This family-owned campground, now in its 41st year, offers a blend of lakeside and wooded camping environments, with a strong emphasis on its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. The connection to multiple lakes, particularly Saddlebag Lake, makes it a haven for fishing enthusiasts and those looking to immerse themselves in a serene outdoor setting.
The environment at Melville's 7 Lakes Family Campground is characterized by its natural lakeside setting and partially wooded upper level. This dual landscape offers campers a choice between being close to the water and enjoying the shade and seclusion of the woods. The campground was thoughtfully developed alongside the shoreline of Saddlebag Lake, providing easy access to the water and its recreational opportunities. The presence of five other interconnected bodies of water further enhances the appeal for those who enjoy exploring and engaging with aquatic environments. While one review notes a "weird setup with half the campground away from the lake," this also implies that a portion of the campground benefits from direct lake access, which is a significant draw for many visitors.
Fishing is highlighted as the "best amenity" of Melville's 7 Lakes Family Campground, and this focus remains a core feature. Being located on the shoreline of Saddlebag Lake, with connections to five other lakes, provides ample opportunities for anglers of all levels. The variety of interconnected waters likely supports a diverse fish population, promising a rewarding fishing experience. For local users specifically searching for "camping near me" with excellent fishing prospects, Melville's 7 Lakes Family Campground is a compelling destination.
The campground is described as "peaceful, spacious, and relaxing," underscoring the atmosphere that the owners strive to maintain. This emphasis on tranquility makes it an ideal retreat for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature. The spaciousness likely refers to the layout of the campsites, potentially offering more room and privacy compared to more densely packed campgrounds. This contributes to the overall relaxing experience, allowing campers to unwind and enjoy their surroundings without feeling crowded.
Melville's 7 Lakes Family Campground benefits from the presence of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which "preserves nature with strict rules and laws protecting all wildlife and nature." This commitment to conservation ensures that the natural environment remains pristine and allows for the "country critters to co-exist." This aspect will appeal to nature lovers who appreciate observing local wildlife and immersing themselves in an authentic outdoor setting. The focus on preserving nature suggests that the campground is mindful of its environmental impact and strives to maintain a harmonious relationship with the surrounding ecosystem.
The owners themselves describe Melville's 7 Lakes Family Campground as "the perfect destination for anyone looking for down to earth and back to nature camping." This self-description aligns with the feedback emphasizing peace, spaciousness, and the presence of wildlife. It suggests a camping experience that prioritizes simplicity, natural beauty, and a connection to the outdoors, rather than an overabundance of modern amenities or commercialized attractions. For local users seeking an authentic and unpretentious "camping near me" option, this campground appears to fit the bill.
The mention of a "large amount of seasonal campers" in one review could be interpreted in a couple of ways. On one hand, it might suggest a strong sense of community among long-term visitors. On the other hand, it could imply that the availability of prime campsites for short-term visitors might be limited. However, the reviewer still noted that the "beach area is nice," indicating that even with seasonal campers, there are still appealing features for all guests to enjoy. The "gorgeous lake" mentioned by the same reviewer further reinforces the natural beauty and central attraction of the campground.

Sep 30, 2024 · Susan BalkemaWeird setup with half the campground away from the lake, and half close. Large amount of seasonal campers. Beach area is nice, but small. Gorgeous lake.
Jul 14, 2017 · Roger BaconWe have made it a yearly tradition as a whole extended family to camp in the most secluded city rustic sites we can get and the kids are in absolute bliss. The staff is kind and helpful, their is a nice beach, a playground and activities for the family. It's a nice, quiet spot that we hope to visit for years to come. *added love points: my Dad taught my 7 year old how to ride a bike here over the summer
Nov 07, 2019 · Ashley LytleLove camping here!! We start our summer off here every year!!! Many memories here and many more to come!!
Aug 29, 2019 · Pam NixHorrible experience here. Office manager Taresa is a nightmare to deal with. We came with our 2 babies very excited to spend the summer here and she was very unwelcoming, rude and awful to us. Out of all the campgrounds in this area I would definitely recommend choosing another place to stay. Not family oriented at all. Beach is dirty and kids playground is completely unsafe falling apart.
