Minnie Pond Campground Introduce
For local residents in the White Cloud, Michigan area seeking a "camping near me" experience, Minnie Pond Campground, located at 9570 N Alger Ave, White Cloud, MI 49349, USA, presents a mixed bag of features and considerations based on recent customer reviews. While praised for its quiet atmosphere and proximity to hiking opportunities, some concerns have been raised regarding its suitability for children and the quality of the fishing experience in Minnie Pond itself.
Environment: Quiet Natural Setting with Hiking Opportunities
One of the consistently highlighted aspects of Minnie Pond Campground is its quiet environment. Multiple reviewers mention the peaceful atmosphere, making it an attractive option for local users seeking a tranquil escape into nature. The campground is described as a place where one can enjoy a more serene camping experience, away from the potential noise of more bustling campgrounds. This quiet setting is particularly appealing to those who prioritize relaxation and immersion in nature during their "camping near me" getaway.
The campground is also noted for its hiking opportunities. One reviewer explicitly states that they go there regularly to hike and camp, indicating the presence of trails in or around the campground that are suitable for walking and exploring the natural surroundings. This makes Minnie Pond Campground a potential draw for local users who enjoy hiking as part of their camping experience.
The campsites themselves are described as being of a "pretty good size," suggesting that they offer adequate space for setting up tents and enjoying the area around the campsite. This is an important factor for comfort and convenience during a camping trip.
It's worth noting the campground's location relative to local amenities. According to one review, there are "no stores around for about 5 miles or more." This implies that campers should come prepared with all necessary supplies, as immediate access to stores for forgotten items or additional needs might be limited. However, the same reviewer mentions a place "not far from the camp ground that sells fire wood," which is a convenient resource for those planning to have campfires. The prices for firewood are described as "fair," and the quality as "good."
The campground is also located directly across the street from Lincoln Cemetery, at 3113 W 3 Mile Rd, White Cloud, MI 49349. While this is a factual piece of information, its impact on the camping experience might vary depending on individual perspectives.
Services and Amenities: Basic Facilities Available
The available reviews mention the presence of "bathrooms" at Minnie Pond Campground, which is a basic but essential amenity for campers. However, the reviews do not provide details about the condition, number, or type of bathroom facilities (e.g., flush toilets, vault toilets, shower availability). Local users who prioritize specific bathroom amenities should seek further information before booking.
As mentioned earlier, firewood is available for purchase nearby. The lack of mention of other services like water hookups, electricity at campsites, or on-site stores suggests that Minnie Pond Campground might offer a more rustic camping experience with basic facilities. Campers should be prepared to be self-sufficient regarding water, power, and supplies.
One reviewer noted that there was "no stores around for about 5 miles or more," emphasizing the need to bring all necessary provisions. The availability of firewood nearby is a helpful service for those planning campfires.
Features: Hiking, Fishing (with Caveats), and Swimming (Spillway)
The primary features of Minnie Pond Campground appear to be its access to hiking trails and Minnie Pond itself. The quiet atmosphere also stands out as a key characteristic.
Regarding fishing, one reviewer had a somewhat negative experience. They described the fishing as "okay" but expressed disappointment with the quality and quantity of fish, noting "a lot of small bass" and only seeing bluegill on the front lake. They also mentioned that the lake was "choked out with weeds" and "hard to fish even in a kayak." This suggests that while Minnie Pond might offer fishing opportunities, local users who are serious anglers might want to temper their expectations or seek more detailed information about the current fishing conditions.
Interestingly, the reviewer mentioned being unable to kayak to the "back lake" and having to drive around and unload, indicating the presence of more than one body of water associated with the campground, though access between them via water might be restricted. The distinction between the "front lake" (where bluegill were observed) and the "back lake" (accessible by driving) suggests different fishing environments might exist.
A positive feature highlighted by the same reviewer is the "spill way," which was described as "sweet and clean" and a "great spot to swim." This indicates that Minnie Pond Campground offers a designated and appealing area for swimming, which could be a significant draw for local users, especially during warmer months.
Child-Friendliness: A Point of Concern
One significant concern raised in the reviews is the campground's suitability for children. A reviewer explicitly stated, "Not kid friendly at the sites lots of broken glass." This is a serious safety concern for families with young children and suggests that the campsites might not be well-maintained in terms of cleanliness and safety for kids. Local users planning to camp with children should take this feedback into serious consideration and potentially inquire about the condition of the campsites before booking.
Promotional Information and Recommendations for Local Users:
For local residents in the White Cloud area seeking a quiet "camping near me" experience with opportunities for hiking, Minnie Pond Campground offers a potentially tranquil retreat. The campsites are of a decent size, and basic bathroom facilities are available. The proximity to hiking trails makes it a good option for those who enjoy exploring nature on foot. Additionally, the "sweet and clean" spillway provides a welcome spot for swimming.
However, local users should be aware of some potential drawbacks. The nearest stores are several miles away, requiring campers to be well-prepared with supplies. The fishing in Minnie Pond might not meet the expectations of serious anglers due to weeds and the size and quantity of fish reported. Most importantly, the mention of "lots of broken glass" at the campsites raises significant safety concerns for children.
Before booking Minnie Pond Campground for your "camping near me" getaway, especially if you are planning to camp with children or are keen on fishing, it is highly recommended to seek further information. This could involve trying to find contact details for the campground management (perhaps through local parks and recreation resources for Newaygo County, where White Cloud is located) and directly inquiring about the condition of the campsites, particularly regarding safety for children, as well as the current fishing conditions in Minnie Pond.
If a quiet setting for hiking and camping is your priority, and you are prepared to be self-sufficient with supplies, Minnie Pond Campground might be a suitable option. The availability of a swimming spot in the spillway is an added bonus. However, the reported issues with broken glass at campsites and the quality of fishing are important factors that local users should weigh carefully before making a decision for their next "camping near me" adventure.

Jul 30, 2021 · EvilBunnieNot kid friendly at the sites lots of broken glass, the fish was okay could not kayak to the back lake had to drive around and unload. Lot of small bass. Only say bluegill on the front lake. This is a top water lake (frog) fishing. The spill way was sweet and clean great spot to swim. I'm only giving it two stars because I was hoping for better quality fish and didn't expect it to be so choked out with weeds. Hard lake to fish even in a kayak.
Jul 26, 2020 · Ryan RodgersA life time of memories. Stinks u have to pay now but still the cheapest overnight prices around. Good place for family hiking to picnics to swimming around the dam that leads to a good stream for catching a lot of different fish or just playing with the crawfish. Peaceful place to just go and relax.
Jul 14, 2018 · Eric PritzlI liked that the site where private but man was the site we got trashed fire pit full of plastic and trash. There was broken glass everywhere we spent most of the first day cleaning the site from the last people. Cool water hole but not much to do besides that. Can’t beat the 10 bucks a night though. Glade to say that since I’ve left my review it’s gotten a lot better!! Just need people brag care.. almost every tree has Hammock ropes rapped around them!! Update the sites have gotten better but still all the trash if you walk in the woods around your site is just ridiculous!! Love how cheap it is and how remote. Lots of locals also around deer season act like it’s (there area) we been hunting here for 20 years!! Don’t care if it’s state land there the reason why we always go back!!
Apr 01, 2025 · B ZLeaches and lots of bugs! Water needs to be cleaned up there are trees and debris that’s fallen into the stream going away from the pond/dam side and it’s blocking water and looks like it’s taking over the beautiful flow of the water! Fish can’t get through and it just would be nice if it got cleared out and people could enjoy the beautiful scenery again
