campground and not necessarily meant for big rigs. There are also lots of trees that makes your Starlink signal usable but weak.
Apr 23, 2025 · Cindy BeamThis was a nice camping spot. Plenty of water, lots of beautiful trees. The people were very friendly and the other campers were very considerate. The only issues I had was the tent spots were all down a bit of a steep hill from the parking lot. Which would of been ok if you could of driving down to it dropped the stuff off and went and parked in the lot. Also the bathrooms were pretty far from the camping spots. I've been to dispersed camping where they had clean Porta-potties.
Sep 09, 2024 · Gerard “Uncle Gerry” RossoSuper nice near W Knoxville, TN! Beautiful campground operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)! Easy on and off access to I-40 and I-75. On water, pretty views! What more could you ask for? We stayed one night passing through, but will come back for a longer stay!
Oct 26, 2023 · Tammy CThis a wonderful campground. Our site was a huge level concrete pad. The surroundings are so peaceful and quiet. We don't fish, but if you're a fisherman you would love this campground.
Jun 07, 2024 · Patty LystadIt was a great place for swimming and walking. Tent sites are small, good for one tent with others being off kilter. Trailer /rv spots are very narrow along with the road to maneuver into areas. The tent site area needs own bathroom site, as having to share with the day use area that one gets desteoyed. It only has one toilet, a urinal, and single shower. It isn't a bad distance from tent site depending on where your spot is, however if ya really gotta go, best luck on distance and having the toilet available. There was a incident where an individual had fishing gear stolen from boat that also sways my review. There is a NO pet area near swim area however, lacked on enforcement. The small camp store also has random hours. Overall nice area just needs to be updated a bit.
