Merrill RV Campground Introduce
Are you a local RV owner in search of a "camping near me" option in Iowa? Consider Merrill RV Campground, conveniently located at 23 5th St in Merrill, IA 51038, USA. While it may be a smaller campground with a more basic offering, it presents a well-maintained and reasonably priced option for RVers in the area. Based on recent customer reviews, let's delve into the environment, services, and features of Merrill RV Campground to help you decide if it's the right fit for your local camping needs.
The Environment of Merrill RV Campground: Groomed and Varied Spaces:
Reviewers consistently describe Merrill RV Campground as "very well groomed," indicating that the grounds are maintained with care. The campground features two distinct levels. The upper level is noted for accommodating smaller campers and benefits from shade, making it a potentially cooler option during warmer months. In contrast, the lower level currently offers no shade, although some trees have been planted, suggesting that shade may become more available in the future as these trees mature. This difference in environment provides some choice depending on the size of your RV and your preference for shade or open sky.
Limited On-Site Amenities: Focusing on the Essentials:
It's important to note that Merrill RV Campground is described as having "no actual amenities like bath house, picnic tables, or firepits." This means that campers will need to be self-sufficient in terms of these facilities. RVs equipped with their own restrooms, showers, and cooking facilities will be best suited for this campground. The absence of picnic tables and fire pits might be a consideration for those who enjoy outdoor dining or campfires, although portable options could be used in accordance with any campground regulations.
Services and Practical Considerations for Your Stay:
Despite the limited amenities, Merrill RV Campground does offer essential services for RV travelers:
- Full Hookups: A significant advantage highlighted by a reviewer is the availability of "nice full hookups" for the reasonable price of $20 (though it's worth noting that this price might be subject to change). Full hookups typically include connections for water, electricity, and sewer, providing convenience for RVers.
- Longer Stays Allowed: For those seeking a more extended stay, Merrill RV Campground permits "longer stays for an extra fee monthly." This could be an attractive option for individuals working in the area or those looking for a longer-term RV parking solution.
- First Come, First Serve Basis: The campground operates on a "first come, first serve" basis. This means that reservations are not typically accepted, and you will need to arrive and secure a spot upon availability. It's advisable to have a backup plan, especially during peak camping seasons.
- Payment Procedure: A somewhat unusual aspect mentioned in the reviews is the payment process. The "pay site board is not up to date," and campers need to go to the city hall to pay. This is an important piece of information for prospective visitors to be aware of upon arrival. Contacting the phone number provided ((712) 938-2514 or +1 712-938-2514) beforehand might be beneficial to confirm the current payment procedures and any other essential information.
Features and Potential for Improvement:
While currently basic, Merrill RV Campground does possess some appealing features and areas for potential enhancement:
- Well-Groomed Grounds: The consistent mention of the well-maintained environment suggests a commitment to providing a clean and tidy space for campers.
- Reasonable Rates (for now): The current pricing is considered "reasonable" and a "good deal" by reviewers, especially for full hookups. This affordability makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious RVers.
- Potential for Shade on the Lower Level: The planting of trees on the lower level indicates a forward-thinking approach to improving the comfort of those sites in the future.
- Full Hookup Availability: Having full hookups at a reasonable price is a significant draw for RV travelers.
Reviewers have also pointed out areas for improvement, specifically mentioning the need for "picnic tables and fire rings" and suggesting that the campground "could be much more accommodating" with these additions. The sentiment is that while currently decent, the campground could offer a more complete experience with the inclusion of these standard camping amenities. There is also a concern that if such amenities were added, the rates might increase, potentially making it less of a "good deal."

Merrill RV Campground Reviews
Smaller campground with no actual amenities like bath house, picnic tables,or firepits. Very well groomed with the upper level for smaller campers and shade while the lower level has no shade, but some trees have been planted. The pay site board is not up to date, and you need to go to the city hall to pay. It is a first come, first serve basis, and they do allow longer stays for an extra fee monthly. Reasonable rates for now, but we believe IF other amenities were added that rates would go up. Then it would not be a good deal. Overall, a decent campground.
