Windrock Gap Campground Introduce
When searching for "camping near me" in the Oliver Springs, Tennessee area, Windrock Gap Campground, located at 300 Hoskins Gap Rd, Oliver Springs, TN 37840, USA, presents a mixed bag of experiences according to recent customer reviews. While praised for its cleanliness, reasonable pricing, and quiet atmosphere, potential visitors should also be aware of some significant drawbacks concerning RV hookups, cell phone service, accessibility, and pet policies. This detailed overview aims to provide a balanced perspective to help local users make an informed decision about this campground.
The environment at Windrock Gap Campground is described as "nice" and "mostly clean" by one reviewer, who otherwise had several concerns. Another reviewer, particularly new to extended outdoor stays, found the environment impressive, highlighting the "mountain breeze and crisp" air. The campground is also noted for being "very quiet," which could be a significant draw for those seeking a peaceful and tranquil retreat away from the noise of more bustling campgrounds. The presence of "plenty of space for picnics and barbecue" suggests that the campground offers areas for outdoor dining and socializing, allowing guests to enjoy the natural surroundings in a comfortable setting. The fact that both RV sites and cabins are available indicates a variety of accommodation options to suit different preferences and needs.
In terms of services, Windrock Gap Campground offers water and electric hookups at the RV sites, but crucially, it does **not** provide full hookups with sewer connections. This discrepancy with potential advertising of full hookups is a major point of contention for one reviewer, who explicitly warns others about this limitation and the necessity of using the dump station upon departure. For RV travelers planning longer stays or those who prefer the convenience of on-site sewer connections, this lack of full hookups is a significant service limitation. On a more positive note, the bathhouse facilities receive exceptional praise, being described as "the cleanest I’ve ever seen," even compared to high-end restaurants, and "comfortable enough to use the bathroom normally and take a shower." This enclosed and safe bathhouse with hot showers is a significant amenity that contributes positively to the overall camping experience. The availability of both RV sites and cabin rentals also broadens the range of accommodation services offered at the campground.
The features of Windrock Gap Campground are a mix of positives and negatives. The cleanliness of the campground and particularly the bathhouse is a standout positive feature, contributing to a comfortable and hygienic stay. The reasonable pricing, mentioned as a pro by one reviewer, makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers. The quiet atmosphere ensures a peaceful and relaxing environment. However, there are several significant features that potential visitors should carefully consider. The **lack of full hookups** for RV sites, despite potential advertising to the contrary, is a major drawback for many RVers. The **zero Verizon cell service** within the campground, requiring a 7-minute drive to get a signal, can be a significant inconvenience and even a safety concern for those needing to stay connected. The **challenging access roads**, including one-lane bridges and a narrow one-lane road with significant pavement drop-offs, pose a considerable risk and can be "nerve wracking," especially for those towing campers or larger vehicles. Finally, the issue of **loose dogs**, including those reportedly belonging to owners/managers, and the presence of dog poop around campsites, contradicts the expectation of leashed pets as per campground rules and detracts from the cleanliness and overall enjoyment of the sites.
Currently, there is no promotional information provided in the customer reviews for Windrock Gap Campground. To inquire about any potential discounts, seasonal offers, or package deals, it would be best to contact the campground directly using the provided phone number. Given the mixed feedback, particularly the discrepancies regarding amenities and the challenges with accessibility and pet policies, it would be wise to directly address these concerns with the management before booking a stay. While the reasonable pricing is mentioned as a positive, the potential inconveniences and safety concerns might outweigh the cost savings for some travelers. It is recommended to get up-to-date information on hookup availability, cell service, road conditions, and pet policies directly from the campground to avoid any surprises upon arrival.
In conclusion, Windrock Gap Campground in Oliver Springs, TN, offers a potentially pleasant "camping near me" experience with its clean facilities, reasonable prices, and quiet setting. The exceptionally clean bathhouse is a significant asset. However, prospective visitors must be fully aware of the significant drawbacks, including the lack of full RV hookups, the absence of Verizon cell service on-site, the challenging and potentially hazardous access roads, and the reported issue of loose dogs and pet waste. While one first-time outdoor camper had an overwhelmingly positive experience, another reviewer, seemingly more experienced with RV camping, had several serious concerns that led to a low rating and a strong warning to others. Therefore, local users should carefully weigh these pros and cons based on their individual needs and priorities before choosing Windrock Gap Campground for their next camping trip. Direct communication with the campground management to clarify current conditions and policies is highly recommended.

Windrock Gap Campground Reviews
Nice little campground. However, we must give it a 2. Here are the pros and cons:PROS:1. Clean 2. Reasonably priced 3. Nice people 4. Very quiet.CONS:1. NO FULL HOOK UPS! Water & Electric at sites only. You have to use the dump station on your way out. They advertise full hook ups. They do NOT have full hook ups at any of the spots there.2. Verizon Cell Service has ZERO signal there. My cell was on SOS the entire week. We had to drive 7 minutes down the road to get a signal.3. 1 lane bridges and the 1 lane road that leads into the campground were nerve wracking to pull a camper on. We initially thought the road was a one way! In some spots the pavement is built up at least 2' high! So there is no option to pull over onto the grass to allow another person to pass without the possibility of causing damage to your vehicle and/or rig.4. A handful of different dogs were allowed to run loose the entire week we were there. From what we could tell, at least 2 of them belonged to the owners/managers. We kept finding dog poop around our site. Not cool.We hate to give this campground a 2 because the campground was mostly clean and the people were nice. But we must be honest to warn others who will expect a full hook-up, a cell phone signal, a safe road to enter, and pets to be leashed as the rules there demand.
Sep 26, 2024 · Me MeI was nervous cause it was my first time really being outdoors and nature for a long period of time. When I tell you, I had nothing to worry about I was so impressed by everything this campground had to offer. They had lit the cleanest I’ve ever seen bathhouse cleaner than like the best restaurants that was actually comfortable enough to use the bathroom normally and take a shower. it was enclosed a nice safe location every morning and evening mountain breeze and crisp. Plenty of space for picnics and barbecue. I stayed in RV and some of my family stayed in the cabin. Both were extremely cool and comfortable during the extreme summer heat. I cannot praise this location. I highly recommend anyone who wants to take a Rzr outside and ride around the campground, or just experiencing family time out in nature. 11/10 I would recommend again.
Jul 11, 2024 · Jovon LeblancWe have camped at the Gap many times, and it’s always a great experience. We have rented the bunk houses (this week) as well as the camp spots a few times and we enjoyed both. Bunk houses were clean, and came with a heater and AC. Great location, laid back atmosphere and we love getting to see the dog.
Nov 21, 2024 · Alex MurdockVery friendly people all around. Very clean facilities. Some campers weren't cleaning up after themselves as far as animal waste, but not a huge deal. There were A LOT of ATVs when we were there and they all respected the quiet time. Very accommodating owners and nice little mountain view. Worth staying again. Thanks y'all!
Aug 25, 2024 · CooperAmazing host, comfortable cabins at a great price. Cleaner bathrooms I've ever seen. 10/10 would stay again and have many times before!
